(From an unknown source but this resided in my Codicies Venifica, Codex Aethyre, Liba Larmen) Credo I believe that there is one unified divine wholeness in the universe. This divinity is larger than the universe, and contains all creation within it. In its enormity it is unknowable, and none may judge it. In order that mankind may have some way of focusing their love and awe for this supernal power, it has made itself known to man in the forms of all of the different gods worshiped, not the least the God and Goddess figures of the witches. For the divinity, while whole, is polarized, as all nature is polarized. For there are undeniably extremes of light and dark, heat and cold, male and female, depth and altitude, anima and animus, pain and pleasure, life and death, weakness and strength, yin and yang. All these opposites are a part of the whole, and the whole is perfect. There would not be perfection without polarity. I believe the unified divine wholeness of godhead is easiest to know and understand as the Goddess and God of the Wiccans. The God of the witches incorporates all masculine archetypes: the sky‑father as wise old man, the fire‑warrior, the fighter, the old Horned God as lord of the hunt and or death, the Green Man as procreator and ensurer of fertility, man as phallus and semen, man as guardian and protector, man as wisdom and knowledge. Women can worship Him, but only men can have a full and complete understanding of Him. The Goddess of the witches incorporates all feminine archetypes: the earth‑mother as benefactress and restrictor, the triple goddess of the moon as nymph, mother and hag, queen of light and darkness, servant maid, predatory woman and nurturing woman, innocent child and wise old crone. Men can worship Her, but only women can have a full and complete understanding of Her. I believe that the four ancient elements (Earth, Fire, Water and Air) are aspects of the witches' gods: fire and air of the God and earth and water of the Goddess. Each of them are further polarized in these elements, as young (fire‑warrior and water‑maid) and old (sky‑father and earth‑mother). I believe that all life is born out of the union of the Gods, and that all life is reunited once more with them at death in a dimension called by tradition the Summerland which is graced by fruiting trees, particularly the sacred apple of the witches, holding in its core the five‑pointed star. I believe that the Judaeo‑Christian tradition decided on the apple as the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, referred to in their sacred texts just as fruit, only when they realized its special ties with the Ancient Ones. I believe that all souls return to the Summerland for a period of refreshment and reflection on their lives and to absorb any important lessons learnt before putting on flesh once more to walk the earth to continue the Good Work. I believe that once a soul has come to the Old Religion in one life, it will seek out and come to the Old Religion in all future lives, as the spiral of life goes ever up and all things beneficial are carried on through the generations. I believe the Craft is necessary to wholism of life. I believe that all the good I do returns to me threefold (once for the intention, once for the action and once for the result), and any deliberate harm I do also returns threefold (once for the intention, once for the action and once for the result). I believe that the evil you do will rebound on you, now or in the future, and the good you do will be rewarded now or in the future. I believe that Intention is the sole measure of good or evil. I believe all creatures, no matter how lowly, have the right to live life as they please, so long as they harm no one. I too have this right, so long as I harm no one. I have no right to kill directly or indirectly except for food and the necessities of life, and I should sanctify any taking of life by apologizing for the death and giving thanks for the benefits that will accrue to me. I believe that all creatures, however lowly, have an existence both in the World of Form and the World of Spirit, and as such are exactly equal to me in all things. I believe the Earth, as our mother, as Gaeia, is a living entity and a facet of godhead, and deserves worship, love and nurturing even as she receives from some of us rape, violence and pillage. I believe that at Esbat, the ritual celebration of the full moon, by proper preparation the priestess of the witch cult can `draw down the moon' when the Goddess will enter her body and impart knowledge of natural and unnatural things. I believe in the power of working witches to augment and strengthen the forces of the Old Ones, just as a concert pianist is strengthened to produce a better performance by a sympathetic audience, and a football team by a home crowd.
