It is parinoid for someone else to carry because they live in a high crime area. It's common sense when you do it.

I am reminded of Admial Rickover, the Creator of the US Nuclear Navy said in congressional testiomony concerning then President Reagan plan to deploy new nuclear missiles.
"We have the ability to destory the earth 30 times over, how many more times do we need to destory the earth before we feel safe!"

Welcome to Dodge City

If you have a valid reason, then it isn't paranoia.

If you have read the Flordia law, the person with gun decides

I don't know what permission they needed, none of those trucks belonged to me.

I attended high schools in Philadelphia, PA and Manhattan, New York City in the 1960's. A student caught with a gun on campus then ended up in a reform school or prison (I remember some that did) and a teacher caught with a gun would have been fired immediately. We took the subway to school or walked - no students drove their trucks.

In the 70's when I went to HS, it was quite common to see guns in rear window gunracks on campus during deer season. Mine was kept in its case in the trunk. Yes, the teachers, etc knew about it because half the time, I was huting on my homeroom teachers tract of land. I told him that if I got one, he would get some steaks.

That's what this whole argument is about, yes, but paranoia has a medical definition rather than a legal one, and sod all to do with Florida law. It can't ever be justified because it's irrational. That's why it's defined as a delusional disorder or a symptom of schizophrenia.

BamaD -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/12/2012 11:15:34 AM)

80% or more of the crime in my town takes place within 5 blocks of my house. Carrying isn't paranoia it is faceing reality.

You need to move dude. My whole town had exactly zero murders last year. There have been years when the whole county (about 65,000 people) had zero.

BamaD -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/12/2012 11:25:57 AM)

When being attacked you don't have time to consult a lawyer you either resist or turn the streets over to the thugs. You claim to belive in peoples right to defend themselves, and their right to carry, but bythe time you finish gualifying those rights they don't have them. Like the D C claim that people could have long guns to drfend their homes, but by the time theyfollowed all of the "common sense" "safety" requirements the bad guys had to give you ten-fifteen minutes advance warning or you would never have time to unlock it get the ammo and load it quickly enough to do you any good.

Yes you have the right to defend yourself against hoodies, skittles, ice tea, cell phones and bic lighters they are all so very dangerous, they having meeting right now to plot against you.[:D]

I am sorry you did not understand my question.
Yes indeed go on.
So far from the list you posted you have only listed two things.
One of which you are wrong about.
The thing you are calling a sub-machine gun w/silencer does not exist. The sgw carr ar is an ar 15 look alike and according to the factory are not full auto. It fires a projectal that exceeds 1500 fps(the speed of sound at sea level).Only those projectals that travel slower than the speed of sound can be silenced...yes you can muffle the muzzel blast but you cannot muffle the shockwave of the supersonic projectal.

quote:

You are joking right?

Nope

quote:

By the way yes there are such things as sub-machine guns with silencers...I remember having one, a Swedish K submachine gun 9mm with silencer very effective..but I had to give it back to the Army.

Please go back and read what I said. I said the carr ar 15 was not a submachine gun.
A 9 mm has a muzzle velocity significantly below 1500fps so it may be easily silenced

then there is a sawed off shotgun, illegal I should know I arrested a guy with one, the charge stuck.

If they had a permit (as another poster has mentioned)it would not be illegal....I am going with no permit so now we have two from the list which were actually illegal.

Yes there are conversion kits that can be purchased to make a semi auto to a full auto, very illegal.

Those were not on the list.

You know...I hate to say it but I am thinking of buying some firearms, my permit and CCW are still valid. Some of you are making me scared, I think that all I need to justify myself under this "Stand You Ground Law"

I see nothing adverse to anyone entitled to own a firearm from possessing as many as they choose. Would you hazard a guess as to the value of a ruger blackhawk 44. mag with a 6 digit serial number?
Or:
Perhaps an automag with all three barrels?
Or:
Perhaps a matched pair of mod 57 s&w with consecutive serial numbers.

I do believe that the roi on such an investment would pay better than any investment I have heard of.

BamaD -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/12/2012 5:23:31 PM)

I would but I can't afford to.

Where I live we have the highest murder per capita in the state of california.
Why:
Because I live in a very remote section of the mojave desert, there are fewer than a thousand people in this town that is just a wide spot in the road.
Everyone with a spare body to get rid of comes here and dumps it.

I didn't like the answer because you didn't answer it. I was talking original scholastic records and you're talking IQs and prison school records. Once here *in* prison...the record's kinda moot.

And catagorically "NO" I do not believe a person should run around carrying a firearm without a valid reason, and being paranoid is not a valid reason.

Good thing you aren't in charge. Not everyone wants to be a pre-packaged victim like you.

Criminals are running around with weapons now. That ain't paranoia, it's cold hard fact.

I remember that well, many of those pickup trucks wereon my high schoolparking lot back in the 60's.

Where did you go to highschool? I know of no jurisdiction in the u.s. (in the 60's)where high schoolers were allowed to bring firearms on campus without prior appropriate notice and the corresponding authority.

I'm not tellin where I went to school in the 70's but it was common for many of us to bring shotguns in our vehicles so when school let out we could get out in the field faster and have more time to hunt before dark. Though they weren't visible on gun racks, otherwise they would likely get stolen.

Does that mean that I was right? That your high school did not allow firearms to be brought on campus without the proper protocol?

Ya know, I couldn't tell you for sure if it was illegal or against policy though I don't think there were any federal laws concerning having a shotgun in your car on campus at that time. We did it without thinking much about it. I'm sure if it was against the rules and we got caught there wouldn't have been all the hysteria over it like we would see now.

I also might add the other high school in town had a target range for .22's in the basement for the NRA youth marksmanship program. As of about 10 years ago I heard the range and the program is off campus due to the present day guns in school politics situation.

You know what gets me, so many see nothing wrong with bring guns to school, yet the same deem Martin a thug because he had a burgury tool, a screw driver, it was found during a school search.  In my old high school, alot students has screws drivers, they were the shop stundents.

You've been taking some cheap shots lately. There were also 12 pieces of women's jewelry that he couldn't account for, claiming some unidentified somebody "gave" them to him. Add to that, he had been suspended previously for writing obscene graffitti on a door at his high school, which doesn't present him as a big fan of allowing property rights to interfere with his purposes.

Thug is over-reaching; but so is the sweet-harmless-child theme.

The school is in positon of the jewelary, no one has claimed it nor has there been any reports of it being stolen.  He allegedly wrote F.TW. the only evidence of that was a school security guard, who  used that claim to search him the following day.  That is when the jewelary and screw driver where found.  Not surprisinly Martin has never been charge with a crime, and if you think that this is justification..well we may as well close all the schools and start building juvenile halls.  Just remember Zimmerman has 3 arrest one resulting in attending anger management. Also then there is Zimmerman ex girl friend.  Zimmerman has the violent history not Martin.  I never said Martin was an Angel, but he is not a criminal. I don't take cheap shots...I take expensive shots[:D]

Oh and this is something, a bit off of topic but I like it, hope the teacher gets their job back

Zimmerman never having been convicted of a crime is also not a criminal.

Not until after the trial, at least.
