I never realized that could cause knots and head aches. Is there any way around those? I have a HUGE hair pulling fetish. Recently, when it's done to the extent I want, it's causing knots where the hair is pulled. Of course, I could down play a bit, but who wants to do that? If you're gunna enjoy your kink, why not to the extent you want? Thanks in advance, for any ideas.

try braiding or pony tailing your hair first. that might help. I don't think there is much you can do about the head acke thing.

Greetings,

Try applying some leave-in conditioner to your hair before a session (make sure to give it enough time to dry though or your Dom/me won't be able to keep a hold! ). As for the headaches, i'd imagine that this is much like headaches associated with pulling your hair back tightly in a braid, bun, what have you. Given some time to adjust your body should become used to this and the headaches should cease or at least decrease in intensity. Until then perhaps take some pain reliever before a session.

Well wishes and keep your head up!

I agree with Destinysskeins about the leave-in conditioner.
As far as the headaches go try giving yourself a scalp massage, that helps my headaches created by hair pulling sometimes.

What about knots? I don't mean, my hair getting knotted up. I mean, literal knots on your head, like you bumped your head pretty hard. Pump knots, that's it...lol. I've been getting those, after that.

How bad are the headaches. Are we talking jerking or slow steady hard pulling? If you're having more than a slight headache, like from a ponytail and are doing the hair jerking, you need to dial it down. Sharp jerks to the head can cause minor concussions.

Well, it's a little of both. More, slow and steady though. What concerned me a bit was the knots that seem to come up from it. I have never experienced that before. Though, I have never played that hard in that area either. You maybe right though, I may need to tone it down a bit. Perhaps, I'm just a bit excited... Finding out new things about yourself, tends to do that for a while.

i am a cosmetologist and although there may be ways around this, i'll point out what the potential risks are regarding damages to the hair itself.

A leave in conditioner is not the greatest solution. It may serve to lubricate the hair but only if the hair remains wet. Wet hair would only be desirable if the intended goal is to make it more difficult to grasp and hold onto the hair. The pulling or hard tugging of the hair which causes the knots (temporary or permanaent damage to skin tissue associated by an injury to the epidermis layer of the skin and possibly the dermis, as well as subcutaneous layer, aka swelling and/or an interuption in circulation due to trama) can cause actual damage to the hair itself. Wet hair is much more fragile. It is holds a higher level of elasticity and although it stretches more than half it's normal length while wet, & it can break very easily. Hair damage is the lesser worry in that another risk to concider is that the hair could be pulled out. Hair being pulled out can cause damage to the hair follicle (the 'pore' from which the hair grows out of, the follicle provides nurishment to the hair through blood supply and if damaged can die which means no hair will grow from that 'pore' again). Damaged hair follicles caused by trama in great number can cause alopecia areata (small bald spots which can be either temporary or permanent).

Braiding of the hair (or even sweeping all of the hair into a pony tail or grasping much of the hair in a fist) still has it's risks but will help somewhat in avoiding pulling the hairs from the follicle simply because the force of pulling will be distributed more evenly among those hairs contained in the braid. HOWEVER... Braided hair, pony tails and the like may still cause trama to the layers of the skin and/or follicles and produce the knots if the hair is yanked too hard.

Swelling, knots and headache are the body's way of tossing out red flags/warnings to indicate damages done and should not be ignored. The best solution is to back off a bit, slow down, and take care in not yanking or tugging the hair so hard. There really is no other solution.

Myra,
I know absolutely zero about hair pulling. When my hair gets pulled I go into the most severe headache of my life. I can literally OD on painkillers and it will do nothing for me.
However, while searching around today. I noticed Mistress Steel has a new article on it.

Where it won't answer your specific questions. It will give you a bit more insight.

Thank you for posting this link. I found it to be an interesting and informative article. I'd not have found it on my own.

One good way to "dial down" the intensity without sacrificing the full force is to mentally "meet the Dom halfway" during the hair pulling.

First, yes, braiding or tying the hair back is good. A braid is best because it weaves the hair around and around and prevents any one patch or strand from getting the worst of the tension during a pull. Frequently shifting ther direction of the pull is another technique. Up, down, left, right, diagonal, etc, gently have your Top shift the direction (WITHOUT yanking the head!) Also, while your Top pulls firmly, but not violently, you concentrate on the sensations. Instead of eagerly anticipating that hard violent yank, think of how it feels *right now* even gently... Go into the sensations and you may well find that "less is more" which will prevent damage and lumps later on.

Take a good anti-inflammatory (Tylenol or whatever) about 45 minutes before a scene WITH a small meal, a muffin, etc, (not on an empty stomach, NSAIDS can tear you up if you don't take them with food) and that should ease the headaches.

Try to divert some of the action into verbal play. Your Top could use words like "I will yank you baldheaded, Bitch!" and "I have you by the hair, you little slut! What if I pulled it *all* out?!" or what have you, using words to keep you focused on what's happening. Gentler action, fiercer words and your own mental focus on the sensations should make a gentler scene hotter.

Whatever you do, do NOT allow your head to be forciply yanked, jerked, your neck hyperextended, etc as these can cause concussions (rebound injuries to the brain) and small cervical fractures. Shaken-baby syndrome can affect adults too.

Greetings,

One other thing that came to my mind...

Personally, i'd say that i have a hair pulling and a choking fetish (not going to go into the safety issues on this one as there have been threads devoted to it already). Master recently introduced a new trick into our sessions that incorporate both of these into one (*yay!* for me ). Not sure if you're into the same scene at all but thought i'd share this with ya nonetheless. If you're hair is long enough it's possible to wrap it around the neck so that when it's pulled upon it constricts around your neck. Like i said, for me, it fulfills both fetishes quite nicely and we've both had quite a bit of fun with it.

Well wishes
