The thing is that while your thyroid levels might fall into the "normal range" - what is considered a normal range differs from state to state and country to country (in the UK it's just out of whack), and also your personal "normal range" level might be slightly different than the "normal range" for average people, it's a bloody hormone but affects a lot of other things...

Right you are, gals, I began Peri-Menopause at 31. I'm 56 and have been in full-blown, ass-kicking Menopause for about 15 years now. No cakewalk, that's for sure.

15 years....oh my...say it isn't so....that's just a really long time to be dealing with all that stuff...you actually seem pretty calm, notwithstanding...[:o]

FR

Panic or anxiety?

Also some of the symptoms caused by psych meds don't ease off. I was on one med for over two years and the profuse sweating never stopped ugh it was awful.

Aynne88 -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/25/2012 8:04:09 PM)

Hey little wonder, I am 45, and my periods are still like clockwork and no thyroid issues either but about 2 years ago I started with the night sweats and it's horrible. I don't know the family history of menopause because my mother had a hysterectomy at 28..I have recently gone from a vegetarian to a vegan and they have almost stopped. I also feel much better and have more energy and for the first time in years sleep better. It's worth a try.

littlewonder -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/25/2012 8:09:35 PM)

Well I don't eat red meat and very rarely chicken but I love my seafood. I rarely eat cheese and I never ever eat or drink anything with milk because I'm lactose intolerant and don't eat eggs all that often either.

My energy level I know is just due to the fact that I don't sleep at night except for right now because cipro was kicking my ass. Thankfully I took the last one this morning. Unfortunately that means I'm back to my insomnia. UGH.

Today was another horrible day with me being soaked. I'm really soooo very tired of this. I told Master I'm not sure how much longer I can stand this. It's just ruining my entire summer. I think I'm just gonna stay inside all summer with my A/C on high lol. (now if she can just keep Master from turning it down because he's freezing. HRMPH)

LafayetteLady -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 8:55:40 AM)

There are several herbal remedies on the market that might help.  I keep seeing a new one called Icool.  It is herbal but doesn't contain Black Cohash like most.

While you continue to have my sympathies, be glad you are only part way south and not somewhere that is really hot.  I can't stand sweating all the time, and my clothes and sheets constantly getting soaked.  Without a washer and dryer, it is a super pain in the ass.

Keep with the popsicles, drink lots of really cold water and talk to your doctor.

littlewonder -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 9:46:33 AM)

it's only 1pm here and I've already had to take two showers today. I'll probably end up taking at least two more because of the sweat. This is fucking ridiculous. Hopefully my landlord doesn't start complaining about the water use lol.

kalikshama -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 11:38:48 AM)

I asked my GYN if there are tests that can be done for peri-menopause and she said no. This is not true and she should have known better or she lied, so either way, she's lost my trust.

I recommend you insist your doctor test your hormone levels and if she refuses, get another doctor. I'm with the VA so I have no choice unless I want to pay out of pocket, which is an option I'm reserving.

I'm sure I'm in peri-menopause because of my age (45), my mother's age when she hit menopause, and other symptoms, which do not include hot flashes, perhaps due to the bio-identical progesterone I've been taking for several years. Progesterone is the hormone most likely to be deficient during PM. (If you get pre-menstrual migraines, progesterone can also help with this.)

I suggest you get Dr Christiane Northrup's "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" or "The Wisdom of Menopause" from your library and see if her suggestions, which range from completely conventional to very holistic, resonate with you.

Here's something on hot flashes: http://www.drnorthrup.com/womenshealth/healthcenter/topic_details.php?topic_id=130

Yes, FTP, it is a very long time, and I had no idea it would be like this, as I did not know what my bio-Mom's experiences (or other female relatives) were like, so it's been a bit of a surprise for me (understatement!). It is my understanding most women do not have it quite this long or hard. Like many others, I tried the herbal, acpunctural, dietary, homeopathic and bio-identical hormone route without success, and it got to the point and degree I was not able to sleep or function for years, which made my life a living hell. Unfortunately, the only place I've found refuge is in the HRT with estrogen & medroxyprogesterone. It is a risk, I know, but one I must take until something more effective comes along. It's either that, or I'd be up on the Texas Clock Tower picking off a lot of innocent people!

LadyConstanze -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 2:52:51 PM)

You know, I recently talked to a woman who had the same problem, she's way past menopause (68) and says whenever she is in a hot climate, she gets all the menopause symptoms again, including hot flashes... Apparently not uncommon and her doctor recommended a cooler climate.

Well, she wasn't actually wrong. The problem is that hormone levels fluctuate constantly during peri-menopause so you could test them one day and have them be normal, but test another day and have totally different results. Most insurance won't pay for multiple testings a day that goes on for weeks.

littlewonder -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 8:47:42 PM)

Well I'm not moving so that's not a solution lol.

I did buy some of that I-Cool tonight that LafayetteLady suggested. I'll start using it tomorrow and see if it helps.

kalikshama, thank you for the link. I will take a look at it tonight.

I went out tonight and bought a few more sundresses. I'm thinking I'm gonna need a lot of them this summer lol.

kitkat105 -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 11:17:27 PM)

As someone who is new to buying dresses.. you can't have too many. And shopping is always a nice distraction. [;)]

littlewonder -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/26/2012 11:35:53 PM)

I think most of my clothes are dresses lol. I love to shop, especially for clothes but I'm trying to not buy anymore right now until after my lipo next week and the swelling goes down in about 3 months or so.

But I saw two little sundresses today that I couldn't pass up and they only cost me a few bucks. I love Memorial Day Sales. [:D]

LadyConstanze -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/27/2012 12:45:48 AM)

LOL, I know what you mean, I ended up with an innocent looking white dress, other half cracked up when I sent him the picture and asked if I'm getting ready for 1st communion... But hey, sales and all that...

Thaz -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/27/2012 1:43:53 AM)

Something to consider>>

I had problems with Night Sweats that sometimes kicked in during the day....and also breathing issues. This went on for years. The Doctor I saw diagnosed asthma and various treatments. Eventually I ended up in hospital and it all turned out to be some non typical lung infection. Once cured my night sweats and breathing issues went away.

Non-typical and persistant infections can be hard to diagnose and can cause many of the symptoms...

kalikshama -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/27/2012 6:25:51 AM)

Meanwhile, inspired by the lube thread, there's always frozen suppositories [:D]

littlewonder -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/27/2012 3:51:51 PM)

I don't have any breathing problems and I just finished a round of cipro for a uti so even if I did have some kind of infection I think that would have cleared it. Started taking the Icool today but I guess maybe I need to take it for a week or so before it kicks in. Hasn't started working yet.

I swear this place gives him ammo!

mummyman321 -> RE: Drenched in Sweat (5/28/2012 5:20:34 AM)

Well you could always where a rubber catsuit and enjoy the sweat. If you are going to sweat you might as well get some enjoyment out of it [8D]
