I was going to mention looking at his nails as well. While in school we learned about so many nail bacteria and diseases. It really was a gross chapter, but, there may be something that you can't see. The diet explanation is a very good one. Keep a watch on what he eats through the day for a week. See if there is anything there. Try google and see if there is any remedies they recommend. If all else fails, doctor time. And good luck, if the man in that house is anything like the one here, he has to be dead to go, then his ghost would say no. Lol.

Chronic foot stench can be an indicator of an internal yeast infection.......... *L* I know sounds funny but it's really true... if you have a yeast infection of the digestive system it comes out in the foot stench.... Yes, a Dr should be consulted our bodies tell us when things are amiss and we need to listen to it or pay the price. If it is said yeast infection there is a lazer treatment the will bring the yeast down to a healthy population and said Master will stop ruining his shoes and said sub won't have to put mentholatum under their nose......... Otherwise, try an old asian remedy when he's fixen to take a shower have him piss on his feet in said shower.... Honest *L* my cousin is married to a vietnamies gal and she made him do it.... takes care of athalets foot as well

As has been said before, half a cup of white vinigar in a foot bath will help with the immediate odor. However, a trip to the Dr and dietician is also in order, the vinigar will only help with the symptom, but not the cause which is usually internal with foot odor.

GL.

Bad smells are a HARD HARD HARD fucking limit for me so I sympethize with you.

Assuming he doesn't have athlete's foot or nail fungus, I'd suggest starting with an antiperspirant.

And yes, three pairs of shoes so each has two days to dry before reusing. Get them all new insoles as the ones in them are already contaminated.

So far things tried include:

New shoes
Lots of changes of cotton socks
Barefoot often
Regular washing of feet

I just want to know if theres anything else that could be tried short of going to the Dr with what would sound like a silly issue.

It is not a silly issue.

It would help a lot if the cause was known. But let's assume that it is bacteria.

First of all: stop wearing shoes. Wear sandals instead.

Secondly: you want to replace the extant bacteria by other bacteria. Killing the extant bacteria will not help for long, as there are nearly always a couple of survivors - for example on the bed sheets.

Go walk in the sea every day. The bacteria might not like that.
Go walk in dirt and do not wash. (Mind that the skin has no breaks for otherwise infection and death may result.) The strange bacteria and mud may be to much for the extant bacteria. (And one might acquire a fungus.)

Let milk go sour and bathe the feet in the sour milk.

The above suggestions are all hypothetical.

Using Google there are lots of hits on stinking feet and herbs. One of those hits is this one.

Sprinkle a bit of Alum in the shoes. That works sometimes.

Wow thank you all!

So far it has eased a little, we got a couple more pairs of shoes and new insoles so he can alternate, he's also stopped wearing shoes and socks around the house and only wears them to go out so his feet are not in them all day.

I have been tweaking our diet a little, and several people have mentioned alum so going to see if i can get hold of that.

I have to admit getting him to do anything about it has been hard as he has hardly any sense of smell (lucky him when it comes to those) but i think the fact I started physically leaving the room when it got bad helped, because he realises how bad it is.

He wont go to the Dr unless he has to, yep he's one of those types but next time he does go I will plead with him to mention it.

I found a special foot deodorant in Asda (Walmart) so going to give that a try.

Just read this:

sodium aluminum sulfate, is an ingredient in commercially produced baking powder. (Have you never noticed the faint metallic taste in baking powder? It comes from the alum.)

So maybe baking powder sprinkled in his shoes would help

This one time at band camp....

No, no, no! - that's not it.

This one time this friend of mine was camping on my couch at my house for about a week. Well one afternoon I came home from work, and was hit by this ungodly smell. My friend was sleeping on my couch... And i started rushing around my house thinking there was a decomposing corpse stashed in one of my closets or something. I went over to where my friend was napping to start screaming at him that there was something dead & rotting in my home - and what he had to do with it.

As I approached, I noticed the stench getting stronger and stronger. And was like, "What the fuck?!?!"
It was his motherfucking FEET!!!

I gave him the number to the homeless shelter and threw him out.

For some reason, teenage males tend to have pretty awful feet (prob hormonal thing). When I was about 13-14, my dad came home once in a bit of a foul mood. We had a puppy that was in the process of being house broken and my dad was ranting that "The Goddam dog has shit in the house again". My mom finally convinced him that "No, it's your son's feet".

Teens get athlete's foot from communal gym showers. That's why.

Deodorant 'crystals' are made up largely of potassium alum. Try rubbing the crystal on freshly washed, wet feet paying extra attention to the toes. Or make a spray from powdered alum or the crushed crystal which will be easy to spray between toes.

One thing I used to have exotic dancers do with their long leather boots to help dry them out and keep them from getting stinky was:
Find an old sock, fill it with fresh kitty litter and stuff it inside when they are not using them.

Btw, when most people clean their feet, they are merely standing in a shower or sitting in a bath tub and getting them wet. Toe jam loves to get wet. I would suggest that after he showers or bathes to give him a foot bath.

Yay on the other suggestions, including odor eater type inserts for shoes and rotating those suckers out. You might look into something they sell to dry out boots. It's like a twin towered, light flow blow dryer.

Bath the feet in pure bleach in a basin and scrub in between all the toes. Bleach will kill everything. This is the initial treatment. After this 1 part bleach and one part water and scrub daily. This truly works.

I strongly recommend not using bleach. It is poisonous and should not come in prolonged contact with the skin, or be inhaled. Considering the things you said you've tried, I don't think this can be solved with the usual methods of deodorant, minimizing sweating, etc. There is most likely some actual problem that a doctor is needed to identify and fix. Beyond that your best bets are to continue with frequent showers/baths, letting shoes air out properly, using talcum powder or something similar inside the shoes to minimize sweating. Alum is also a good idea, since it kills bacteria, thus eliminating smells. I would suggest ammonium alum, as it's the stronger. Most likely any alum deodorants are already made from it, but on the off chance they aren't, that's what you should be looking for. But those things can only mask the symptoms. A visit to the doctor is really the best way to proceed.

Actually if you soak them in kerosene or deisel fuel every night for about a half hour or so, that will cure the problem.

Good ole baking soda works wonders on shoes, coat the inside of the shoe with baking soda at night, and shake it out in the morning. Might even be worth trying a foot wash in baking soda, that stuff is magical.

Clothespins are for nipples and laundry.
Try a white vinegar soak every night. Diluted of course.
