Karmastic -> Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 3:41:16 PM)

We've had so much discussion about fake profiles, thought it would be nice to comment on fake dating sites.

I subscribed "for free" to sexsearch.com, but didn't upload a picture or write a description (just my demographics).

I didn't browse or view any profiles, or send anything to anyone.

I've received 11 emails from women within about 3 weeks, most of them in their 20s or 30s (I'm 48). I can't respond without "upgrading". Some of them "want to meet me", and most all are gorgeous or at least decent looking.

The site admins must setup their own fake profiles to entice people to subscribe. One nice touch - they set up the software to actually show that the women who emailed me looked at my profile. This is how I usually spot fakes here, by noticing they didn't view my profile, yet show interest. Yes, I know you can see a lot with a hover, but what woman would do that?

So, is the site a fake, or is a 48 year old single man with no description or picture in Los Angeles that popular?

Thoughts on fake sites and the shit they pull?

Lockit -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 3:47:39 PM)

Why do you think it is a fake site and not simply that people have learned that men looking for sex will do just about anything? I go to another free site... not for sex and anything too blatant isn't allowed. I got gold membership for reporting the scammers, but they are there. They are everywhere.

Karmastic -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 3:52:58 PM)

i think it's a fake site because only the site stands to gain from me subscribing. follow the money. don't you think it's hard to believe that all those beautiful women are so interested in a man's blank profile?

i.e., these aren't individuals setting up fake profiles to scam people. if that were the case, i think they would focus on people's profiles that had pics and description, not blank ones.

DarkSteven -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 3:53:32 PM)

Why do you even need to ask?

lol [:)]

yah, i don't. trying to spur discussion about people's experiences and perspectives.

hardcybermaster -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:06:20 PM)

I think you have slightly missed the point, it comes back to fake profiles again..... the sites aren't fake, but they use (drum roll) fake profiles to draw stupid men in. Even some fairly respectable sites have the rolling ads on the side of the page with shit loads of babes saying "hi gorgeous, wanna meet up tonight?" and guess what? they all live in my smallish town!!! How fuckin lucky am I? lol

Karmastic -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:15:05 PM)

good description. it's semantics, since to me, that is a "fake" site. i left out the part about a daily barrage of spam from them.

so we agree it's fake profiles, but perhaps disagree on who sets them up (individual scammers, or the site).

i suppose some real people make real connections on such sites too, as lockit mentioned, although she was noting a different site she didn't name. i didn't quite make that connection.

hardcybermaster -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:28:47 PM)

I think the fake profiles are both scammers and the site, but in my experience.....quite a few years ago I have to say.... it is possible to join these sites for free, but as you said, you can't do shit without paying. Before I got anywhere near paying I would browse around the site and realise how poor it was. I think the key here is to use "respected" sites and not get fooled by the fly by night ones. Easier said than done maybe, but these days we all have the ability to use the net to our advantage and do some research, unlike 20 odd years ago when it was all a bit new and weird but exciting

Lockit -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:30:03 PM)

Its a vanilla site and I will be damned if I tell anyone where I can be found. lol You find me here, I am here. You find be there, I am there. I'm not connecting the dots. lol What does naming the site have to do with anything anyway?

Actually it is two sites and one has nothing to do with dating or sex. The scammers are there and disappear really fast, even on the dating site. Profile gone. So no numbers game.

Karmastic -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:38:30 PM)

lol, i sure as heck didn't want to know myself - i only asked cus you brought it up, as a comparison to the site i called "fake". i lost the connection of the site you mentioned to the "fake" site i mentioned. i guess you were saying that just like CM, there are always fake scammer profiles. My OP was about over the top fakes sites and the stuff they pull. i don't know if the site you mentioned pulls that shit or not.

IrishMist -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 4:44:59 PM)

So. Let me see if I have this right.

You subscribed to a site called "sexsearch.com". Since you left your profile blank with no picture, I can say it is safe to assume that you only went there to be contacted by all the 'fakes' that are on the site.
You were contacted by the 'fakes' and are now complaining that you can not reply back to the 'fakes' without first buying a subscription.

Mmmmhmmm.

Okk

I got it now.

lmao! that's a lot of entertaining assumptions about why i created a blank profile, and then posted about it.

all kidding aside, the reason i created the profile was because it was "free" and i had time to waste and was curious. as soon as i registered, it looked like bullshit, so i let it sit.

cut to weeks later, and a bevy of beauties PMing a blank profile. i think that's funny, and posted about it.

now cut to entertaining assumptions.

Come on now, Karmastic. Surely you know that you don't have to sign in to view profiles here.
In fact, I prefer to do my viewing in ninjarette mode, so no one knows I was peeking.
I know I can't be the only woman who does so. In fact, I bet lots of men do it too.

Edit to add my thoughts on fake sites.
I really have none. I truly believe that every site I've been on was a real site.
Perhaps I didn't care for their marketing ploys, but that doesn't make them fake.

yes, sometimes i sneek a peek too. but if i'm sending someone a PM, i don't hide that i looked at their profile. also, every person who's looked at my profile and PMd me was indeed a genuine person, while everyone who didn't view my profile but PMd me was a scammer (with one exception who snuck a peek).

i think it's a pretty good indicator - the scammers don't bother to look at people's profiles. i thought it was interesting that what i call the fake site set it up so that all their fake profiles PMing me appeared to have looked at my profile - a nice touch indeed! i call it a fake site because they're so over the top to me.

I generally view anonymously but if I'm going to write to someone, I'll view while logged in so I do showed up in his view list.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Fake dating sites (5/30/2012 5:31:56 PM)

Considering the number of dominant men here who will write to women with a blank profile, or one that specifically says "not looking," why would you automatically assume that it was different for women?

While Lockit is right that scammers abound all over the net, the reality is that any site that is going to cater almost specifically to men looking to get laid (as in something called "sexsearch.com"), it is only natural that they will try to entice the horny guys into spending their hard earned cash.

So while you may not have completely filled out your profile, you do completely fit the description of a "horny guy" by the fact that you did initially go to the site in the hopes of getting laid.  Not completing your profile and then receiving messages is completely irrelevant.

are you being serious? you're comparing men responding to blank profiles with pictures of hot women to hot women responding to men's blank profiles with no picture?

i give women more credit than that.

literally lmao!

what's so funny is your prism that people with penises do all these things just to get laid, and a 180 shift in your prism if the person has a vagina. i'm sure every person is different. and the one's with vaginas who register for the site get similar fake inducements.

Yeah, right. That is why there are so many dudes selling their underwear and making money from masturbating on cam for women.

There is no difference in the males and females who are horny.

If you go to a website with the name sexsearch.com, and expect reality, you are gonna be disappointed most days. At least own it and don't whine like it was an unexpected thing.

no, what's funny is that YOU would subscribe to a site called "sexsearch.com" and then try to convince everyone that you were not trying to get laid.

There's nothing to be embarassed about. Wanting to get laid is a pretty common need in both men and women.

I do believe that you protest just a bit too much. [8|]
