What on earth makes so many Male Doms think that a profile picture of a female submissive is going to be of interest to a prospective female sub?

Even worse there are countless Male Dom profiles where this is the ONLY picture on the profile, or the main profile pic.

I can understand a picture of the Dom WITH a female sub, or an extra picture portraying a specific kink or fetish as an adjunct to your own head or body shots, but putting a solitary female up as the thumbnail for your profile seems just as out of touch as the guys who think a girl is going to be impressed by naked lady decals or mud flaps on their car.

Mind you, I'm voraciously bi and LOVE the female form, but that form has virtually no place as the primary picture on a straight male profile. Save the hot sexy female pics for your dorm room walls and computer wallpaper boys.

How many female submissive profiles do you see with a shirtless picture of Brad Pitt as the profile pic? Heck, how many with a picture of any solitary male figure other than perhaps their Owner if the woman in question happens to be attached.

If you want to come across as a MAN and attract real life women, we expect to see YOU as the primary profile picture, not your favorite female stroke inspiring ideal. :)

I think its some sort of fetish....like having a cock-shot as your primary pic....people posting it are not allways in full control of their actions. Or you know, dumb.

I keep meaning to add another pic of my sub as a secondary but she is a)Shy and b)"But I look terrible in that picture, the rope is clashes with my corset colour......" (yeah yeah I know big softy that I am)

I think its more down to low self esteem. Which we're working on :-) (can you tell I'm a Daddy Dom?). As when I DO get a good picture she claims its false advertising thanks to good make up/photography.

That's a common pet peeve. There are usually two variants:

1. It's a former play partner. Generally, when the Dom is asked if he had permission to post that, he goes blank.

2. It's a pic stolen from the Internet. No better way to annouce to prospective subs that a guy spends time with online porn and would rather share his fantasies than show himself.

Actually that is one thing that is a pet peeve and cracks me up hysterically at the same time. It's like the men who do this are so freaking lazy they don't even want to write something, and think somehow that by giving you a picture book of "this is what I want" you'll jump into their lap. It works on men to look at hot pics of babes, not really for women, how is it that they don't get that? Plus if the guy had this hot woman why is he trolling for more? It's ridiculous.

One guy sent me a picture of a lovely female breast with his first email, I asked him if it was a self portrait.

You are quite right....it shows a lack of understanding of the female mind and IMHO the chances are the poster will be a bad Dom as a result. I mean if you cant get the basics right how are you going to be able to reduce her to a puddle of sub goo with a word or glance?

Exactly, thank you for putting it better than I did. If a guy is after a woman, especially on sites like this where women are outnumbered by men, he's got to put some thought in to how to get one. To me, female pictures are actually a step down from dick pictures because it's more clueless and shows less understanding of the whole relationship thing- even if it's just a one time encounter. He's not even offering up himself as part of the bargain via a dick picture, he's ONLY offering up his wants. Someone who is that focused on himself isn't the type of person I want to get naked with even once. Add BDSM and it gets to be even more of a red flag to think of spending any time at all with someone who only sees himself, his wants, his desires. I might get hurt being around someone like that.

While I think the men described in the OP are more likely to be clueless than narcissistic / sociopathic / predatory, it's an interesting point to consider.

Twice I had red flags about men with whom I was talking on the phone, looked them up in my county's Clerk of Courts database and found that they each had two domestic violence convictions.

(ETA - they did not have those sorts of pictures.)

I don't think it's just a male Dom thing with the pictures. I think it's just a male thing altogether. There is a segment of male subs that do the same thing. Every so often I will come across sub male profiles in my search where their main picture - or only picture - is one of them submitting to a Domme and she is clearly a big part of the picture. What makes them think I want to see another Domme when I'm not looking for one?

Once read a male profile that stated something along the lines of " why do women put pics up of them sucking or fucking other guys, I can't take you serious anymore if you have that." and I agree on both parts, no pics of women as the main pic on men profiles, and no fucking/ sucking pics, if you want someone to take you serious.

I know what you mean, but there are female dominants who do essentially the same thing. A male slave kissing feet -- probably from a porno site. And other stuff like a picture of a chastity device, or a collar, or a paddle. Sometimes it's an illustration or a very old bondage pic from the 1950s.
