There is a submissive adult woman, who is very important to me, whose personality puts her as a curious precocious teenager. We have been friend with kinky benefits and support for years. She calls me "Mister." It's respectful, but not cumbersome considering I do not own her or collar her. But it sounds like "master," which is a nod to our lasting relationship. And my favorite: It's filthy. It's the most vulgar title in the most subtle way. "Mister" is the term we use for strangers. Mister can be anyone, totally replaceable by the next guy on the train. And the things Mister does...

So my question is this: What title, if you prefer one, do you like and why?
For those whose "titles" take the form of pet names: What nickname always puts a smile on your face or a wet spot in your pants, and why?

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:19:11 AM)

You know it's funny you should say that, because 'Mister' is a term I use if we're playing at some variation of the dangerous stranger type fantasy (we don't do full on role play scenes, but you know what I mean). Like 'Oh don't hurt me Mister' or 'Let me go Mister, I'll do anything you say'. Even said in a mostly joking way, gets him revved up every time. I agree, very dirty. It also makes me think of prostitutes encouraging a potential John, 'want some company Mister' but for some reason I can't say that without affecting a cockney accent.

I think the equivalent for me would be 'darlin' which he used to say a lot at the beginning of our relationship. Always sounded a bit like a marginally sleezy pick up line, especially in his American accent, and a tiny bit patronizing, like an older guy might say in a bar whilst patting the waitress' ass. 'Baby doll' works in a similar way but can also be more intimate and sweet.

Edited for shameful grammar mistake.

I heard ball gags were invented for that reason.

It makes me really happy to know I'm not the only one who has stumbled up "Mister" as a thing. I suppose, just as evenly, I'm interested in titles or pet names you (the general you, but Athena included) dislike, and why.

I do not "God" or "Goddess." It's not a religious thing, but a God has to be powerful. I've never met anyone in the D/s world that has the income or influence to do the title justice. I'm fine with "Lord" but I always feel like peon from the Warcraft computer games saying "Yes, M'lord."

nephandi -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:35:23 AM)

Greetings

I do not know about filthy, I have never really used filthy titles. When I was a Gorean slave I used Master and Mistress for the free including for my Master. Dominants of other lifestyles I called by their name unless they asked for a title in which case I would call them Sir/Madam or in Norwegian Herr/Fru. I had a teacher in Spiritual BDSM once who wanted me to use the title Prabhu which is Indian for Master. I had a play partner I subbed for once and he just wanted me to use his name so no title there.

Generally I had no problem with using Master/Mistress withing the Gorean community for the titles have another meaning there, they are just a show of respect since any slave is below any free in rank. With BDSMers it is different, Master/Mistress is often a title that is very personal to the individuals within a given relationship and then I sort of feel that Sir or Madam is more appropriate to use for a BDSM Dom that is not your own. Since I have spent so much time with Goreans I really do not have the whole but you are not my Dom thing going on, while there is nothing wrong with that, so when I was a slave I did generally try to show respect to all Dominants.

Now that I am a free woman I must say that it do at times bother me when kajira call me Mistress, it do not sit right with me. I am okey with Lady with some Gorean free use for a free woman, but Mistress that just makes my skin crawl, it is not me. If someone need to address me formally I would much rather be called Miss Shultze, which is my name.

As for nicknames, well Aswad often call me damane, and he did it even more when I was his slave. Damane is from our favorite fantasy books and they are enslaved mages in a nation that think magick is to dangerous to let mages go free. Aswad felt it was a funny and fitting nickname to a Pagan sub. :D I also had a slave name, nella, which Aswad called me at times. I generally call him Cupcake now when at home so that is not to dirty.

I do not know if these are the answers you are looking for, but there it is.

I wish you well.

To be honest I'm not really keen on any titles for my partner outside of being playful. It has always been a sticking point for me. I do sometimes call him Master but it's rare, or I might say 'yes sir' in response to a direct order. I sometimes refer to him as 'my Master' here because it's how people understand our relationship. But for me the more titles and formality we have, the more I start feeling like I'm acting a part instead of just living this relationship. I would feel supremely silly calling him Lord or anything like that. It doesn't bother me when I hear others use those titles, they just don't work for us. I'm not sure whether we live up to others' definitions of slave and master or whatever.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:43:42 AM)

When I have a man in my life, I generally refer to him as "the mister" and I do that as regards other people's men, too. No filthy connotations, sadly. But a fun idea!

BambiBoi -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:55:37 AM)

I should clarify, I just think "Mister" can be very dirty. Your answers, of course, need not be vulgar.

Oh I got it! And yay for this thread, Bambi!

WomanlyWiles -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:57:46 AM)

An old flame said "Yes, Ma'am" to me, in a sarcastic but funny way, and that's what I've been ever since. It's not a word people habitually use in the UK - it has rather old fashioned connotations( in the Jane Austen, rather than the old lady sense). I made Psycho whisper my real name to me the other night and that was supremely sexy, as he doesn't use it otherwise.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 10:59:21 AM)

Some of my young friends go all savage when someone calls them "ma'am". It baffles me why anyone would be furious at courtesy, but then folks have been "ma'am"ing me since I was about twelve!

BambiBoi -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 11:07:01 AM)

Nephandi,

It's interesting to see this from a Gorean perspective as well. I agree, many find "master" and "mistress" to be personal titles that one must earn the right to use.

needlesandpins -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 11:11:59 AM)

i don't have any title, or nickname. when with my ex i liked that he refered to me as 'our lass'.

the god, or godess titles i see people give themselves make me laugh. it's so pretentious, and very much puts me in mind of someone who has a huge inferiority complex.

my playmate called me bubble for a short time. he said it was rhyming slang.....bubble and squeek meaning Greek, because i am. i quite liked it, but he doesn't use it now.

Greetings

I just have to add something to this thread, my maternal grandfather's nickname for my grandmother. Now this have nothing to do with BDSM though, but I think it would fit the thread. My grandfather was this amazing, very masculine man, he was a tool make by trade, he was a war hero and risked his life to help Jews escape during WW2 and he was a stout hunter, at home however my grandmother called the shots, you did not mess with my grandmother. Once during WW2 the Germans came to her door, she was then a 17 year old girl, she just closed the door right in the soldier's face, she could have been shot, she really was a force of nature when she got angry. My grandfather always used to call my grandmother Commando Sargent Shit. Now the reason for that was that he had this little rhyme, well it rhymes in Norwegian. Kommando Sersjant Dritt kom fra Oslo og hit. (Commando Sargent Shit came from Oslo to here.) It was just a running joke between them.

I wish you all well

You're more likely to be called 'Mrs" here, or "the lady" e.g. small children will be admonished to" let that lady go first." You know you've reached a certain age when mothers say that!

OH yes. That's been my world pretty much forever. [>:]

DNAHelicase -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 12:26:41 PM)

I prefer Madam, or to a lesser degree, Ma'am, from my subs. I also like Lady (my first name). When I top, I don't ask people to use a title with me unless they want to use one, and generally then I go by "Miss O" which is a running joke among a bunch of my kinky friends (I orgasm from all kinds of unusual things, including many of the sadistic things I do).

I despise Goddess for many reasons, not the least of which are the connotations of infallibility and supreme powerfulness. Dominants are people, too! I also despise Mistress. That word has been too inextricably linked with cheating for my taste.

You know being from Mississippi originally, I say "darlin" a whole lot. But since being on the boards, I thought people might take offense to it so I hardly ever use it. I guess it would depend on the tone one used it in as well. But on here it's hard to hear that.

Bambi, I would say that I like to use pet names for slaves/subs. But as far as I go, I would see nothing wrong with "Ma'am", or "Miss".
I do not like being called "mistress", or "goddess". Just sounds so fake to me.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Dirtiest Title Ever (8/30/2012 12:38:38 PM)

"Mistress" is a no for me, because I can STILL hear Hugh's voice when someone calls me that. "Mistress Francine" is fine for when I am with other leatherfolk but not for a general term. I used to call Bill "sweetheart". I haven't called anyone else that since. Totally avoid the word.

Around here it's a fairly common generic term of endearment too, but it does tend to be more from older men to younger women in my experience. Depending on tone and circumstance it can be sweet and friendly or downright irritating. My husband is from the midwest, in his accent it makes me picture some jaded barfly in a smoky room putting the moves on the sweet young thing serving his drinks. Then, in the movie in my head, he takes me out in his vintage car and we drive out and make sweet love on the hood under the desert moonlight... there's more, but really, you don't wanna know!
