Why on earth do you think that this has anything to do with whether someone is dominant or not? Do you really believe there is a "one size fits all" for what people like or dislike?

I'm guessing there's another question here, and this part is a set up.

fair call, Aswad :)

Greta, I would LOVE to have a dog, but my CATS, and my work schedule do not allow it. Even if I could convince the cats that the big galoof dog thing was GOOD, my work schedule would just be cruel to a dog.

*sighs*

Maybe I'll get some fish, again, if for no other reason than they MIGHT be kitty TV.....

No it honestly isn't.

I am wondering how can dominants co-exist with cats and how they rationalize it, just because, cats are dominants themselves and will not hesitate to dom over any dominant.
I ask this also because I have cats, and they are precious to me, but I also had issues with my past dom, who made me choose between my cats or him. And I had to choose my cats.

My family always had dogs right..., but the day I brought my cat home. The only cat in the house very quickly lorded over all the dogs. They are just natural.

They were chihuahuas and shih tzu though, so don't know if she would be as successful with big dogs.

Cats have those pointy, sharp claws that can get painfully stuck in the tender nose of a pooch. I'd stay away if I was a dog, too.

I couldn't say if Dominants like cats or not.

In my experience, though, men seem to dislike them. Or...they say they do.

Greta, look at your last sentence, and tell me again how your question about cats and dominants did not have secondary issue? :)

Cats are not dominant. Humans are dominant to cats. You might not be successful training them but that's a reflection on your dedication to learn how to do that. I had 2 cats.. da boyz.

I determined when they got fed, when they were petted, when they went to the vet, what toys were bought for them if any, if they were allowed out or not..... Need I go on?

There are great lines about cats, how they take a message and get back to you etc, and that's because we compare them to dogs, because both are domestic pets. But.. they're not dominant. (That said, if your cat is aggressive, you need to deal with that, and that has nothing to do with d/s).

I've known dominants who would never have anything but cats.. it would be unthinkable.

You chose your cat over your dominant, because like most of us pet lovers, once we take a pet in, they're family. You just need to find a dominant who's an animal lover like yourself. You want a relationship and that takes compatibility. One trait you're looking for is dominance, but it's no less important to you than being a cat lover.

Compatibility first, not d/s, unless all you're looking for is a play partner.

I've learned not to trust anyone who doesn't like cats, unless they are allergic, then you get a pass.

All the dominant males I've encountered who didn't like cats (I'm trying to recall if there have been any dominant females, but so far none come to mind) have all been jealous of the cat's innate sense of self worth.

Like most, I'm not jealous of my cats b/c they possess this trait, on the contrary, I celebrate it!! We should all posses such self worth !!

Himself is a dedicated cat lover; it's one of the many very important things we have in common.

It's a POV.

personally, I prefer cats over most humans. Their demands are often very simple. They are honest in their relationships (I do like you. I DO NOT like you. ). Cats rarely return if they feel their trust has been betrayed, and they give their affections honestly.

This. Cats aren't as complex as folk may try to make them. Chaos has his own little boy cat, Richard, aka Doom Cat. He is like his little sidekick, buddy, and minion of mischief.

Love me, love my cats.

I've had cats my whole life; even when I lived on a boat for 12 years. Just like a house without musical instruments doesn't feel like a home to me, so be it with cats.

They are my animal familiars; honest, without guile, sensual and hedonistic. They are soft, warm vibrating heating pads. They steadfastly stand by even when on my knees with my head over the toilet vomiting. They know they are needed, and their presence is healing and comforting.

They sleep when they want, play when they want, eat when they want, show affection when they want (or they think it's needed.) They even do yoga with me (see Jazz in Sphinx pose). What better role model could a human have?

I love cats.

I have a cat. She purrs when I (playfully) hit her or restrain her. We've determined she's a masochistic submissive with a foot fetish. ;)

Chael and I had two cats up until about 3 years ago, got them both in our first year of marriage. We still have one of them (Jonesy) but the other one died (Pixel).

Once an adult, Pixel was always a "I'll let you know" sort of cat. Never mean or aggressive, but if he didn't want you to pet him he'd at first give you this annoyed look, then he'd get up and leave. Opposite when he wanted petted: you were expected to comply. I'd be sitting down somewhere, he'd come up to me and start purring with that "pet me" body language and intent stare... And if I ignored him he'd nip my leg - not enough to really hurt and never enough to break skin, just enough to grab my attention. This would happen repeatedly if I stopped petting him before he was through wanting it. Sure, the times I Really Didn't Want To Right Now I could and did give him a good shove or shut the door on him, but it was a funny game we played.

He also loved it when Chael and I would love up to each other.... If Chael and I would hug or start kissing in the middle of the living room or somewhere, Pixel would come over, sit next to our feet and purr until we were done.

He played ROUGH too. I have scars all up one arm from him, totally my fault and never from him being malicious... If you didn't think to wear the play-with-Pixel puppet we had, you got what you got. We'd grab him, roll him over on his back and rough up his belly and he's grab you and start ripping the hell out of your arm. But not because he didn't like it and wanted you to stop... Oh no, it was just ON. Sometimes we'd start it, sometimes he'd launch the first attack lol. - one time Chael made the mistake of masturbating with Pixel in the room, Pixel took the movement as an invitation to fight, ran up and pounced!

He was a Very independent style cat. He is still very missed.

Jonesy is much the opposite of Pixel. He's Very Very attached to me. When at home he is in physical contact with me a good 80% of the time... On days I don't leave the house, call it 18-20hrs of the day. He's either laying on top of me directly or laying near me with one paw reached out so that he's still touching me somehow... And all sorts of positions in between (to include sometimes falling asleep standing up when I'm sitting in a chair or something where he can't just lay next to me.... He'll get in it behind me, stand up leaning against my back so he can put his front paws and chin on my shoulder and after a while pass out like that lol). I can't have a closed door between us or he scratches, yowls, reaches feet under the door, lays his head side-ways on the floor and peeks under until I come out. He's fine if Chael is gone for a day or year, but if I leave for more than a day Chael says he walks around the house and keeps checking my bedroom while yowling... Hell, if I change rooms when he's not near me he'll walk into the middle of the house and yowl until I call out to let him know what room I'm in lol. Sometimes I wake up at night to find him sitting directly in front of my head staring at me.

Chael and him get along really well, Chael loves(d) them both, but Jonesy and he have never been close until recently. Chael liked how rough and tumble Pixel was while if you run towards Jonesy he gets scared (with Pixel, if you ran at him he'd run away but totally unafraid... If you then turned and ran he'd run after you, too. We'd play Chase now and then lol) .

Watching Chael and Jonesy get close lately has produced a lot of "awwwww" and "HAHAHA" moments. It started with Chael trying to get Jonesy to "speak" to get a treat each day... Eventually it worked, so Chael and he would do that each day... Then Chael expanded it to string a serving of canned food and it worked... Then with catnip.... So Chael worked it out that when he shook the treat bag or held up the can or whatever that Jonesy started asking for it before it was given.

Now Jonesy tells Chael when to give him stuff. He walks up to Chael and gives him the "I want something" look. Chael looks at him or says, "what?" and Jonesy starts talking to him until he gets what he wants. They've progressed from Chael making him speak for a treat every day or three to Jonesy getting, everyday, a treat, canned food, catnip, and gone over with the broom at his (Jonesy's) orders through out the day.

As to power-exchange roles, when we got the cats we were in an equals, dual-dominant household. Now we're in a female-led D/s relationship.

We both prefer cats over any other type of pet, though we both love animals in general and are open to other types in the future..

I like cats. I don't feel at all threaten by them. I find that while they can be a little independent that they're very trainable. They're loving and co-operative.

Oh, you have one of those too? Yoga (on left) only loves the foot part though; he'll give you a 'boop' on your face if you try to restrain him.

Ahhhh, kittehs...what's not to love? I may be their 24/7 slave when it comes right down to it, but as you can see in the picture...they wear MY collar(s). As does their brother Boobi, whose picture I'll feature another time.
