Only when they are purring for me and on their back with their legs in the air, while I am rubbing their belly.
Other than that, not really!

Well, on second thought they can be cute and playful and gain My attention.
Those claws though...

Enough said!

My cat and I are a package deal. I totally love cats! I always have. I had a yellow tabby her entire life, from a few weeks old til she died at sixteen and a half years old. Now I have a rescue kitty I got as a kitten. He's six years old now and fourteen pounds of black furriness and love. He'll be with me his entire life.

Not a dom but I like cats but unfortunately I'm allergic and I'm not allowed any where I live right now.
I hope I will be able to find a place next summer that allows them and I may possibly get one.

Master has some cats and they are cute so I just make sure I have allergy meds with me when I'm at his place. Thankfully his being a Dom has nothing to do with him owning cats.

Master has actually trained his cats to do certain things. He seems to have that affect on his pets.

Neither of us really care for dogs though. Too much work.

Love me, love my cats.

I've had cats my whole life; even when I lived on a boat for 12 years. Just like a house without musical instruments doesn't feel like a home to me, so be it with cats.

They are my animal familiars; honest, without guile, sensual and hedonistic. They are soft, warm vibrating heating pads. They steadfastly stand by even when on my knees with my head over the toilet vomiting. They know they are needed, and their presence is healing and comforting.

They sleep when they want, play when they want, eat when they want, show affection when they want (or they think it's needed.) They even do yoga with me (see Jazz in Sphinx pose). What better role model could a human have?

Good grief, you sound just like me in your cat assessment and appreciationi. Maybe we were separated at birth?

I have had cats all my life until moving here. We had a cat when my daughter lived at home but when she moved on her own, she took him with her since he is really her cat when she chose him when she was about 8 years old.

When growing up, my family had dozens of cats since we lived on a large piece of property with a barn where they roamed freely. When I got married, we again had about 4 cats because my husband had a heart for strays so whenever he'd find one he'd bring it home with him.

I *love* kittehs! I think I'm allergic to them, though, and I don't like getting scratched or the smell of the litter box but I still love them.

I've learned not to trust anyone who doesn't like cats, unless they are allergic, then you get a pass.

All the dominant males I've encountered who didn't like cats (I'm trying to recall if there have been any dominant females, but so far none come to mind) have all been jealous of the cat's innate sense of self worth.

Like most, I'm not jealous of my cats b/c they possess this trait, on the contrary, I celebrate it!! We should all posses such self worth !!

Himself is a dedicated cat lover; it's one of the many very important things we have in common.

ETA: In response to Greedy's quote. Dogs look at you and say, OMG, they must be Gods. Cats look at you and say, OMG, we must be Gods.

It's a POV.

And this..

personally, I prefer cats over most humans. Their demands are often very simple. They are honest in their relationships (I do like you. I DO NOT like you. ). Cats rarely return if they feel their trust has been betrayed, and they give their affections honestly.

I am wondering how can dominants co-exist with cats and how they rationalize it, just because, cats are dominants themselves and will not hesitate to dom over any dominant.
I ask this also because I have cats, and they are precious to me, but I also had issues with my past dom, who made me choose between my cats or him. And I had to choose my cats.

I like having a cat around, they're good pets generally. Also, here in the real world, I am not the only one living in my house.

I don't accept a cats dominance, and most cats I have owned seem to accept me as the pack leader/Great One. Perhaps the dogs instructed them. Cats need attention, feeding, letting out, they demand a portion of your time, like any responsibility. Treat a cat with love and respect, it will be returned to you, redoubled. Kind of like ...... a relationship.

My Master likes cats (he loves animals in general, really) well enough, but is more of a dog-person. I am the same way. I do love kitties but have never really had the same kind of bond with a cat as I've had with dogs. Just my personal experience. Also, I have mild allergies to both dogs and cats but it's worse with cats (though both are manageable with allergy medication.)

That being said, I don't see there being any issue with dominant people owning cats because I don't think cats are necessarily "dominant"--any animal being kept as a pet is, in essence, dependent on the owner for pretty much everything, and lives under the decisions and whims of the owner. I do find most cats tend to be a little aloof and carry a sort of almost comically self-important attitude, but I don't think it should be mistaken for an assertion of dominance--it's just a personality thing. Most cats are on the independent, "on-my-own-terms" side but they are still pets. Their style of communicating with and getting along with people is just different than that of most dogs.

Something I always found funny, my mother has cats and they will act all aloof and independent, but the moment she is out of their sight (in a different room behind a closed door or something) they yowl their heads off and search for her all over her house until they find where she's gone. It always seems like they are so prideful and pretend not to "need" their human, but as soon as she is gone you hear the real story!

The bolded part. Cats need attention (on their terms). Letting out? Well, yeah, if you're inclined to let them out (mine are strictly indoor, since I don't want them exposed to cat-killing neighbors or other animals. Not to mention the diseases they could be exposed to outdoors, cars, etc).

Yes, they DO demand a portion of your time, as does any living creature you take into your care.

Why on earth do you think that this has anything to do with whether someone is dominant or not? Do you really believe there is a "one size fits all" for what people like or dislike?

I'm guessing there's another question here, and this part is a set up.

No it honestly isn't.

I hate to burst your rose coloured glasses bubble here but no, all cats are not dominant.

As for whether or not I like them........I don't hate them. They just do not really interest me. Most cats I've had are only slightly more interesting than having a fish. I prefer a much more interactive and companionable pet. One that actually DOES something other than flop around, eat and shit. I like having a pet that can go places with me. One that enjoys the outdoor activities that I do. Cats are rather boring and useless. I don't care for boring and useless.

I have a cat that I would happily give to a good home. He wouldn't be missed at all.

Then upfront, you chose the wrong dominant for you.

As mentioned previously, [my] Master is not especially fond of cats, but He knew that I would not part with them and would not impose that as a condition.
Because of His allergies I decided to ban them from the bedroom for His comfort and that for the most part has worked.
Last year my oldest cat was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and for Him it was a no brainer that I would move sick kitty into the bedroom so I might spend as much time as possible with him... and spoil him rotten.

If giving up your cats is a Hard Limit then be more discerning in your search for a dominant partner and be patient with your objective of finding someone who is right for you (and your cats).

My girls never get outside. I live in the city and it would crush me if something happened to em. Plus they're declawed(You should see what's left of a one time very expensive leather couch)so they can't really defend themselves so letting them out wouldn't be nice.

As for time, the rule of thumb I've always heard is that you have to give twenty minutes loving a day minimum...but the more the merrier

Master has no problems with other people's cats, however, he says that he refuses to own a pet that won't obey him. (And yet, he married me....go figure)
