A few things :
I'm following,and fully intend to continue so,Doctor's orders .
The pillow hint, good stuff...didn't know that, hadn't been told that...but it works real well
Thirdly :I suffer from chronic back pain,so pain and I are old friends ;-).I feel I have a high pain threshold ....I wasn't prepared for this level of ache and discomfort....lol,not at all
Lastly....Thank you one and all.It is such a comfort, such a warm feeling to know that no matter what is going on in my life I can come here and receive the best advice, the warmest wishes and the true concern of friends.
I do thank you,I certainly appreciate you and I fervently wish I could hug each and every one of you

Mike, instead of actually coughing, try this. First, get the cushion in place. Then take a nice breath, then breathe it out. At the end of the enhale give a bit of a "huff". Its hard to explain over the keyboard. Anyways, do this in sets of five, every couple of hours. It will help keep your chest clear. If you are a smoker, it will help to loosen any crap in your chest.

Wish me luck there,it isn't my first attempt, but certainly hope it is my last ;-)

Glad to hear you're doing better, mike.

What ydd was just saying, they used to give post op folks this cute little toy to help with the blowing out rather than coughing gig. One part you blew into like a straw and the other section was a little ball in a plastic tube. Blow into it hard enough to make the ball rise and then huff to expel bad air (i.e. gas) from the lungs. Less jarring than the coughing idea.

The above post is *not* related to certain kinks that I have in any way.

Nah < I get screwed in that department. They(the Doc's) just assume that the current pain meds will suffice...and they send me home empty handed.
If I allow you to cut me open the least you can do is write me a script

And just a correction to a previous post from someone.....the hernia wasn't incarcerated....that is what you do to bad guys. The proper term is strangulated. I hope that your surgery is effective.

Google incarcerated hernia - its the same thing, and as legitimate a term as strangulated. Perhaps its more common in countries founded on the English health terminology, rather than American.

and how did the three day injectable pain med do? We have just started using it in the hospital i work in, and would love to know its effectiveness.

I'm not sure, both for the simple fact this is only the beginning of day 2 and I have no reference point as far as pain levels.
While I have ,in the past, had operations in which locals were used they were never in the groin area.
So while I am feeling a hell of a lot of pain and discomfort I do not know where those levels would be absent this new drug.
I don't know how I will answer that when the Surgeon asks me the same question,I imagine he will ask me to put a number to my pain....and that will be a 9...so there isn't much further north that number can go
But I also think he made a mistake when he assumed my current pain meds would be sufficient to the issue,5 mg's of morphine are certainly enough to keep my back quiet...but I don't feel they are up to the task post-operative wise

Slvemike - if you are on 5mg of morphine routinely, i really don't think the average surgeon will give you anything else - BUT, you could call his office and say that the pain meds aren't working well enough.

He might be able to give you something else , like toradol, to help cover the pain.

Yeah, I think you need to talk to your surgeon. People with chronic, long term pain issues are always a bit harder to medicate postoperatively because your body has already developed a level of tolerance - especially to opioid medications. Surgeons always want their patients to be able to deep breath & cough and take regular, gentle walks, so if you are in enough pain to prevent these things, you need to bring them up.

Most doctors WILL make a mistake on that issue, at least in my experience.  Your back pain may be covered great from your ongoing dose, but after surgery, it is something "new" added to your body and needs treatment.  I know when I was battling all those kidney stones earlier this year, when I was admitted to the hospital, the doctor gave me 2mg of dilaudid every TWO hours through an IV.  He laughed at how stoned off my ass I was, but it was the first time in months I had been without pain and I just was ecstatic about that, lol.  Of course, I was inpatient, where I could be constantly monitored.

As someone who is horribly drug tolerant of everything, trust me when I say, call the surgeon.  This is essentially post op pain and a post op script only.  Sadly, laws over the pain meds are forcing doctors to allow their patients to suffer pain.  I'm glad that your 5mg script covers your back pain, it wouldn't even touch mine.

My wishes for quick healing, so you can be back swinging that club again soon.

I am glad that the surgery went well, but sorry that you have to suffer some more pain. perhaps some Norco is in order?

Thankfully pain and I are old,old friends it is now some 48 hours post surgery so I think I am safe in saying the worst has passed.
Other than some ibuprofens I made it with my regular dosage of methadone....and I took my dog for her morning walk(probably should have waited a day on this, she is still a bit of a puppy and too energetic by far on the leash).
Things should be all good now,I can relax a bit more and allow my body to recover.
