Well for starters, "positions" is plural but "it's" is singular. So, you seem a bit confused. Would a dictionary help?

K.

Now now Mr English Major, it`s is an abbreviation of it is ?

It's a contraction; properly, and the ONLY time including the exclusion of the possessive case, when an apostrophe is used.

Positions in the case of the argument is clearly indicated by the spectrum of our OUR individual loosely coupled individual personal position, each; in kind alike, or; if you prefer; akin.

And it (focusing on my position, of the positions assembled) and then contracting to it is, while euphonically disasterous, is not wholly incorrect.

We speak English you all, we ain't English.  We have American usage which may equate to a pub piss up after a Geordie win, but it is not entirely without commerce in our language.

And while there are a plethora of semicolons in my remarks, they are indeed proper to denote the placement of pregnant pauses as well as my unchangeable habit of anacolutha.

This brings to mind a favorite moment from being an exchange student on the sceptr'd isle.

A friend and I were debating how to pronounce "leisure." I argued for a long E on the grounds of the first-grade adage "When two vowels go walking, the first does the talking."

He heard me out patiently, smiled in that politely superior way only Britons can pull off, and said, "DC, it's our language."

YOUR position is quite clear.

I've always thought so, but you've spent quite some time trying to convince me that it's a position of faith so.....apparently it's not that clear to you.

And Buddhism?

I mean, come on, you fells can split hairs all day long. The fact is that atheism has never once stated you cannot believe in an afterlife, or anything else... just that god or gods dont exist.

So, to state that someone believes in an afterlife is delusional, or that someone believes in vampires is delusional, is wrong in both cases. Buddists do believe in reincarnation, they do not recognize the belief in god or gods.

What my whole point here has been about is that some people charge in proclaiming this or that to be true, and this or that to be false, based upon nothing more than their own ignorance, never bothering to get to know the facts, never once opening their minds to even the possibility. Just as close minded as you fellas accuse religion of being.

If people replaced the word God with karma, they'd be a lot less squeamish over these types of discussions. Karma very well could get you raped. It can also get you pregnant. And then it can get one aborted. It pays to be mindful of karma.

This overly simplistic notion of Karma makes predictions that have been proven false.

Of course, if we take the more enlightened position on what Karma is and then, instead of translating the word literally as Action or Ceremony, we rather translate the word to its English equivalent phrase, Cause and Effect, or to the closest analogous modern concepts, Reason and Knowledge, then obviously it will have some bearing on anything (and not just rape).

Hell, if we really want to get esoteric, we can translate it as Intelligence, which with a capital I must be read as implying a degree of enlightenment as well, and then everything starts to make a whole lot more sense. Intelligence allows some predictions that can be used to minimize the risk of being raped. Lack of intelligence can certainly get you pregnant. Intelligence can lead to abortions in some cases, or the opposite. It pays to be mindful of intelligence, sure enough.

Intelligence doesn't seem to be what you had in mind when you posted, though.

Why don't you tell people what Atheism twuely means, since you seem to believe they can't read a dictionary.

edited to add:

It's just a purely rhetorical proposition, since he has me on Hide.

One person, speaking for all the atheists? Wouldn't that make the atheists an organized group (kind of like an anti-religion religion)? And, wouldn't that make the spokesperson like an anti-pope of sorts? Ooooooh! A new, organized "religious" group for the lefties to hate (or for them to form another double-standard. Whichever)!

Peace and comfort,

Michael

That's what I'm saying.

Christianity has tens of thousands of different positions (which tazzy has a habit of denying are actually Christianity) and that's just Christianity a subcategory of theism. But for atheism non-atheists somehow get to decide that's not allowed

P.S. Tazzy, here's another example. I quoted the whole post to make you happy.

If there is indeed a true religion then by that fact there can be only one. On this planet alone there are thousands and if you will count the defunct religions, millions of religions, only one of which could possibly be right

I dont agree with this. I dont believe there is a "true religion" or only one way to have faith.

It is interesting you should disagree with me and then go on to assert the very points I made.

1/ There is no true religion. (Edit : this includes atheism. Atheism is a much a religion as any other. It is a belief system.)

2/ Faith, by definition, is what you want it to be.

1) I disagree with. For everyone, there is a true religion. People worship in different ways, yet for each person, there is only one way. Atheists do have beliefs... but theirs are founded in science. Without a scientific reason, they do not have any belief/faith.

2) Faith, by definition....

(a) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof
(b) : complete trust

..... and must have those elements or its not "faith". So it cannot be whatever one wishes them to be as a result.

You could argue someone has "faith" the sun will rise every morning. But, in reality, its been proven that it has in the past. As a result, there is no reason to believe that course, scientifically, will change. That is not a faith by definition.

Yep.. and? So your beliefs arent founded in Science? Are you really wanting to argue that?

Come on!

Even Cline agrees.

quote:

To be fair, it can be argued that a certain amount of "faith" exists with how average person accepts what science says. Few people are in a position to confirm the results of modern scientific experiments so they have to accept what others say based on their experience and authority. Unlike with religion, however, anyone can in principle confirm those experiments on their own — and the ability of others to repeat experiments to make sure they are right is one of the things which defines the scientific method.

To boot, science itself is based on a number of beliefs, some of them untestable, the rest merely unproven. For instance, the belief in the existence of an objective reality. Granted, that's not way out there as beliefs go, but it's still a belief. Scientifically grounded atheism is a minimalist belief system, with most forms of atheism having varying degrees of additional beliefs piled on top of some of these basics.

"I think therefor I am" seems to validate the concept of objective reality.
