So far, CNN has reported different things about several items. They are just now getting the shooter's name right. They've been reporting for hours that it was Ray that was the shooter. It was really Adam. (However, they were just showing footage of Ray being taken in for questioning in handcuffs.) They messed up where the father lives. (Wrong city.) Whether the father had also been shot or not. The brother being shot. Something about a roommate.

I have it on the tv right now and they are listing their own mistakes.

What provokes this kind of weirdness ?

I'd like to see an end to all the government sponsored and sanctioned drugs these kids are being fed. That would be a start for me.

What kind of world do we live in where a nut is shooting innocent children? In utter disbelief.

A more apt question is "what is the human race coming to when children are the preferred targets?"

Seems like personal responsibility is taking another vacation.....blame anyone but yourselves....

One of the most common comments on FB tonight is from parents who when they picked their kids up.....felt really relieved and happy.

I don`t know.......these kinds of things didn`t happen when I was a youngster.

What`s changed?

Can anyone tell me what this has to do with anything ?
This is okay ? But anyone who came here and decried the gun culture in this fucking country gets asked to"please, please, not now "
If not now,when ?
20 k-grade children's blood is staining a classroom floor and it's inappropriate to discuss guns?
What drugs are you folks taking ?
I've heard three independent, supposedly rational ,people voice the opinion that it was a shame there wasn't an armed teacher there to take down this mutt.
How long till one of our learned legislators suggests that same idiotic solution ?
How twisted must the culture be that there is a knee jerk reaction to gun violence that suggests more guns are the answer ?
20 young lights were extinguished today, but you folks prefer I not mention the method used to dispatch them with such ease[&o]
Fine, have it your way...we won't discuss guns, yet all any of us can think about is the little victims, dead in part because it is impolitic to discuss guns in this fucking country !

What`s changed?

That list is so long...

The food we eat
The way we are schooled
The medications we are on
The games we play
The way we are raised
Our attention spans
Our medical/mental health care
What we see on TV, movies, etc...
The overall speed of life
And on and on and on.....I use "we" generically

I'm not pointing to any of these things (or a combo of them) as the culprit, but those are the things that come to mind regarding what's changed since I was a kid.

I'm breaking (no doubt foolishly) my long-term rule of avoiding gun discussions, but this strikes as a bit apples-to-oranges for two reasons:

(a) The verb "murdered" suggests intention. Are there really, I wonder, that many people who get behind the wheel with goal of killing someone?

(b) A car's primary purpose is nonlethal.

I know what has changed and is changing. In a couple of generations all you USA people will be like this killer. But I have been prohibited on these forums from saving the USA population from its doom. I want to save you all, but ... [&:]

I grew up on wonder bread....didn`t eat well till I became a veggie.

I don`t buy the drug angle .

Life was slower for sure......but I don`t think kids know the difference.

Something is very different,tho.

Yes. They simply do not care.

You ought to see the scifi movie "Death Race 2000".

NuevaVida -> RE: Elementary school shooting. (12/14/2012 5:43:03 PM)

Well it was just a stab at what's different. When we were kids we didn't have GMO foods, or artificial sweeteners, or a myriad of other chemicals in our food that we have now. Again, I'm NOT saying this is the reason, just what has changed.

We weren't on Ritalin and Prozac as kids (for the most part).

I had a stay at home mom; most can't afford this anymore.

The most violent video game I played was Tank [:D]

Etc.

But CNN just reported that the shooter's brother told ABC news the shooter was autistic.

Your right, these things didn't happen back in the day. Society has degenerated into something that is desensitized to violence. Back in the day we didn't have graphically violent movies, video games or song lyrics. Much of the violence in this stuff is even glorified. We didn't have information overload, Internet and a gajillion TV shows on cable. When the nut cases crack they have way too many ideas to crack with.

I read that he was said to have Asperger's syndrome.

Perhaps he felt unloved by his mother and blamed her class for it. If so, I may have been wrong in my suspicions.

Good point. A journalist friend of a friend did a stint in Iraq a while back and came home deeply shocked by how many soldiers had told him that combat was "just like a video game."

Yeah but when you factor in drunks then they become far more leathal.

Soldiers are either malformed to kill by their training - or they were born that way already. That journalist friend of a friend must have been an innocent soul.

FR

The thread on Off-Topic is all cleaned up, and open for those who need to express themselves without any potential political overtones. I'm assuming that means those of us who deal with something like this by talking about what went wrong are free to do so here.

slvemike4u -> RE: Elementary school shooting. (12/14/2012 5:57:15 PM)

That was my assumption, despite the fact that even here folks were told to shush up.

That's the part I don't understand. What the fuck did these kids ever do to him. And the ones who survived will have to live with it for the rest of their lives. The whole thing is just fucked up.

Lucylastic -> RE: Elementary school shooting. (12/14/2012 6:01:23 PM)

that was before the thread in OT was put up.
have at it if you gotta... it was too much to hope for when I started this thread realy , and considering.... the anger im feeling right now, im gonna log off until tomorrow
