In the past, yes I have. I wouldn't today, though. I ask what motivated them to do something, and I give opinions on what I think may be better ways. I tell them I don't think that's good for them, and why. I have no reason to criticize people I love.

I have. I've also read the forum guidelines and the Administrative Announcements (where the no blacklisting rule and others can be found). Would I be qualified to know everything? Even I'm not egotistical enough to say that I would be. Do I have a pretty good batting average? Yes.

Funny how people are different...I can read the most mundane...boring...mind numbing technicalities in Photoshop for instance but my eyes fall shut and my fingers just will not press the mouse button to read TOS or admin announcements...But it is just something else to admire about you...

I reported the troll who messed up my fat poll. Instead of sending the troll a message to desist the mod pulled the whole poll and thread - and it was a very good thread and the poll was yielding interesting results.

Many years later one of the mods obliged me by retrieving the results of the poll, for which I am truly grateful; I still have those results on my computer.

In any case: that disaster taught me to never again report anyone.

I suspect that most reporting is done by racists.

I've reported pictures. Also personal attacks. And for a while there was a tendency for P & R types to try to post in PORS by using a poll as an excuse. Unfortunately they also brought the personal attacks which are acceptable in P & R to PORS. I not only reported that but wrote a mod begging that they keep an eye on this.

And of course wrong forum gets reported a lot.

I dont recall doing that, no.. my family thinks I am the weird one, starting when I was a kid (growing up on a farm) and I turned vegetarian (I could not eat my "pets").. I tend to find people dont listen and need to learn their own lessons.. The most i would do is make a suggestion the person should consider, but if that falls on deaf ears then i take the hint and let them find things out in due course on their own.. I dont like to butt into a persons business or become a "nag".. and I dont appreciate people making wrong assumptions about me and then criticising me cuz they dont know wtf they are talking about.. so I dont like to do that to anyone else either..

I sure have reported people, and will do it again whenever I feel the need to do so.

I currently only have 3 people on ignore, and it makes my collarme experience much better.

i haven't read through the whole thread, only part of it.

from the tickets thing in the corner i have never reported anyone. i have one person on block, and only because reading what they wrote was such a chore trying to work out what they were saying. also that person was inconsistant with what they were saying which to me suggests a liar. i hate liars so it's better for them to be out of sight, out of mind.

i don't get the mentality that you won't report someone for 'personally attacking' (and i use that term in the hugely loose way that it is applied on the site) yourself, but you will report someone you deem to be doing it to someone else. i don't see how you think you have the right to determine what is a 'personal attack' to someone else, and that they are not capable of reporting it for themselves should THEY see it that way.

i do get the illegal stuff and that is all cool, but on someone else's behalf? no, that's just interfering in someone else's use of the site. hence why i don't report people. as in real life; the people concerned are adults who can decide for themselves whether to be here or not. when they get in to a debate they can decide how to manage that. if they don't like what is going on then they can walk away from the keyboard, or report it themselves.

so as far as i'm concerned people i'd ask that you don't report anyone on my behalf because you may actually be spoiling my fun, and that of others. not only that, but most importantly i am a big girl, i can fight my own battles, and i'd actually find it quite insulting that you'd think i can't.

cheers peeps

In our family we always tell each other something is stupid or even that they are stupid. Not a big deal. We fight, we argue, we debate, kiss and make up and move on. No big deal. So we all don't agree and so we think each of us is stupid. That's their view....not the end of the world. We all think my oldest sister is an airhead. We've even told her at times when she is always, always late for stuff and always, always forgets to do something that we reminded her of 10 times. Yeah, she gets all whiney about it. We roll our eyes and everyone moves on. We're sisters. We've done worse to each other lol.

Several people posted why, so if you do choose to read the whole thread, maybe you will find answers to this question. Here's what I wrote previously:

I also pick up litter in my neighborhood when I see it, because I like to keep my community clean. Since I can't actually pick up the "litter" that is sometimes posted here, if I feel it's an over the top infraction I notify those who *can* clean it up. To help keep the place I visit free of debree. It is subjective, of course. Some people don't mind litter, or don't see things as litter. So they ignore it and move on. Some people like to clean it up. To each their own.

I'm not stepping in on anyone's behalf. I'm stepping in on my own behalf, which I'm entitled to do, given the tools available to me.

You wrote a few things in crazyml's "fuck off" thread:

"we all get to use the site, and if some arn't happy with certain aspects of how it's run they have the right to say so, whether you like it or not."

Can you accept this is our way of saying so?

Also:

"do you have any idea how belittling and dismissive of those people you are being with this thread? and i will include myself in those people seeing as i have complained about certain aspects of the moderation lately. not that i actually care what you think, think away, but don't try telling me, or anyone else that we should leave the site instead of putting our views over. "

I think your post above is dismissive of people who choose to use the report tool.

Why not - hey everyone just do what feels right to you? Is that too crazy a concept?

sorry NV but i don't see how picking up litter equates to reporting something that you personally are not involved in, and that you would not report if you were. that to me is being self righteous on someone else's behalf when that person can do it for themself. it's all well and good saying you are doing it for yourself, but in doing so it is then to the detriment of others who do want to follow what is going on. by picking litter up you are doing everyone a favour, and it's of no detriment to anyone. by hitting report you are acting only for some, but acting against others to their detriment.

i've seen the 'civil discourse' statement also bandied about, but again, one person's uncivil is another's civil. i see or hear it all the time. the language some people use constantly is appauling to me, but do i have the right to step in and say anything to them? no, it's how they speak. the only time i have spoken up about it is on a bus when i was sat with my son. however, here we are all adults.

i'm all for you reporting insults or 'personal attacks' against yourself, but when it's others that are involved, and they are quite happy with the way things are going on then you can just pass over it. there have been alot of posts pulled that i have been enjoying reading that suddenly go poof. you then get the people involved asking why. so by reporting something that you are not actually involved with, and could just pass over, you're are potentially spoiling things for others.

you may think my post is dismissive to those that do use the report button, but if you are doing it for something you are not part of then why spoil it for others. i pass stuff over all the time, it's really easy. i don't see why other's can't do it too when it takes absolutely nothing to do.

people are saying constantly that they are staying away from posting because they are sick of things getting pulled, or locked. i want to see full meaty threads, and at the mearest hint of that happening there is someone clicking report. bang, posts pulled, warnings given, threads locked. it makes the site become boring. i've seen it on other sites like this too.

my point to crazyml's thread is that he doesn't get the right to tell people to fuck off and leave the site just because he doesn't like what he's reading. i have not turned around to those that click report and said 'ya know people if you don't like the way the adults in here are posting why don't you fuck off and leave the site?' all i've suggested is that a) people don't do it against people on my behalf because i'm capable of doing it myself, b) just leave it and move on so the rest of us that want to read it can.

i have said all along to do as you wish for anything you see as a personal attack at you, or to do with legalities.

I'll try to keep it short and simple - you may or may not agree, no worries.

I come to CM to enjoy myself. It's my little neighborhood playground. I like this playground, and I'm OK with abiding by the rules of the playground. Personal attacks are not allowed in the rules of the playground. I don't want to have to deny myself playing on the jungle gym - or only playing on certain parts of the jungle gym, because other people aren't following the rules. The personal attacks affect my enjoyment of this site. I don't want to have to avoid threads or have to sift through post after post to get to the fun stuff. I find *that* to be an imposition on *me.*

Now, I realize this is not a perfect world and there's always going to be some sifting going on. But to me, posts containing personal attacks on others is litter. Litter that is against TOS. Why should I accept that imposition? You say "Why spoil it for others?" and I ask, isn't that what threads full of attacks are doing for readers who don't want to see that shit?

I don't like complete threads getting pulled either. But for as many people who say they avoid posting for that reason, they're telling just as many people "Hey just don't read the thread if you don't like it" - why spoil it for those who would like to be involved in a conversation but lose their taste for it because of people who choose not to disagree on a subject without following TOS?

To be clear, by personal attacks I'm talking about the kind of shit the hannah brigade used to pull. I haven't reported a post in a very long time, that I can recall.

As for:

"i have said all along to do as you wish for anything you see as a personal attack at you, or to do with legalities."

That's not your call to make. How bout, post any disagreement you want, but stay within TOS?

I respect where you're coming from, needles, I just don't agree with it entirely.
