It's not your choice to end the life of an animal that wants to live. It's not "meat" those are words to help you disconnect from what you are eating. Lamb, pigs, cows, all sentient beings being sent to slaughter full of terror knowing exactly what is in store for them. I can't believe I used to think it was ok to brutally slaughter someone not something for lunch. Still makes me sick. Oh and there is no such thing as humane slaughter, that;s about as legit as gentle rape of loving child molestation. Doesn't exist.

Their meat, milk and cheese is not ours.

Actually, since I don't slaughter my own animals for food, no it isn't my choice.  However, since my father was a butcher, while he didn't do the actual slaughter, he did cut the animals up.  I use the word "meat" because it is an accepted term.  I realize that it disgusts you, but I have no problem saying, "I want some cow."  And think about it, we call chicken chicken, so your theory of calling it meat to disconnect fails right there.  We also call fish, fish.

You do realize that other species are carnivorous as well, right?  Or is it that as intelligent beings, we can choose not to eat animals and a lion has no other choice but to kill the gazelle for food?

For the record, no animal expels cheese.  It is made from their milk, just like butter.

As I said, I couldn't care less about your choice to be vegan.  I have friends who are, and that's fine.  In fact when I was waiting tables, if a customer said they were vegan, I was polite enough to tell them about things on the menu that might have beef stock in them rather than serve it to them knowing they would never know.

What I didn't do, but I have no doubt you do is tell vegatarians or vegans that I think what they eat is disgusting simply because their choices are different than mine.

You think killing an animal for food is disgusting.  Great.  Don't do it.  But kindly have the courtesty to accept that others (like me) CHOOSE to eat cow, pig, lamb, fish, chicken and whatever other animal might be appetizing to us.  They aren't someONE, they are something.  That is the most ridiculous thing about vegans.  They seem to put the same value on animal life as human life.  Sorry, but if you look at the whole animals species, that simply is not the natural order of things.  If I remember correctly, you certainly aren't one who thinks the Darwin awards are silly.  That's all about survial of the fittest.  That's the circles of life.

So feel free to eat your vegetables.  I like vegetables.  With my meat.

You definitely have me thinking again. Thank you.

I would argue that it is humane. In Wisconsin in 2011, 228,629 deer were harvested (killed) in the 9 day deer hunting season. If these deer are not harvested, the state would be overrun. If they didnt get killed by deer/vehicle crashes they would starve to death. I might ad that many hunters donate the venison to food pantries in the state..

Wrong. Cheese and milk are as brutal as meat.

It's not your meat by the way. It's a living creature.

Please point out to me where I said that the way the animals are slaughtered is humane, cruel or makes me want popcorn. I made no mention of it at all.

Your link about cheese and milk was to a gaming web site. You can think that milk is "brutal" all you want. It isn't any different than a breast bump. As for cheese, it is a product of the milk, so really if you think the cow is all upset when they see you churning their milk into cheese and butter, you are mistaken. Once the milk leaves the cow's body, the cow isn't all that concerned about it anymore.

give it a year or two. Those branded will be regretting their brands lol.

Eeehh...I grew up on a farm, watched animals raised and slaughtered. Yup, it's gruesome but I never looked upon the animals as my pets. They were being raised to be slaughtered. I didn't see them as I do a human. I took eggs from chickens. They laid new ones right after. They seemed just fine to me. I milked cows. They actually seemed quite happy about it. Hell, when I was pregnant I was happy to get rid of the excess milk too lol. It friggin hurts if you don't! lol.

Yeah, I eat meat. I have no qualms with that. I have been vegetarian for a time as well but not because I don't like the way animals are treated but simply that I just don't eat a lot of meat and there are times I just get tired of eating meat so I stay away from it for a few months or even years until I get a hankering for it again.

I have friends who are vegans and vegetarians. I don't care if they are. That's their choice. Just don't think you're gonna get in my face about it or take away what I like to eat.

Master almost hit a baby deer two nights ago. Without deer hunting season, there would be dead deer all over the place from car accidents. Or maybe we should stop building roadways and homes for ourselves.

As for the whole branding, the video reminded me of porn I've seen lol. So it didn't really make me think vegan protest. It made me think, horny boys willing to do anything for a pretty young thang...even if she's in a hood.

FR

I know we've moved on from this thread, but something occurred to me this morning and I wanted to mention it here.

This past weekend, I participated in a "Penguin Plunge." I stripped down to a bathing suit and shorts in freezing weather (it was snowing, even) and jumped into the 40 degree ocean. It was ridiculous, but the money raised went for a good cause and...I've now earned bragging rights. :)

If you've never done it, let me assure you, it's quite stupid to do. We have to sign a waiver regarding the risk we are putting ourselves in and medical teams stand by on alert. The only things that made it somewhat palatable were the camaraderie among us as we geared up to do something idiotic together, and the bar, getting us good and liquored up at 10 AM on a Sunday morning. Many people look at what we did as dangerous or, at the least, kind of stupid. And they would be right.

But it garnered attention. It made the news. We could have had a walk-a-thon, but---yawn---that won't get the story. Same with this sort of protest. It is a spectacle, and an unnecessary one at that. Someone could just hand out pamphlets and put up a website to detail the horrors they're trying to impart. And I could have just donated $20 to the cause and slept in yesterday morning. But the spectacle gets the attention and raises awareness.
