hmmppf...

Has your doctor given you an suggestions on exercises that you might try?

I did find a few articles online that MIGHT be helpful.

ETA: I read a couple of the articles on the NFA site and they are really informative.

I'm naturally blessed with athleticism. I was a volleyball and soccer player, but tonight after basketball I actually feel like I got my butt kicked. I don't know what's been going on with my body lately. I think I must be fighting something off because I have just been achy lately. On the plus side of this all I'm down 6 pounds in the last 4.5 weeks.

Might be the chlorine. A lot of people I know with FM also have some chemical sensitivities.

My YMCA in Florida had saline-cleaned pools, which is better for me than chlorine.

I didn't know that.

My lil monster started doing push ups on the stairs yesterday when he walked up them, like I do. Later on he pulled up his shirt and said, " look at my abs." He doesnt' have abs but since he does a "ab exercises" he thinks he has abs.

I love that since May he has gotten excited about being healthy and eating healthy.

Hmmmmm interesting theory, I never thought chlorine might bother me. I am bothered greatly, by exhaust fumes, headache and VERY sick to my stomach, like within a few seconds.

On a happier note: I decided to put my ear buds in yesterday, turn to a 'dance' radio channel, and danced 'lightly' for 15 minutes.

The only negative so far is, one sore foot, because I was bare feet ... that'll teach me.

Dancing lightly is a good start!

You're supposed to wear shoes when you work out?
Hell I never wear shoes. Lol

Getting your body is a wonderful thing!
It's hard when you have physical conditions that give you the "excuse" to do nothing. You really do psych yourself out sometimes. I know I used to okay maybe I still do on some level with my knee. (my rt knee pops out) and I have a a pinched nerve in my back.

This is no joke.
When I 1st started my journey in May, I could only do 3-5 minutes of light work out. I was doing the Jackie Warner dvd, but I was taking more breaks and for my dumb bell presses or any other exercise that required weights I was using canned veggies instead of weights.

Eventually I got used to moving again, I got over my mental fears (I stayed aware of my restrictions) but I slowly have increased the intensity of my work out.

An idea for when you feel like kicking something. Sit on the edge of your couch or a chair, and kick your feet. Bring you foot straight out each time you kick.

************

My work out today I did my 5 minutes of jogging back and forth between my patio door and my dinning room on top of my other work out and it reminded me of why I used to hate running around the track and choose x-country. Lol

Let me get this out of the way first. An announcement. When I look down, I see tits! Not belly, just tits. OMG, when did that happen? I think I have a tiny bit of abdominal muscle tissue again under all that fat somewhere.

I want to get on the scales, but at the same time, I don't want this to be about the scales, yanno? This is about ME building MY atrophied muscles up again and getting more physically fit. (I've known thin people who couldn't do more than a few sit ups, much less keep up with me on the stairs.)

Eating is also an issue. I rarely eat more than once or twice per day when I'm home and keeping a food diary was more about making me more conscious of when I'm eating and what. Most of the time these past three weeks I have been eating three meals per day, yay, even if my third meal (lunch) is just an orange. An old friend told me that to help our metabolism recover we should nibble something every 2-3 hours...I tried to do this but there was just no way I could eat that many times per day. Even just a hand full of grapes or peanuts. Changing how many times per day I eat is much rougher than changing what I eat.

TheLittleSquaw, killing myself to stick to it for three minutes was ego busting. I couldn't believe it, I knew I was out of shape but THAT out of shape??? My slave can do the program for an hour, so can Penny. I made up for it by doing 3 or 4 reps. The last one I did...took me six minutes before I wanted someone to shoot me. I only did one more rep later of four minutes. If I had to watch some thin chick leaving me way behind in her dust, or so limber that she could twist her body up like a pretzel while saying, "Do this", my "kill it" button would be pushed, lol. It's good to be copying a woman who has some THIGHS on her so I don't feel so bad.

About the sit down and kick exercise. Maybe someday. The muscles and ligaments on the front of my right knee are so bad that...sitting, I cannot raise my right leg more than about 3 or 4 inches before the agony stops me. Lifting my knee up while standing is more workable. So is using a different muscle group when I'm lying down on my bed and kicking. I look forward to the time when I can kick while sitting. I might need surgery first though. When I say I tore something up, I really mean it, lol. The last time I broke my leg (my right one), I shattered it and bone came through my inside calf. I have two steel plates and screws.

I've got to go shopping and pay bills tonight before dark, as I'm having electrical problems with my car (something is shorting/grounding/whatever and I have no tail lights nor license plate lights). I get so worn out by shopping, even when I use a battery operated cart, that I cannot imagine doing exercises when I get home. I'm usually very sore and my right leg is tight (edema due to past cancer surgeries that removed all of my lymph nodes there).

Because of this thread...I will try to force myself to do the exercising anyway.

Cynthia,

A few months ago I went to put on one of my favorite corsets which I only wore 1x before and it literally feel off me. I was pissed because well it was expensive and I only wore it once but I was like... "um when the fuck did this happen?" Lol

I only get on the scale at the scale 1x a mth and I make sure that isn't the week before or after my period. When I was going through my 5 week detox, I got on before and I didn't get on again for 7 weeks. I was told to take measurements the same day, and that the measurements would tell me more than the scale. Which I have found to be VERY true.

Even my tits have gotten smaller!
Not a huge amount, but enough to where my bra's aren't fitting like I like them. Lol
Hell none of my clothes fit anymore, which is a wonderful thing but man I freak'n hate clothes shopping.

I was told by both my doctor and primary (who has worked as a physical trainer) to eat every 3 hours and to make sure I get enough calories, fat, ect. It was sad. I honestly never made it a habit of reading labels before. Now I do.

I understand about ego busting when you realize how out of shape you are but you can't let that beat you up. This is a starting point and even if you only go from 3 minutes to five THAT is an improvement.

I didn't put on this weight over night, it took me almost 5 years.
I didn't get this out of shape over night.
And I have to tell myself that all the time.

Re-injuring yourself or aggravating an old injury is always something you want to avoid it sets you back mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I am glad that this thread is encouraging to you.

***

As a side note, I had started a high protein diet 2 wks ago and after a lot of battling within myself, I've realized I can't do it. Not because I can't but because for the 1st time in a very long time I have begun listening to my body and I can't start ignoring it again and the risk isn't worth it for me so I am going back to eating vegetarian or flexatarian.

Cynthia I am so proud of You!!!! Way to go!! I am now up to almost 10 miles or more a day now...It is Leslie Sansone and the link I sent on Fet the other day is very very fast but works...Just got 3 more of her dvds all 4 and 5 miles with strength training and pilates, but You know I do everything from pilates, yoga to kickboxing and everyone can tell the definition and inches...rather lose inches than pounds. I am so close to wearing a 4/6 it is not even funny. :-) That was my goal...just one less dress size. When I was diagnosed I was told that I would never walk on my own again and well 11 years later I am running!!! :-) I have thought about becoming one of Leslie's walkers instructors in the local/surrounding areas to help others.
I found some work-outs for You to do as well. I'll send them.
Love ya!!

Okay, I officially hate you now, lol.

Seriously now, thanks for starting this thread. I will try to check in once or twice per week with progress reports, especially when my sit down exercises arrive.

I've just finished 14 straight minutes of that walking link thingy Penny gave to me and bo. At about 11 or 12 minutes into it I have to stick with the lower level stuff or else I'll fall on my butt. I've stacked some tubs of yarn close to my walkway, something to grab onto in case I start to have an oops. Hasn't happened yet though.

My right knee (the worst one) only pops out a few times per day and it's uncomfortable but not agonizing. Yay! All of that on 12-14 minutes per day of exercising.

I am trying to eat more often per day and am showing more improvement. In the past nine days I only forgot to eat three times per day just once. I was tired and ate only twice. This week I am keeping red bell peppers and oranges as handy snack foods, but so far I am only managing to squeeze them into a meal or use as a meal substitute. In another week or two I might add a snack onto three meals. Maybe before another year is out I'll be eating something healthy every three hours I'm awake.

I cannot wait until the cantaloupe I bought the other day ripens enough to cut into. I haven't bought one of those in a year or two. My next birthday present to myself will be putting together an indoor greenhouse so I can have a steady supply of lettuces of all types, as well as some herbs like parsley, oregano, and some garlic (I like to snip some of the greens and use in spaghetti sauce).

Oh Pennnnnnnnnnny...I hate you too, lol. Never in my life have I been close to a 4 or 6. The closest I've gotten was sizes 14 and 16.

I had a coworker say to me yesterday, You know if you eat, the pants will fit. Seriously?! I eat all the time! I just eat things that are healthy. Yes, my pants are starting to get big, but I can't go buy new ones every time I drop five pounds!! I will be broke. I just wanted to say to her, yeah I get it. I wasn't seriously over weight when I started and I have dropped some weight, but I want to be healthy and fit.

Cynthia,
I pre-cook a lot of things.
Hell, what ever possible.
That way I can repackage it and reheat it when I need / want it.
When I precook and freeze things.
I include, what is in the bag, how much of each item (I measure everything) and the calorie break down.

That way when I pull it out, I know exactly what I am getting.

During the summer, when more veggies are available local I wash and chop all of my salad and stir fry stuff and bag it prior to use.
That way I just grab and go.

I admit, when I 1st started eating. I had sticky notes where I would see them periodically so I wouldn't forget to eat. Since THAT was my issue.

Food suggestion, onion and mushrooms together at least 1x per day. There are proven health benifits.

lmpishlilhellcat,

NONE. Of my clothes fit me right anymore.
I finally broke down and bought 2 pair of pants and a new bra a month ago because I literally had nothing to wear that fit. Execpt sun dresses and it is to damn cold for all of that. And I had to have something holding the girls in place. Lol

However, I refuse to go out and buy anymore at this point.

My body is changing so drastically and clothes are expensive.

My size 4x are way too loose on me and the 3x are starting to get that way. I am tempted to get a friend to take in the pants so I won't have to buy new clothes.

I am hovering around 270. Considering that I was 325, that is a lot of weight lost. I want to get back down to 235 but I have to deal with a thyroid problem and it is winning so far.

I also have fibromyalgia and walking or standing for any extended length of time causes problems. I do try to get on the exercise bike for 10 minutes at a time but I am scared of flaring up the fibro. I hate taking pain killers.

Do those of you with fibromyalgia find that swimming is helpful?

I have a good friend who has fibro, and lately she's become very distressed about her weight gain. I thought that joining a gym with a pool would be helpful- it is for me- but she has doubts.

Congratulations!

That is a huge weight loss PERIOD yet alone with thyroid issues.
