I'm glad I'm not the only one. I often have a lot of problem getting onto the forums. It depends what time of day it is. Server problems perhaps ?

It happened to me so often lately I thought I'd been temp banned! Repeatedly. Okay not really but it's annoying.

I haven't had a single hiccup since I joined with my first ID.... not a single one! Could it be other factors that have nothing to do with the forums? Problems with the ISP for instance??

75% of the time on my iPhone, 40% of the time on the laptop. i've been wondering if it's a mac versus windows issue, so which browser do al y'all use?

I haven't had any problems for a long time; though I do seem to recall that there was a problem a couple of months ago. I use the Google Chrome browser.

All 9 are PC's with various hardware - no laptops. All but two are Intel, the other two are AMD. All are home-built, none are "off the shelf" PC's. All have nVidia graphics cards of one sort or another. There's an odd FX5700 and a GF6200 but the rest are GF8400 or above. All have 2GB of Ram or more. All are running XP Pro Corporate Edition with SP3. Browser is IE8 - we don't use anything else. All connected via a HomePlug or 16/24 port routers on a home (wired) network. There's an odd 5-port router on the other desk. We don't use wireless or WiFi connections. Link to the outside world is via a single ADSL2 modem to our ISP. Totaly solid connection, never had a problem unless it was the individual site. And I've never had a single hiccup with CM, ever - yet. [:)]

I use Safari on my iPhone and have more problems connecting than I do on my laptop using IE.

Problems. More lately. But hit the key in 15 seconds or 15 minutes and it will probably work. I select all/copy before I post, but that isn't just here.

cable internet, chrome, IE and Opera, happens on all of them altho IE has been quicker when it was bad. If I get frustrated I usually go to the collarme side and open from there This week has been good so far

From my end it appears to be server issues or connection issues on the server end. I think this because when 've had trouble I went to www.DownForEveryoneOrJustme.com www.collarme.com is usually up but www.collarCHAT.com is usually down when I check.

I've been blaming Chrome, and our, "too far from the ghetto," internet connection, but switching over to IE has been getting me right in, when Chrome tells the page can't be found.

OK, here's why I know it's not your browser (the short version) Your browser sends a request to the OS for a DNS lookup. The operating system is in charge of sending a request to the DNS server to translate "www.collarchat.com" into 72.13.91.174. Your browser then sends a message to the OS for a connection to 72.13.91.174:80 with a standard HTTP CONNECT. The server responds with a string of text in HTML (which may or may not include JAVA, FLASH or what have you) or it responds with an error code or it doesn't respond at all. Because I used a separate server (www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com) which uses, presumably, different DNS servers, and a different line it is suggests that, assuming a backbone isn't down, that it is the server or the connection to the server that is down. Because I can reach "down for everyone" I know that my connection is alive and kicking. I also know that my browser hasn't had a brain fart. Since I usually have between 10 and 20 pages open at a time I just go somewhere else for 15-20 minutes. This can be caused by a lot of things. My top two guesses are: the server is reaching it's limits as to the database technology employed or someone is spamming the server hard at times and clogging the connection. My next two guesses are memory or drive fragmentation. Bear in mind that I have no idea what OS/DB/Webserver is being used here, nor do I know what hardware it is running on. These are just guesses as to why it goes down. This isn't the proper venue (or forum, if you will) for an in depth discussion on the technicalities.

A large BDSM site recently closed and another well known site is having legal problems which is causing a bit of an exodus. I have noticed a fairly large influx of new members here in the last few weeks which is good if only we have enough server space.
