This is so terrible. And so pointless....innocent people killed and injured and maimed.

And I do feel the same way about this as I did about people using those poor children less than 25 hours after Sandy Hook. Though I do understand why there are a couple of people here who would like to point out the hypocrisy of getting up in arms about using this after using Sandy Hook. That being said.....the real focus here should be on those hurt people and their families.

I do hope that they find out who is responsible and that those people are dealt with strongly. Even if they belong to a group we haven;t always made nice with....innocent people were blasted today, and they did NOT deserve to die.

Saudi National Apprehended

Investigators have a suspect — a Saudi Arabian national — in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned. Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital. It was not immediately clear why the man was hospitalized and whether he was injured in the attack or in his apprehension... In addition, Boston police have has surveillance video of someone bringing multiple backpacks to blast site, according to CBS News.

Injury count now at 49. Fatalities are still listed as 2 according to CNN.

CNN just said 100. They said because there are multiple hospitals, the count has been slow coming in.

http://www.necn.com/04/15/13/Official-Cellphone-service-shut-down-in-/landing.html?blockID=837811&feedID=11106
WASHINGTON (AP) - A law enforcement official says cellphone service has been shut down in the Boston area to prevent any potential remote detonations of explosives.

Authorities have not identified what caused the explosives that erupted at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

The reports of the Saudi national are false. Do not believe the Post.

The reports of the man with the backpacks are accurate.

Overdue for this? Really? WTF kind of comment is that? We should never be "overdue" for something as horrible as this, it shouldn't be something that is expected! And I will apologize right now if I come off bitchy in my response, but I live not far from Boston and I have friends that were running the marathon so it's been a stressful afternoon. The only saving grace is that my friends and family there are safe and my heart aches for those that weren't so lucky [:(]

I agree with you, that was a horribly insensitive thing to say. Since when did we start expecting the regular, or occasional bombing anywhere?

Mass General has 22 victims. 8 are in surgery and injuries are described as "traumatic amputations"

Hillwilliam -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 2:40:31 PM)

Now the police are saying the JFK library incident was just a mechanical room fire. Give em 5 minutes and they'll change their mind again.

I'm just playing Devils advocate here.

Much as I agree with your sentiments, when your countrymen go poking their nose into other countries business, kill, maim and blow up their people, send drones out to kill possibly one man and end up killing dozens of innocent women and children.... What else did you really expect??

Did you shed so many tears and felt so repulsed when the Afghans and Pakistanis were murdered and maimed many times by US troops and drones?
I bet you didn't.
You feel such remorse, horror and anger because it's fellow Americans on home soil.

I'm not saying it's wrong.... But just put the boot on the other foot for a second.
They are just retaliating for things that were done to them by the US.
And I don't think it takes much thinking about who the purpetrators were.

I see this all too often from a major proportion of Americans on here and other sites.
It seems it's ok to push your own politics and tread on other people around the world, then gasp in OMG shock horror that sometimes you get blasted back by those you trod on.
Did you really expect them to lay down and just take it?

I am sometimes bewildered at the US state of mind and attitudes.

TallullahHk -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 2:44:35 PM)

The entire city is in chaos. I wouldn't expect 100% accuracy for at least a few hours.

Sorry if it came across as insensitive. My heart aches for the dead, the wounded, and the ones who have to deal with the slowly unfolding nightmare we're watching right now. I stand by my words, we have been very, very, very lucky so far. Up until this afternoon, we could all go to a mass spectator event knowing that, for the most part, nothing like this would ever happen.
A few months ago, at the range I go shoot at, we had a guest who was an instructor for an advanced shooting class in the area. He was an Israeli, and he remarked at how surprised he was to see how little we seem to be aware of how easy it is for an attack like this. He remarked about things like how the trashcans could be used to conceal explosives, how easy it would be to park large trucks near significant numbers of people, stuff like that. Nice fella, wasn't condescending at all, just surprised at how lassez-faire we are considering our position in the world.

Call me insensitive, call me a jerk. I don't care. I am only pointing out the obvious here.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 2:48:10 PM)

Let's just hope they learned from the Atlanta bombing and they don't just grab some guy and railroad him while the perp slips off.

Not saying a drone attack is great thing or any civilian death is justified....but there is a difference. We don't drop a bomb on a soccer stadium just to kill civilians, such as an attack like this. Are we doing stuff abroad that may instigate an attack? Yes. Is this kind of attack justified in any sense? No.

If they were specifically going after an official and had some collateral damage, that is an apples to apples comparison.

This is just spineless, pointless, and hateful. Plain and simple.

So really you are just saying we Americans should be apathetic towards an attack like this? Would you feel that way if your kin were attacked? I don't think so.

Got to love the classy responses of the reactionaries.

My thoughts are with the victims and their friends and families.

No, there is just a contingent of Brits who are very anti-United States. It's getting old to be honest.

FunCouple5280 -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 3:08:59 PM)

I don't know what to think,

I can't believe people went to politics before a single body was cold.....

I am really just speechless about the whole event.

So sad

The instructor you talked about reminds me of the 9/11 bombers. Came here and took flying lessons. Sorry, our borders need to be closed, especially to those countries that have issues with us. Does that come off as racist? Maybe. But I think it is more nationalist.

Guerilla warefare is just that that - the killing of as many of the opposite side as possible with minimal death to your comrades.
And that's just how those people think.
The drones are indiscriminant and kill many innocent people with virtually no warning.
That's not much different to a car bomb or something similar.
Those 22 innocent Afghans killed at the Pakistan border could just as easily be described as "spineless, pointless, and hateful" just as many drone attacks with no apparent target.
I don't call that 'collateral damage'.
You twist the words to suit yourself without looking at the bigger picture.

I didn't say appathetic - you did.
I'm just saying you need to be a little more realistic in these things - not apathetic.

And as it happens, I do think just like this.
If the UK (as it has) done just as much damage as the US then I don't flinch when some of ours are killed in mindless bombings over here.
We treat them like worthless shit when we kill their people so I don't expect anything different in retaliation.
The methods may be different but the result is the same.
