With the exception of the second grade Teacher in Chicago hanging a plaque of the 10 Commandments on the wall of her class room... Heaven forbid a Teacher hang a Christian plaque in a public school... Or a Judge in his courtroom

And yet you claim to have taken a sacred oath to protect and defend the costitution of the u.s....don't you find this position to be more than a little two faced?

Wouldn't that full under the "free exercise" portion?

Please show me the "free exercise" part of the ammendment that seperates church and state that applies to this specious thinking.
Any moron may post what ever they think their imaginary friend would approve of in their own home but not in a taxpayer supported entity.

Look at the first clause there. The Anti-Establishment Clause. It doesn't infringe on anybody's free exercise of religion to prevent the placing of the 10 Commandments in a place where people of all religious creeds will be forced to see it. It does, however, tend toward establishing some version of Christianity as the state religion.

ETA: Think of it this way. I assume you're Christian (if not...try to pretend)? What if judges wanted to post the 5 Pillars of Islam in courtrooms, or teachers wanted to post them in school? Would you object to that? Wouldn't a Muslim feel the same way about the 10 Commandments? Why should they be made to feel that way in a public entity that is, after all, supposed to represent them as well?

Um, isn't barring someone from displaying a plaque with a Christianity-based theme infringing on that someone's right to freely exercise his/her chosen religion?

On their personal property, yes it would be. Anyone can put the commandments in their yard.

On public property that I helped pay for, no.

Is it a crossing of the Amendment, then, for government to bar a religious organization from erecting a structure on public land?

If they want to erect a religious structure, they can do it on their own land, not mine.

Jefferson's neighbour wasn't using his God (or Gods) as a tax dodge or an excuse for a government handout back when he said that, though. Things have changed a bit since.

So why are you using a two hundred year old quotation as a justification for actions that Jefferson would have found abhorrent?
That isn't even sophistry: it's blatantly deceitful.

Odd that I have yet to hear even one "muslim cleric" speak out against the jihad extremists.
If they are not all jihadists ,........why is that?

That might have something to so with the dark, warm place your head generally resides. Must be hard to hear much of anything in that position.

For Paladins edification

the two wanna be terrorists that were caught in Canada planning a al Qaeda-supported attack against a passenger train traveling between Canada and the United States were turned in by an Iman in the local community

he spoke out...maybe not in the way that YOU wish, but he DID something that has got these two assholes jailed, without hurting anyone

I'm not using it as a justification for anything... just a reminder that what people believe is not the problem. I don't car if someone is Christian, Muslim, Hindu, etc. So long as they respect the rights of others, their belief will not harm me in any way. So go ahead and build a mosque on Ground Zero, go ahead and proclaim that the world is only six thousand years old and homosexuals will burn in hell. So long as they don't try to build that mosque on my front lawn, so long as they don't try to shove that creationism crap into a science class or assault a person because they don't approve of their bed partners... we will get along just fine.

True enough, but the thrust of this thread is stuff that's moved from "belief" to "entitlement from ceiling cat" long since, isn't it?

They were wanting to put up a mosque not a memorial to the jihadist. So unless you believe that all muslems are jihadist your post does not make any sense cuz.

IIRC, it was a Sufi mosque, too, who are basically peace-loving mystics. Jihadists hate Sufis, and there have been terrorist attacks on their mosques in the Middle East.

Nope. And if the New York mosque was going to be built in a public park at the taxpayer expense, the government would have a right - even an obligation - to stop it. But on private property at private expense, than yes, it would be crossing the line for the government to prevent it.
