ORIGINAL: subrob1967 quote:
ORIGINAL: Hillwilliam Regarding those who wanted to prevent the building of the mosque. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" Nuff said With the exception of the second grade Teacher in Chicago hanging a plaque of the 10 Commandments on the wall of her class room... Heaven forbid a Teacher hang a Christian plaque in a public school... Or a Judge in his courtroom Look at the first clause there. The Anti-Establishment Clause. It doesn't infringe on anybody's free exercise of religion to prevent the placing of the 10 Commandments in a place where people of all religious creeds will be forced to see it. It does, however, tend toward establishing some version of Christianity as the state religion. ETA: Think of it this way. I assume you're Christian (if not...try to pretend)? What if judges wanted to post the 5 Pillars of Islam in courtrooms, or teachers wanted to post them in school? Would you object to that? Wouldn't a Muslim feel the same way about the 10 Commandments? Why should they be made to feel that way in a public entity that is, after all, supposed to represent them as well?
