See, he really did, he did not say that the Muslims were excluded from this!

Many have said that the modern version of the Republican party would exclude Reagan the man even a they venerate his memory.

WantsOfTheFlesh -> RE: Ronald Reagan betrayed the Republicans!!! (4/29/2013 6:01:12 AM)

reagan rightly said all folks should be free to worship or not so it kinda leads to tha question are any leading republicans saying islamic worship should be banned in america?

There have been times when some in the Republican Party have opposed things simply based on the thing being Islamic. For instance, the furor over a mosque being erected near the WTC.

That wasn't only republicans, if it was, the Mosque would have been built. republicans hold zero political capital in NY.

I wasn't making the claim that it was only Republicans. I was simply using it as an example of something Islamic that Republican leaders opposed.

They were wanting to put up a mosque not a memorial to the jihadist. So unless you believe that all muslems are jihadist your post does not make any sense cuz.

it is being built. The piece of one of the planes found last week was found by a surveyor doing site prep for it.

Interesting tin foil reading about that, too, Ken. I find it curious that this was found a mere 11 years after the event.

My problem with the Mosque was not that they didn't have the right to build it where they wanted (they absolutely did), but that it was in poor taste and disrespectful to build it where they wanted, particularly if their stated goal was to build bridges. I also took issue if they received any government funds while the Orthodox church that was demolished by the towers falling (after standing for about 100 years) was being blocked from being rebuilt.

Regarding those who wanted to prevent the building of the mosque.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

How is it disrespectful? Unless you believe that all muslims are jihadist? If it had been destroyed by irish catholic terrorist would you be against a catholic church being built there?

Ther stated goal was to build a mosque not a bridge[8|]

Why would a church recieve government funds?
Were the muslims the ones blocking the rebuilding of the orthodox church from being rebuilt?

Does the right to free speech give you the right to say whatever you want wherever you want to say it?

I got in a lot of arguments over the proposed mosque site. My only contention to it was it's placement. I didn't give a flying fuck if they built another mosque (iirc, it was reported that there are an awful lot of mosques near there already). Preventing this mosque wouldn't have prevented anyone from the free exercise of their chosen religion.

I just didn't like the location of it, considering the timing of it. Someone mentioned the Japanese building something across from Pearl Harbor. Had it happened during WWII, I'm sure it wouldn't have gone over very well, but now? Totally different time.

i believe no such thing. 1.2 billion jihadists would be armageddon. point is tha attacks were made in tha name of islam & many islamic leaders express very intense hatred of tha US so tha two are not unconnected.

Very different time.
For a start the Japanese population of America aren't all in internment camps, so it's a lot more possible for them to build something than it was between '41 and '45.

Phydeaux -> RE: Ronald Reagan betrayed the Republicans!!! (4/29/2013 12:32:40 PM)

The third holiest (putatively, now) mosque in Islam is the mosque in Jerusalem. 100 years ago it was a mosque in disrepair of no import.

Symbols matter. To jihadi's (and other moslems) that mosque is a symbol of inevitable victory of the uma. The conquering of the jewish and christian holy sites - and that is the only reason that mosque is important.

And its the same reasons moslems wanted to build a mosque near ground zero. Because inch by inch the muslims make progress.

Moonhead -> RE: Ronald Reagan betrayed the Republicans!!! (4/29/2013 12:36:58 PM)

Nothing to do with the quarter of a million odd Arabs, and thousands more muslims of other flavours to be found in New York, and the fact that there was a mosque in the WTC when it got knocked down, then.

I'm certainly happy that you're capable of reading the minds of 1.2 billion Muslims simultaneously. It's a worthwhile talent and the NSA or CIA has need for you.

The problem is this
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
If you want to wipe your ass with the Constitution, feel free.

Common now cuz... me and thee and most folks with a three digit iq and a pulse believe that those folks acted in the name of "get your cock out of my ass and leave me the fuck alone"Your post seems to indicate that you think it is some sort of religious thing...I think you are mistaken.
