The only time I was ever at Ft. Knox was as a visitor. I don't know why they're so touchy, it's not like our gold is still there. They keep the aliens from Area 51 there, now.

Gold doesn't just disappear surely, the authorities have got it somewhere, you can't have a monetary system based on lies. I wasn't trying to be ironic there, by the way.

Our money hasn't been backed by gold since Nixon ('73?). Our money is backed by the (G)ross (N)ational (P)roduct. It's one of the reasons our economy is in the toilet. We produce very little, anymore.

Churchill tried to re introduce the Gold Standard back in the 50s, it nearly crippled us. I think a problem you have with your economy, as opposed to the problems we have with ours, is that since the oil producing nations have turned to the Euro as a means of exchange, a hell of a lot of empty Dollars have been flooding back to the USA. You guys have been exporting Dollars in the hope they never come back... unfortunately....

There is a maxim in the UK, manufacture or die, you're right. We are service economies, we need to produce stuff.
