ARIES83 -> What would be the perfect day/night out with your significant other? (6/17/2013 10:53:09 PM)

If you have a memory of a particularly romantic event which made you swoon, or if you have a dream evening which you fantasise about...
What would be your perfect romantic/lovie dovie activity?

Please keep the details to respectable level, as I'm not really interested in your perfect "porno evening" [:o]

Is it dinner and a show? A picnic and a stroll? A Bubble bath and Barry White?

Best night out that I remember was a "ghost hunt." A ghost supposedly haunts the old cavalry fort north of town, so I took my high school girl friend up there with a picnic dinner and had a great time. Granted she was a bit unnerved about the stories and the alleged ghost, but it was still a nice evening.

Barry White low in the background... a nice meal by candle light... curling up to snuggle on the couch afterwards, sharing wine and desert, small chit chat....

Just us time.

First, since I do not want to take the trouble to google Barry White, who is he?

Candlelight I can understand, but it is not really my style due to the fact that sometimes I have trouble seeing in low light, I actually have great nightvision, just have problems with dim lighting.

But your idea sounds like a nice evening, especially the "us" time.

I do hope you have someone in your life to share those types of evenings with, it would be a real shame if you didnt.

This family often has what we call "freeze moments". Meaning, when everything is perfect in the universe, we say "freeze". That happens a lot around here. Normally it'll be when we are having fun at the gun range, out having dinner, or something similar. But I'd have to say my favorite moment is going I be when we go to Miami for vaca. We are planning to rent a yacht for the day. Some dinner and the ocean on a Yacht, with my Hubby and the brat...definitely a freeze moment.

We will pretend that wasn't asked.

I am sorry that the only music I listen to is rock and roll from the mid sixties through the early 90's, with the exception of Celtic folk music, or music performed in a traditional Celtic style.

The only Barry White I actually know played center on my high school football team. Last I heard, he was a guest of the Federal Government and would be for another ten or so years. I mean all he did was divert funds using creative book keeping, which including a few strategic changes in production costs on a government project his employer was working on.

Now for mood, I would suggest some of the rock ballads from the mid eighties.

Time to explore your musical horizon. [:D]

If you'll forgive me for being a total geek here - the ancient Greeks had a wonderful word for those moments: 'kairos'

From wikipedia:
Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time between, a moment of indeterminate time in which something special happens.

I think it expresses so perfectly those moments where time almost seems to stand still because the moment is so joyful and emotionally satisfying.

Sorry for the derail Aries.

One of my favourite memories is when we got to spend a single day in Florence, just walking hand in hand in the sunshine, something beautiful and awe inspiring around every corner.

If I got to choose my perfect day I've always wanted to go swimming off a boat in some secluded lagoon, then dinner on the shore-front and a long barefoot walk across the beach after sunset. Cliche, but I still hope to do it one day.

We live it once a year, every year now for the past eleven. First, we go for a long roundabout ride through the country and then stop at our favorite restaurant. Dinner is always crab legs for her, surf & turf for me, and then we head down to the county fair. We make sure to come later, after the bulk of the families with kids are gone, and stroll the midway, have a little snack, and then hang out until closing time. Then we take another ride out to this little spot we know were we lay on our backs and count the shooting stars until the sun starts to come up.

Anything involving water or a blanket for me. Just sitting on the beach, taking a walk, late night swim, even floating down a lazy river holding hands (which was fun until an hour later I discovered I was as red as a lobster). I love the fourth of July because it usually involves a picnic on a blanket and laying together watching fireworks.

The strange thing is, now having kids, those are not typical date nights but times we spend with the kids. Date nights, when we get them, are usually spent doing some sort of fun activity. Almost time to act kid-like ourselves.

Good lord, we've been together close to 14 years, it's hard to pick just one.

We've had great nights going to see blues bands. Great nights where we had a romantic dinner with a view of the San Diego skyline. There was our first real date where he ate Chinese food even though he hates it because he knew it was my favorite. There have been nights where we have just sat by the fire, talked, drank wine and listened to music.

I truly enjoy just being with him.

For us, the perfect evening is spent over a camp fire out in the wilderness, cooking over the fire (yes, I do stuff cornish hens and roast them in the coals), sipping tea, listening to the wildlife and pointing out birds or other creatures. Watching the sun set. Maybe a a moonlight stroll to get firewood, followed by cuddling together in the tent.

But then I'm a cheap date.

I also like going out to dinner, good live music (a blues or jazz band) and who doesn't like strolling barefoot along the beach?

Remote cabin, wood stove, bed in the loft surrounded by treetops, no neighbors, Baileys, Boggle, and books. And rain. Lots of rain. :)
