And this is where you are not only offensive but full of crap. Did you ever stop to consider there are legitimate reasons for SYG laws. It's mainly because pompous ass anti gun idiot prosecutors will go after people involved in clearly justified shootings. Ya know anyone like that ? That's either a lie or your reading comprehension is severely lacking.

You asked if I had ever shot anyone and I replied that I was quite close. You then came back with something about going outside. My reply was that the tactical situation made it necessary to go outside.
By the way, one of those gentlemen may have been a mental defective. We'll never know will we?

I still would like to know if you have those superpowers you seem to ascribe to others.

You know. The ability to know the intelligence, intentions and what everyone within 20 meters of you is carrying?

I've asked 3 times now.

So, quit fucking lying and answer a direct question.

On the Zimmerman thing we'll just have to disagree. I was against the race baiters crawling out from under their rocks and lynching in the press not to mention the anti gun types making up their own shit and stating it as fact. That aside, show me where I have ever stood up for a killer. I know, you can't.

The thread got locked. I had not spotted any personal attacks, but I think the gun nuts reported some of my own posting as offensive. One of my conclusions was that the shooters in the recent cases were all cowards and that gun owners are cowards too.

Heretic said that some day "you might be facing the barrel of a gun," as if that's a reason to own a gun. Well, my answer is, I still don't want a gun, and I have huge confidence that I can de escalate a confrontation and end any encounter with no one being shot.

Hillwilliam was making an absurd comparison between his experience after a hurricane and the homeowner in question who shot his victim under no extraordinary circumstances at all.

Next, responders accused me of "not shooting an old man with Alzheimer's" as "hindsight thinking." No, this is just a fact because I don't rely on guns for my protection. Also, I would never use deadly force against against a "perceived threat," I would only use it against an actual threat. If there's some kind of actual threat I would l'd de-escalate it. I have had a guy come at me with a baseball bat, dealt with someone who broke into my home, and been in some skirmishes. A gun in any of those scenarios would have been stupid.

It does not sit well with me that several respondents regarded the shooting as a "clean" and "justified." Owner really had the best retort to that.....

Was happy to see KD, who I think owns a gun , declare this shooting as absolutely wrong.

Last: not one gun nut could respond to the the built in lying that SYG laws will promote in shootings. The shooter of this old man merely claimed the man with dementia "was coming at me" with "what I thought was a gun, but was actually a flashlight." We can now count on every murder to have a similar perceived threat in play. With a dead witness, the shooter can make up any story he wants.

Once again you leave out one important fact.
Hendrix warned him three times to stop.
That means he had 5 chances not to get shot.
1 he could have not gone there
2 he could have left when told
3 he could have stopped after the first warning
4 he could have stopped after the second warning
5 he could have stopped after the third warning

I think you are afraid to defend yourself.
That you project this spinelessness on gun owners.
And that you then try to pretend that your fear of firearms somehow makes you morally
superior to those of us who will defend ourselves.

(1) First of all, your reply above was to KD. I never asked you anything.

(2) You wanted to impeach his claim that waiting for the police was a valid option. To impeach that claim you said:

FR to the "The police will handle it crowd." (Notice how this is not in response to a question from me.) I once had a bullet come thru the front window when I lived in miami. Inside lights off, outside lights on, weapons off safe, 911 called. FORTY-FIVE FUCKING MINUTES LATER. An unarmed "civilian auxillary" shows up.
She wouldn't look at the bullet hole because she was scared of a fucking SPIDER WEB and this is what is gonna protect me? If you think the police will protect you, I have a bridge you might be interested in buying.
(Post 93)

I apologize, I thought this happened on the same night as your Katrina post. (#95) I, however, stand by my claim that your overall "contribution" to the subject was ludicrous.

My response: no bullet came through this shooter's window. This shooter was not in a state of heightened alert because of looters after a hurricane.

You are 100% WRONG to compare either situation with the fact pattern of the Dementia Victim. Next, a normal, well adjusted person would not have shot a 70 year old man suffering from dementia and carrying a flashlight. A normal person would have said, "hello, can I help you?"

Relying on firearms is a problem, not a solution. The evidence on this assertion is clear and unequivocal. Firearms make people less safe. Misuse of firearms combined with SYG laws and lying sacks of shit will add to the death toll we've seen.

I don't need superpowers to know if another person is armed, all I will know is I'm unarmed and I will not escalate a confrontation into violence. Guns are for cowards (and I should add: bullies.)

TABOR CITY - A gunshot wound to the left hand had Tabor City Police Department officers searching for a shooter on Reese and Queen streets and on to Carolina Road this afternoon, before the victim admitted to accidentally shooting himself in the hand, Chief Donald Dowless said.

William Antwan Gaskins, 21, was taken by Tabor City Emergency Services ambulance to McLeod Loris hospital from his home in the 100 block of Reese Street with an injury that did not appear to be life threatening, Dowless said.

Gaskins initially told police he was shot on a trail through a wooded area that connects Queen Street and Carolina Road, Dowless said. Officers were unable to find any evidence of a shooting there, though the wound to Gaskins' hand was bleeding profusely, Dowless said.

Gaskins admitted to accidentally shooting himself while handling a gun in his home as Maj. Jerry Sarvis prepared to conduct a gunshot residue test on his hands, Dowless said

For Bourbon Heat, a club near the corner of Bourbon Street and Orleans Avenue, the busiest night of the year is the Saturday before Mardi Gras, said club owner Angelo Farrell. And like clockwork, as Saturday (March 1) became Sunday (March 2), the dance floor was packed at 2 a.m.

And that was where Deantra Belvin, 21, was headed with a gun concealed in his pants pocket. A server spotted the weapon, security pounced, and in the scuffle, Belvin lost control of the gun. It discharged -- shooting him, quite literally, in the foot. "It's almost comical," Farrell said, "but it's not."

from four days ago
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- A man in Madison County fatally shot himself earlier this week after state agents seized his liquor store for unpaid back taxes.

Hamilton Police Chief Rick Gifford said the state Department of Taxation and Finance asked the police department to provide an officer during a business seizure.

"It's not pleasant," Gifford said. "It's not something we'd typically be involved in."

At about 11 a.m. Wednesday an officer arrived with tax officials at Cook's Liquor Store, at 53 Utica St., in the village of Hamilton. The officer stood by as tax officials seized the property and put a sign up.

The business had a tax warrant for unremitted sales tax of $24,406, Geoff Gloak, a spokesman for the Department of Taxation and Finance, said.

The store's owner was not happy, but there was no indication that he was suicidal, Gifford said.

As tax officials and the officer were preparing to leave the scene, they heard a single gunshot. The officer called for assistance and secured the scene. Gifford said the store owner produced a gun and fatally shot himself. No one else was injured in the incident.

"It was just a horrible situation," Gifford said. "It was as much of a shock to our officers as it was to the community."

Most of Hamilton's police officer knew the store owner, whose family had run the liquor store for decades, Gifford said.

Police are waiting on a toxicology report from the medical examiner's office before completing their investigation, Gifford said

from yesterday

A man in the US accidentally shot himself in the head and died on Monday as he was trying to persuade his girlfriend that guns are safe.

The unnamed 36-year-old from Independence Township, Michigan, was demonstrating how his three handguns are safe when they are not loaded by holding them to his head and pulling the trigger, Detroit Free Press reported.

But when the third gun went off, the man was struck in the head with a bullet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say three children not related to the man, aged 7,10, and 12, were in the home at the time of the shooting, but did not witness it.

The man’s girlfriend told police that he had been drinking most of the day before he died, and sheriff’s officials said alcohol appears to have been a factor in the incident, according to CBS Detroit.

An autopsy will be performed by the Oakland County Medical Examiner as an investigation into the man’s death continues.

In January 2013, 18-year-old Florida resident Alexander Xavier Shaw died doing a similar demonstration.

REDDING, Calif. -

A man who first told Redding Police he was attacked by a black man with a gun has admitted to intentionally shooting himself.

Officer from Redding Police Department got called to Shasta Regional Medical Center for a reported gunshot victim on Feb. 1, at 8:18 p.m.

There they found 34-year-old Brent Thomas Posada of Redding, who said he was shot at his home on the 100 block of Hilltop Drive.

Posada told police a black man approached him there and pointed a gun at his head.

Posada said he pushed the suspect’s arm to the side as the gun went off, and a bullet struck him in abdomen.

When police searched the area they couldn’t find any evidence, so they turned the case over to the Investigations Division.

Investigators examined Posada’s clothes and and pictures of his injuries from that night, finding evidence that contradicted Posada’s statement.

On Monday, Feb. 10, Redding Police interviewed Posada, who admitted that he shot himself with a high-powered air rifle inside his home.

Posada was not arrested for filing a false police report; however, the investigation will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Deputy’s son, 11, fatally shoots himself with mom’s weapon: police

SUN-TIMES MEDIA January 29, 2014 10:11PM

Updated: January 30, 2014 12:29AM

An 11-year-old west suburban boy was found dead in his home after apparently shooting himself with a handgun belonging to his mother, a Kane County Sheriff’s deputy.

Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Larry Hilt said the death is being investigated as an apparent suicide, the Aurora Beacon-News is reporting.

Police were called to the Yorkville home about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said.

Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy said the boy suffered a single gunshot wound, and was at home with his mother when it happened.

The gun used was the mother’s service weapon, Hilt said. Police are still investigating how the boy ended up with the gun.

Sheriff Richard Randall said an internal investigation is being conducted into the incident and the deputy’s adherence to department policy regarding the handling and storage of service weapons.

"If someone has been banging on your door in the dark, can you tell the difference between this 'harmless old man' and someone who wants to kill you and cut the throat of your loved ones as you watch."

Yes, by opening my door and seeing who it is. In most cases I open the door. Someone might need help. This all seems rather obvious. I might also ask speak through the door "who is it and what do you want," and I might also look out my windows too. I can turn my porch light on too. These are my vast super powers. This is how I behave. This is how I was raised. I have not suffered any misfortune from this conduct.

Other superpowers at my disposal: calling a neighbor to look out his window to learn what he sees. Conversing with the stranger so he can tell me what his problem is.

The coward's response? Running off to get his glock pistol.

"I can appear right in front of you with between 6 and a dozen lethal weapons on my person and you would never know it.

Of course you could. The problem here is criminals are usually seeking something -- and are not out there murdering and maiming for jollies.

I might feel differently about "guns" if I was in the drug business or lived feeling "under siege" and "under threat." But neither of these is true.

If I get killed by a criminal, so be it, but I have little fear of this happening. I can honestly say it never crosses my mind. I'm more worried about car accidents and knee injuries, if want to know my concerns.

Your implication seems to be that I should should be worried that a criminal seeking to kill or harm me will be knocking at my door. Sorry, this is a lunatic position from my POV.

No, what I'm saying is that you claim that the shooter "Should have known that the person who was banging on his door was a harmless old unarmed man"

How could he know that without some kind of superpowers.
How did he know the mental state?
How did he know his intentions?
How did he know what he was carrying?

According to you, he should have known all the above.

I didn't say 3rd grade level of education, I said you seem to have a 3rd grade level of reading comprehension (2 different things neh?). Your statement just gives more credence to that assertion.[:D]

As for your edit, maybe you should pay attention to what you wrote BEFORE you hit "OK". and not go back with an "Oops, I look like a lying dumbass, I'd better edit that" some time later.[sm=lol.gif]

I'm not splitting hairs in any way. I'm flat out asking. "Do you have the powers you claim the shooter must or should have had?"

As far as being unarmed is concerned we recently had a thread about a man in WA state who was beaten to death with a flashlight.
Obviously while refusing to verbally identify himself he slipped a copy of his medical records under the door
along with a notarized statement of his intentions.
