Status: offline 		As things stand only about 10% of the gibberish Cameron spouts actually gets close to becoming a law. I'm not too stressed about this one, everyone with the inclination and know-how already knows I'm a perv lol. I'm sure I read recently that Cameron had become more popular with young adults than his competition. This should keep his momentum going (sarcasm!)

Given some of the stuff that pops up in the profiles here, will this be the end of UK participation here on Collarme, and in the forums?

On a broader scale, I'm curious how the Subjects of the Crown will feel about having to specifically request access to pictures of nekkid women, and if there is concern about how that information might be used in the future.




A filter isnt the same as having to "specifically request access" But why let that stop a nice bit of scaremongering.

We have been here before with BDSM web sites and nothing much happened. What you will end up with is a watered down version of Daves newest idea.

What Dave will end up with is a few hundred more votes come next election...Go figure.

There is talk of there being an "opt-in" with I.S.Ps though, which is more than a filter.

We got the extreme porn legislation. Whether anything comes of this remains to be seen however. Apart from anything else, they haven't managed to come up with a workable technical solution to the issue of single households with multiple devices, which is kinda crucial in the modern age.

Filters are even less workable. Because they'd need to be simple enough that technically illiterate adults could install and maintain them, yet somehow magically able to keep out a technically literate teenager on a mission.

. . . Mostly from little old ladies who barely know what the internet is nor how it works. Dave is banking on their believing that he really does have the control over the net that he says he does.

Yep, very little will happen as a result of this latest brouhaha and even that will be ineffective, is my bet.

That's kind of what I meant by special browsers not doing the job.

I was addressing the freedom issue. Nothing more.

Quite frankly, it's none of my business what the Brits do to themselves so, I really don't particularly care about it.

I do know that there's an obsessive need for them to try to influence what goes on here so, I do have to take some notice (on the freedom issue).

its not even so much that, as it is that foot is getting stuck further in the door toward complete internet supervision and control by none other than big brother through its corporations giving them what they would call a justifiable reason to tap what goes through the net and monitor your moral behavior.

As far as preventing people who are hellbent on finding porn, you're absolutely right. No system is going to be foolproof. But for the little old lady who just wants to shop for a new pearl necklace without getting bombed with pictures of girls with jizz all over their face, domain filtering isn't a bad idea. In affect, all you're doing is creating an electronic red light district and giving people the ability to easily avoid it if they want to. That's probably as good as it will ever get on the internet.

Do kids need cell phones with internet access or even texting? What happened to just plain old voice communication phones for kids?

The problem isn't the phones, it's the parents.

The old lady and the scones, well, don't many internet programs allow for filtering of adult content? I don't disagree with you as I think it's a no-brainer.
