Most households in the UK will have pornography blocked by their internet provider unless they choose to receive it, David Cameron has announced.

In addition, the prime minister said possessing online pornography depicting rape would become illegal in England and Wales - in line with Scotland.

Given some of the stuff that pops up in the profiles here, will this be the end of UK participation here on Collarme, and in the forums?

On a broader scale, I'm curious how the Subjects of the Crown will feel about having to specifically request access to pictures of nekkid women, and if there is concern about how that information might be used in the future.

Glad to be a wingnut American today.
We understand what's really important and Porn is way way up on that list [:D]

I wonder if this news will influence the who is the most free thread?

To me, it looks like they will still have a choice

quote:

And millions of existing computer users would be contacted by their internet providers and told they must decide whether to use or not use "family-friendly filters" to restrict adult material.

The filters would apply to all devices linked to the affected home Wi-Fi network and across the public Wi-Fi network "wherever children are likely to be present".

Customers who do not click on either option - accepting or declining - will have filters activated by default, Tory MP Claire Perry, Mr Cameron's adviser on the sexualisation and commercialisation of childhood, told the BBC.

The UK's biggest internet service providers have agreed to the filters scheme meaning it should cover 95% of homes.

What's a bit more troubling (to me) is the restriction of returned search information and the ban on porn that depicts rape. There's a big difference between depicting and having photos of actual rapes.

Not a bit, Butch. That thread is locked "for review."

Well, yeah. That was stated in the first sentence of the lead I snipped, and the subject of one of my questions. They just need to say, "yes, please set my access to the internet at, "pervert."

I also love the bit where searching for porn, if they dare put their name on the list, will produce pop-ups with the phone number for helplines.

FrostedFlake -> RE: Internet porn to be blocked by default in the UK (7/22/2013 7:13:05 PM)

Awwww! It's so sweet when government decides to control thought.

pahunkboy -> RE: Internet porn to be blocked by default in the UK (7/22/2013 7:13:57 PM)

some gay sites are considered porn- even if they are not.

I'm having a hard time with this.

I couldn't find anywhere where the word "pervert" was used and I don't see where this information is gathered/stored anywhere.

I'm of the opinion that free porn is way down the list of priorities but I recognize that people enjoy it and adults should have the right to view/own it.

I also recognize that it is important to protect children and respect parents' individual choices when it comes to not wanting their kids to see porn.

I guess I'm semi-ambivilent since I don't indulge in porn but I am not saying I don't care about the poor Brits' rights. I'm saying that I think they have to be balanced with reasonable measures to protect the innocent.

Good luck to all,

Larry Flint

I thought we were supposed to get the domain .xxx (or similar) added to the naming system to simply content control. Whatever happened to that?

I've never heard of that but could you elucidate? Just from that one sentence, it doesn't seem like enough to prevent industrious, curious kids from learning the extension and by-passing any attempts at censorship.

And you figure websites devoted to the pursuit of kinky sex don't count because...?

Because I'm more into the D/s aspect and if this site were closed down, tomorrow, I'd be willing to bet that a site that centers on D/s without all the NSFW images would emerge.

and how do you know for certain which are depictions/role play and which are actual rapes? or how would the govt know which is which? seems like there are quite a few rapists & their friends videoing their rapes now-a-days, making rape seem like its ok.. and what about those videoed rapes that turned into murders (I am thinking about a certain gruesome serial murders).. how do you think parents feel if their daughter is raped and the rapist kills her but the videos of the rapes are sent around.. Shouldnt there be some things that people shouldnt see? like the girl that was in a car accident (in CA?) and she was almost decapitated, the cop or someone on the scene took pics and emailed them, and those pics went viral, the parents had to hire & pay a company to get thousands of copies removed from websites..

TheHeretic -> RE: Internet porn to be blocked by default in the UK (7/22/2013 8:44:16 PM)

Yeah. I like the D/s thing too. Especially when I D my s into position for some kinky sex.

Now I happen to like the .xxx domain idea. I like parental controls and filters. It's having those settings determined by the government, and requiring permission for access where I run into a problem.

I don't generally go for people criticizing the governments of countries they don't live in, so our friends across the water can hash this out on their own, but I would be vehemently opposed to our own government deciding this is a bright idea.

Honestly, I can't remember all the details but I seem to recall that a few years ago or so there was a gathering of internet "management" groups (for lack of a better term) that were throwing around ideas for expanding the domain naming system. One of the plans was to give adult content it's own domain to help facilitate content filtering. Then they could write custom browsers that couldn't access the domain at all.

It certainly wasn't a fool-proof solution but it seemed like a logical first firewall for parents or businesses to work with. I thought it was a good idea but it never happened.

You're right it doesn't sound like a bad idea (although, I think even special browsers might not get the job done) for a start.

I think it opens up a few cans of worms but it doesn't seem like an awful start.

I just think there has to be some middle ground between treating people like adults and treating younger people like children.

Anyone who wants to bitch about the UK remember USC2257. Also remember that Larry Flynt went to jail in a town where he had never set foot. Why the fuck did he go ? I would have said "Come and get me !".

Wasn't Jerry Springer the mayor of that town at the time ?
