The avatar issue is NOT fixed and why have my e-mails about it been ignored for two months?

It's a natural human tendency to want to step on trolls when they come out from under their bridges, and if the moderators don't do it then sooner or later somebody else will. Telling us not to feed them is a cop-out, and so is telling us to use the "Hide" feature. I mean seriously, what the fuck? "We're not doing our job, and if you don't like it hide the evidence."

My first question is who decides on what a troll is, it is a term often bandied about during an argument by two people holding differing view points. Who gets to decide, the complainant, the moderator, you, me ? If someone posts something you dont like, the mods can only take action as and when you complain about said post. You, like me, tend to reply in kind and as such we have no rights to moan about poor moderation. I have said before i step out of line and therefore I stand up and take any consequences.

My next question is this. How would you suggest this works, it is nigh on impossible to do on a 24/7 basis no matter how many moderators you have. I run a sports forum in the UK and can tell you it isnt my job to babysit posters because they cant stick to the TOS. However, it is my job to respond to complaints sent in by other users. I point out to member that people have other lives to lead and mods (and lets remember the volonteer) are time limited and having to read through every thread on the forum to see all is well, isnt practical. It also stops mods enjoying the forum. Considering how heated this place gets the Mods do a good job keeping a lid on it.

A troll is a poster who comes into a thread, or starts a thread, just to stir up trouble.

A frequent example on these forums is when a poster posts simply to chastise one side for correctly portraying the other. Nothing is added and all the post encourages is tit for tat posts.

I know all that Ken. But how do the mods discern if someone is stirring up trouble or just holds a polar position during a heated debate ?

If they're of the left, they're trolls.

Take the example I used. That is not a polar position. It is simply an attempt to stir up trouble.

Cannot answer about the emails, but looking at your ava it appears as a Peanuts cartoon now. Is that not pulling through from your profile on the CM side? Mail me what is going on and I will take a look at it again.

Thanks,
Gamma

Yes. That is what it is. I cannot load a separate avatar, here. My choices are my main photo or one of the "stock" avatars, provided by the site.

My mails have been ignored for two months. You'll forgive me if I've chosen to stop banging my head against a brick wall?

Another frequent example would be people who manifest an arrogant presumption of their own correctness.
