i have a question for A/all....Master and i take manysupplements and a multivitamins daily...After much research on my part and listening to O/others, W/we have found that many subs/slaves take none..As a nurse this concerns me a bit....M/many do not know that taking extra E and A&D greatly reduces the longevity of bruises and any cuts....To U/us it makes sense to take them since it enables me to play sooner and helps reduce any chances of blood clots....What are Y/you thoughts on this and did Y/you have this knowledge preivous to reading this post?

I take a standard multi-vitamin. My nurse practicioner suggests that just about anybody take a standard multivitamin. However, you have to be very careful to find one that digests properly. In Consumer Reports, they actually found that the Wal-Mart store brand was one of the better brands and broke down properly in the stomach for easy digestion.

Was glad to hear ty.  I had heard there were some that helped and being a major bruiser ( i can look at the table edge and get a bruise) think i had better take them.  I already am taking extra B to keep ticks and such away so now i have to choke a few more horse pills down bummer.  But if they work will be well worth the effort.  Thanks again.

I did have this knowledge before reading this post.  I only wish that i would have started many many years ago in the endeavor i am in/on now.   I take vitamins/supplements daily.........i have learned how to eat healthier, what is in foods, how they affect my body.  I have recently found out that i have to much acid in my system....the foods that i very much enjoy are the culprits.  I am working on options with this also.
I would never have thought that by changing how i approach food, my vitamins would make me feel the way i do.  I still have much to learn, but i am on my way.

Hiya I take vitamins daily, I Love the oil of olay boxed ones that gives you four to take at ones, its got vitamins and oils and makes my skin soft and my hair and nails go quickly, also gives me energy and strangely enough I sleep better at night when i take them as well.  I sometimes also take a vitamin from Nioxin which is wonderful too.

We take a lot of vitamins and supplements, get most of them at Costco. I pretty much use Prevention Magazine for advice.

Multi-vitamins generally don't have enough of anything you need.  Most doctor's recommend taking the vitamins by themselves so you get enough of each.  Or those vitamin packs with several pills in one.

It is MUCH healthier to get your vitamins from the foods you consume rather then pills because many pills don't break down in your stomach and digestive system as they should. If you want a good source on food vitamins, many books on 'becoming vegetarian' are a great place to start. I'm not veggie and I use them; just make sure that if you do eat meat/fish that you find a proper resource on that too.
I find that even a low-dose vitamin makes me very sick, so I just find it easier to eat a balanced diet and go from there. WATER! Drink penty of water for a healthy body all over!

Good luck!

The GNC Ultra Mega Line is very good they have a mens and womens brand. Since i have been taking it my monthly has regulated to a good level ( no cramps and very few clots). it is made so that anything the body doesn't need is flushed out in the urine and other bodly waste. The one bad thing is once you stop taking it your body lets you know within a week.
Do some reseach and see if it will fit what you need.

SubMizu brings up an important point...they are supplements, not magic beans... more isn't neccessarily better.

If your nutrition is way out of whack, all the stuff in GNC won't fix that...
if you are actually following nutritional guidelines, and getting tons of rest, moderate exercise, and hydrating adequately (not too much or too little), your need for vitamins/supplements should be greatly reduced.

I recently started taking vitamins.  I talked to my doc about it, she takes them and says it really can make a difference.  She recommended a multi-vitamin (such as One A Day).  She said some people do better with the brand name, less stomach upset.

i too, being a nurse, know the wisdom of taking on extra vital nutrients into the system, especially since we overtax said system on a daily basis.

as said in previous postings, most vitamins produced have hard shells and are compacted so densely that most digestive systems wont break them down ......they end up out the "shoot" instead.
keep in mind some digestive systems have a quantitative and qualitative inferior acid base with which to start out with.

with this being said, i have always found that making a slurry out of the pills works wonders. this gives the digestive systems at the very least a fighting chance at breaking them down into their elemental compounds and henceforth, taken up into the bloodstream where it will do the most good for the body.

only drawback to this meathod......the slurry will need a chaser........it tastes nasty

the only pill that one needs to worry about not being assimilated into the bloodstream is the calcium pill..... most are oyster shell in base and cannot be broken down by human digestive systems into their elemental compounds.....look for calcium supplements that are labeled "easily digested".

to me, it is only a waste of good money taking pills i know will not be put to good use...

too, the human body will only uptake a quantitative amount of nutrients, the rest will be expelled . so taking more than one a day wont help. you would be better off cutting the pills in half and taking them 12 hours apart. more nutrients would end up in the bloodstream per pill.

as to upset stomachs...there is no real way around it other than to say try to eat something that is low in fats and spices with the pills. drink plenty of water and or juice. some have even found that taking pills with the morning breakfast helps as it dilutes the pills and softens the ill feelings quite a bit.

BTW: a slurry is simply the act of crushing the pills into a fine powder and mixing it with water or juice. the oil based pills can simply be poked with a needle and the essential oils be squeezed out. i will mix the powder into mashed bananas to give to my kids. in the past, i have added the powder into cooked and drained chopped meats that are to be well spiced. this method, i found, worked well with ones who will not or can not swallow pills or slurries.

i do so hope this will be of good help to someone

good health to all
