I am not a hawk Domken but we have already allowed two rogue nations to obtain nuclear weapons. If we had the balls to demand they stop during development the world would be a lot safer today. Just because we messed up then does not mean we should give up now.

There is no such thing as fairness when it comes to weapons that can kill millions In a few seconds. The more unstable nations we allow to have this devastating power the more likely the use.

Butch

Oh FFS Butch..... Why would North Korea, backed by China, take any fucking notice of America ? Thats cloud cuckoo thinking.

I completely support stopping Iran from getting a nuke as long as the theocrats are in power. I never wrote anything indicating otherwise.

Which sect were behind 9/11..... Sunni or Shia. (Best not to make it diffuclt and ask which branch of which sect.)
For two bonus points, which Country did most of them come from ? Was it a)Saudi Arabia b)Saudi Arabia c)Saudi Arabia or d)Saudi Arabia?

Answer: E) All of the Above [:D]

No Shi'ites were involved in 9/11. As a matter of fact no mainstream Sunni were either. Only Wahhabists who many Islamic scholars argue is not Sunni at all.

That is assuming they are interested in anything other than delaying tactics. But as I've stated it is too late now for a preemptive strike so by all means try to get them to change their minds. Then when this fails we may have some world support for military action.

My point however is no matter the outcome of this impasse the US will not and should not normalize relations with Iran. It would be like the appeasement of Hitler.

Butch

OMG, Butch. Spare us the Munich card, please. Iran in 2013 bears no resemblance to Germany 1938.

So, out of the answers given:
A) Saudi Arabia
B) Saudi Arabia
C) Saudi Arabia
D) Saudi Arabia

When I stated E) All of the Above, which answer wasn't correct?

Politesub53 -> RE: Iran (11/14/2013 4:37:54 PM)

I wondered when an American would mention appeasemant again, that hasnt happened for at least three weeks.

Butch........ What was America doing, re Hitler, prior to 1939 ?..... Everything ? Anything ? Nothing ?

I think a few on here need reminding just how the hardliners got in control in Iran, and by popular demand. None of this makes it foolish to try and talk to those that are moderate, whats foolish is seeing them as all the same and carrying on this stupid Status Quo. The neocons on here seem to want action on North Korea and action in Iran while demanding American troops come home. How did the last two adventures work out for you chaps ? Because I can tell you how we fared as a direct result of the Iraq invasion, the 7/7 bombings.

Hold your friends close and your enemies closer. No hearts or attitudes have ever been changed by threatening to bomb them. Reports are that Iranian people are fond of American culture. A better alternative to bellicose threats would be to establish dialogue and cultural/business exchange.

papassion -> RE: Iran (11/15/2013 12:53:38 PM)

On October 1, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ,speaking in the United Nations, warned that Iran obtaining the nuclear bomb, "would trigger nuclear proliferation throughout the Middle East, turning the most unstable part of the planet into a nuclear tinderbox."

Thus it is in everyones' interest to make sure Iran does not get a nuclear weapon.

mnottertail -> RE: Iran (11/15/2013 12:57:54 PM)

Bennie needs to go drink a little mogen david and sit shivah for a while, by himself.

This is the same Netanyahu who's spent the whole of his career in office doing everything he possibly can to keep the middle east unstable?

You are the one demanding comparisons... the only point I am making is we should face this problem head on and pursue it to completion rather than appeasing as the west did Hitler.

Politesub I think you are missing my point... I am not blaming anyone for appeasing Hitler... I just do not want the same thing to happen with Iran... and I do not think it will because of our basic differences in governance... therefore there will be no détente between the US and Iran as Tweak wishes.

And I am not absolving the US part in the type of government that exists in Iran today either. But... the past is no excuse to allow an unstable radical government to have to power to kill millions at the flip of a switch. I do not care how arrogant that sounds it is the truth.

Butch

Problem? Iran has never attacked another nation. It has a paltry military funding. It has maintained a defensive posture throughout the history of the Islamic Republic. What problem do you imagine?

Pursue it to completion? What do you mean, Butch?

Myself... I am for total world nuclear disarmament.. I think Russia and the US have been moving that way along with the rest of the west. We also have India... Pakistan...Korea...and maybe Israel and we do not need more. It is too late to stop those already possessing this killing capability but with each new nuclear power the chance of their use goes up. We must stop this cycle before a world disaster.

Butch

kdsub -> RE: Iran (11/15/2013 5:03:42 PM)

Vince you keep missing the point...Please tell me Iran's position on Israel... Please tell me Iran's position on Gays...Please tell me Iran's position of minority religions in Iran... Please tell me why you think it is ok or fair for Iran to possess a nuclear weapon... just because Israel may have one or the US has and used one in the past.

I want no country to have nuclear weapons and certainly no more.

Butch

But it is okay for Israel to maintain nuclear supremacy in "the most unstable part of the planet?" Why is that? Iran is a member of the NPT; Israel is not? Why is that? How do you assign moral superiority to Netanyahu? By what logic? You like his religion better? He has a strong lobby in Washington? Why is Israel good; Iran evil?

kdsub -> RE: Iran (11/15/2013 5:05:45 PM)

It is not OK... but why add more

kdsub -> RE: Iran (11/15/2013 5:06:56 PM)

Fair means shit Vince when it comes to nuclear weapons... how many has Israel detonated? Has Israel ever threatened to destroy Iran? Does Israel think Iran has a right to exist?

Butch
