I don't pay anything for my medical care including birthcontrol. and prescriptions are only 1.19 or 3.99 . all though when i was ounger, early 20's and was to embarrased to go get condoms from walmart, or tell my mom i wanted condoms could we go out and buy some, i got them at planned parent hood, and they were not costly at all.

Thanks, i have been on it for about 9 years on and off, 7 ish on and then i was like well i think it's high time i let my body do what it was meant to do, so i went off for a year, then we were having sex and i went back on, fr maybe a year, then we were not and i went off for a year, and now i am back on as of yesterday*11/21*

sorry i haven't looked back at this thread in a while, i based those costs off of the base. most clinics will offer prices based off of salary or affordable options IF you can prove your salary or residence,\

good luck with the depo op hopefully you don't have too bad of side effects.

yeah condoms are free a lot of places now, i'm allergic to latex and they even give the latex-free ones at the planned parenthood need me for free, they also give them free at schools. but i needed forms of birth control that could be kept secret so condoms and daily pills never really worked, i did depo a few times but it makes me panic a lot and i lose a lot of energy and get really jittery and get bad memory problems and start feeling scared all the time.... i don't know why but my body doesnt like that stuff.

Oh, and yes you are supposed to feel for the strings the gyno said so, and the pamphlets on IUD's say so. and one other person with an IUD said so. and we agree since i can not even hardly remember to take my own meds regularly and take care of myself prperly something i have to check on all the time, would not be a good birth control choice for me.

soooo directive, you either can't find or refuse to show your employment records and you have to keep your birth control a secret....witness protection?

There is also and injection that lasts for about 6 months, but it wouldn't recommend it if you're sensitive to hormones (it made me go absolutely crazy).

I personally preferred IUDs, because you have nothing to worry about with those... until I got pregnant with one. I guess they really mean those "you have a 0.001% chance of getting pregnant with this birth control" stats.

IUDs do make pelvic infection (potentially fatal) much more likely, because your cervix is open all the time, so you shouldn't get one if you have multiple sexual partners. Also, insertion is really painful. But as far as remembering to take meds, it's much easier.

Yaz and Yasmin are both normal take-one-a-day-pills, which have been found to have life threatening side effects that weren't properly disclosed. There is a lawsuit going on, and an accompanying TV commercial trying to get users of said birth control to contact the lawyers in question.

I really hope they don't take them off the market. I'm probably going to get my IUD removed, and it's the only BC pill I've ever tried that doesn't make my period wildly irregular and give me insane levels of PMS.

iud- last up to ten years if you use the non hormonal version-$3000-$5000

Are you serious???? WTF??? Why on Earth would it cost that much?

I got mine for $75 or so... including the OBGYN visit.

It takes 5 minutes to stick it in, and doesn't use any sedation or anything like that, so even with the US's absurd health care costs, how on Earth would they manage to hick the price up that absurdly?

Right, yeah, WTF. When I did it, I hadn't met the deductible for my insurance so I paid most of the cost out-of-pocket, and it was about $300. I wish they'd sedated me, the pain was horrible both during and after. I had to take like 4 Advil and put on a hot pad and wait around for maybe an hour before I could drive.

Unless you use a different formula over the pond (which wouldn't surprise me), Depo is very successful here and it's only once every 3 months.

The only problem with Depo is it reduces bone density, so you shouldn't use it long-term or you can get osteoperosis.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: there was a bc pill that you only take like once a week or something (11/22/2013 10:27:33 AM)

Another good reason i wouldn't get one.

Also, insertion is really painful.

It depends, I've had 3 IUDs inserted, two hormonal and one copper, and I didn't really find the insertion more painful than period cramps.

Sure it was annoying, and there was a sensation of pain, but the level the pain was at for me wasn't enough to impede me from doing anything. After the insertion of the second one, I was back to work half an hour later, having scheduled the appointment on my lunch break.

I've been to three doctors with my depo, I was on it for up to 5 years on one stretch and have had no problems whatsoever. I love depo, and I'm looking forward to being on it again. My other half is also excited to no end because my periods make me extremely angry for 4 days. He's super stoked to be off the hormone roller coaster after the 1st of the year. ^.^

Why don't you just get a tubal? It's not like you'll ever be able to take care of children.

Ignore her, shes just trying to stir up shit here, apparently since i cut her off on fb.

Lizard went off the Depo shot this year and is starting to get regular cycles. She was planning to get a IUD but she is not in a relationship so she is foregoing it and just see what happens. The only relationship she is in is with a girl in France.

It was obnoxious and uncalled for. Are you this rude to everyone you know pretty well or is she a special case?
