Who's preventing Christians from celebrating Christmas? Are there Christmas police going round smashing up nativity scenes?

Well, when Merry Christmas is forbidden to be used in Decors, and they have to put up "Happy Holidays" decors instead, that is pretty NAZI runned!
I heard from my US and UK friends based here that some places in their countries, even some shopping malls aren't allowed to put up Christmas decorations anymore, as it's a Christian thing and not universal for all. That's PC gone mad!

The complaints are that some business require their workers to say Happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas due to the large number of non Christmas holidays that occur around this time each year. Usually it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan (which includes Eid), the winter solstice for the New Age types etc.. It's simply an attempt by businesses to be inclusive so everyone spends money.

MstrPBK -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 10:32:56 AM)

I have read the first three pages of this thread, and what comes to mind is "Why do we have to have this annul berating of the origins of Christmas - we now call it a 'war'." While it is good to be reminded of the various beginnings of Christmas, but I believe it is certainly not a good idea to phrase it as a "war". It is counter intuitive the meaning of the season.

Giving is better than receiving. One year some time back I asked the question how many celebrations of gift giving were there in December, and I found 33 such holidays / Holydays that fit the definition. Rather than worrying about what others celebrate for this holiday season I try to offer my appreciation of others friendship over the last year. To derail this thread momentarily I wanted to share with you not what I want for this season but what I plan to GIVE this season:

1) Calenders using my garden as the theme.
2) Hosta from my garden (after they emerge from their long winter naps!
3) One person will be getting an introductory level pair of Boomerangs.
4) Two others will get a set of novice level Boomerangs.
5) and two persons will be getting money.

Why boomerangs - a reminder that what you give comes back to you!
Why money - there are persons who really do need a little extra money in this world.

Is it more important to worry about what we celebrate. than to celebrate who were with?

Forbidden by whom, precisely?

Your UK friends, at least, are wrong. http://www.thedisinformed.co.uk/2010/12/12/the-winterval-myth/. Well, apart from Cromwell and the Puritans. But that wasn't recent.

Ah, that puts quite a different spin on it. So the problem is that businesses are attempting to make commercial decisions? Unlike their behaviour for the rest of the year, obviously.

Deffo PC gone mad!

Somewhere in the UK, a chip shop owner was forced to take down the British flag during Fish'N'Chip week because it might upset the immigrants.

We have now noticed that our local Texaco garage has been ordered to take down his "Merry Christmas" banners because the local council fear it might upset the Islamics.
WTF?? It is owned and run by Turkish Muslims who actually like the decorations!!
Jeeez. What is the world coming to?

We have also heard that the local junior school have cancelled their yearly nativity evening for the parents, again because the local council fear that it may upset the local immigrants.
FFS!! The school is more than 50% immigrants and they have a celebration of every faith in the last few weeks before xmas. All the other faiths had theirs but the nativity play had to be cancelled - by order.

Not really sure, I assume when things like this happen, it gotta be some "town council" decision. I don't even understand why people should be pressured into not celebrating their religious festive thingies publicly. And why should public places not be nice, and put out for example, "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Deepavali" signs everywhere, just to be nice to the "minorities". Its simply kind greetings.

There was a specific incident in the US, where atheists complained about a decor of like baby Jesus in the Manger at some public park, and they removed it. I am an atheist and I would be the first to raise my hand if anybody asked who was anti-religion, and I am extremely anti-ALL religions, but harmless stuffs like that, I think it's silly to even try to wreck their decor.

Where in the UK?
Who owned the chip shop, and who forced him to take down the flag?
Without basic details like that, this stinks of an invented story.

Probably not, as it seems this oaf still has his banner up, which is why the Fail is lauding him.

(As for that "the best fried food is English" nonsense, he's full of shit: the best chippys I've been in were owned and run by Greeks.)

I've got to admit that I became deeply suspicious of any of these 'they're going to ban Christmas!' stories ever since that drivel was kicked off a few years ago about some local council. There wasn't a single fact in it - it was completely baseless - but it didn't stop nutters all over the country firing off those chain emails with, e.g. a picture of a Christmas tree that had the caption, 'I call this a Christmas tree'. My dad used to get emails like that and do a global forwarding without a second's research on the 'facts' behind it.

If it's not true, then I am happy to know that! The world hasn't gone insane on PC!
Anyway, while some places in US and UK can't put up Merry Christmas signs, I can't eat in a single fast food restaurant with real bacon, MacDonald, Burger King, Wendy's whatever, all Halal! Even when only 13% of our population are halal! Another super annoying thing! So we get yucky Macon and turkey bacon instead of the real thing. Whereas Thailand's like majority Buddhist or something and they can't eat beef, but they have pork alternative in Mac along with Beef! Now that is fair!

Moonhead -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 12:24:17 PM)

What's the problem with PC?
Most of what histrionic drama queens like Rush Limpdick and DEnnis Leary dismiss as "political correctness" is basically good manners.
Is being a rude cunt something to be proud of now?

"The owners of a Lancashire fish and chip shop have been forced to take down their Union Jack sign, as it was described as "gaudy" and "too busy".

Lesley Salthouse and her husband Peter, who have run Naze Lane Chippy in Freckleton for almost 25 years, were told the sign was not in keeping with the village

Lucylastic -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 12:49:41 PM)

oh so it had nothing to do with immigrants? didnt think so

Moonhead -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 12:54:35 PM)

Doesn't look like it from that article, no.
(But, for a change, it seems that it was the council who removed it...)

Lucylastic -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 1:00:48 PM)

and according to the pice, it was ONE complainant... not a group, ONE single person, as with many of thesee bullcrap stories,
no hoards of atheists or non christians....

Moonhead -> RE: The war on christmas (12/19/2013 1:02:30 PM)

The one person might have been an immigrant though.
Possibly.
