Also good to know :-). I don't know if I would want to risk it being one of the preservatives instead of some kind of egg or chicken feather allergy though.. I almost died the last time... I have a heart condition where my heart beats too fast and when they had to give me the epi. it opened my airway but it also set off my heart...

edited for typos...

Okay :-) I will keep it in mind. I don't think we have any herbal tea in the house though... so it is probably some kind of black tea... For the most part on a normal basis I mostly only drink water and milk... I am avoiding milk right now though...

You can make your own herbal tea with common kitchen spices. Put a stick of cinnamon or a few cloves of nutmeg in hot water and steep for a few minutes. Voila! Easy herbal tea.

You can make homemade "spa water" in a similar manner. Slice up some lemon, orange, apple, or any other fruit you like (or cucumber if you like that) and put it in an empty pitcher. Fill it halfway with ice and then add cold water. Put it in the refrigerator for an hour or two to steep before you drink it. It will last roughly 24 hours before it starts developing weird film, depending on how much pectin is in the fruit.

I hate the flu!!! I feel horrible and I can't get my temp. to go below 101.3... Last night it shot up to 104.9. The popsicles and Powerade can only take me so far, but when I try to eat anything solid it doesn't want to stay down... My sis isn't doing much better than me :-(. To top it all off my niece is getting it too and that isn't good with her Asthma... Hopefully we recover before Christmas.

If your fever reached 104.9, you should have gone to the hospital. That's a temp too high to play with by yourself.

I took some Tylenol and drank some cold liquids and had a lukewarm shower and it went back down...

But it isn't going back down to normal. That means a trip to the ER because something is obviously wrong.

I'm simply suggesting the reasonable, logical thing to do. You are free to do what you want, even if it causes permanent damage or death.

I have the flu... I am past the 48 hour mark so the Tamiflu stuff wouldn't work... I also don't have insurance right now until I find a job and I refuse to run up a bill I can't pay unless I have no other choice.

To the OP sometimes flu can turn into infection. Tamiflu only works on flu...you could have flu and a infection. Meaning you were brewing with something else before you got your sister's flu. It would not work on infection. You must make sure you change you bed linens and your feverish pajamas or you will continue to get fevers, lots of fluids including orange juice...most hospitals have Charity Care so if you need to go to the docs than go. If you have a stuffy nose use some nasal saline (non-habit forming and you can use as much as you like). NO Echinacea. If you continue to have a fever above 101 you need to go to the hospital despite not wanting to have a bill. Feel better.

Thanks... I always get this way when I get the flu.. My temp. is now down to 99 and has stayed that way since this afternoon as long as I take Tylenol every 6 hours. I am allergic to oranges but I have been drinking plenty of other fluids and have changed my pj's every day since I got sick after pretty much every shower/bath. If it goes back up again and I don't start feeling a lot better in a day or two then I will make an appointment at the discount clinic I normally go to. They aren't open on the weekends or I might have already gone... They only charge 10 dollars a visit...

Edited to add: I also made myself some chicken noodle soup earlier and was able to keep it down and haven't been sick since early this morning so I think I am turning the corner now... I sure hope so anyway I want to be better so I can enjoy Christmas with my sis and her family...

I'm certainly glad that your fever is down. However, playing with your health like that is dangerous. You should also be changing your toothbrush or at least boiling it to kill the germs.

Fevers over 101 are nothing to play with.

Thank you. I always change my toothbrush after a major illness. I have gotten fevers like that most of my life so I guess I am just used to it... I have gone to the doctor for it in the past when I had insurance and they always just tell me to take fever reducers, drink plenty of liquids, and take lukewarm baths or showers....

I bought a caffeine-free tea sampler this month and Mom and I are fighting over the Lemon Zinger. I recommend that flavor for the flu. My doctor gave me 2 flu vaccines...the shot in October and the nose one when I went in November because Mom was worried about my sneezing and coughing (it was a bug I got from the kids). He also gave me antibiotic shots and some pain killers. I got pissed when he prescribed steroids (metallic taste).

Now if I get the sniffles, I take Dayquil pills and cherry Nyquil at night.

If you can, go to a local natural food store and get rose hip tea (Lemon Zinger does have rose hips in it). To me, it is better than orange juice (can't have OJ, might cause a UTI).

Fevers are a sign of some kind of infection and the fever is your body's way of fighting it. If all the doctor told you was the above, they certainly didn't seem to do any test to find the cause of the fever.

Most of the time they tested me and I was positive for the flu and then they would tell me the above and that it just had to run its course...

So my sister ended up in the E.R. and apparently we have the H1N1 Flu... They gave her some zofran for the nausea she went in for and told her to stay as hydrated as possible and that it just has to run its course since we have been sick too long to take that Tamiflu stuff...

You aren't in PA are you? A good friend of mine just posted an FB message to say she's in the hospital with the same thing.

It must be making its rounds again. That sucks. I hope you feel better soon.
