Thanks again, everyone.  From what I've heard, it could be that he has congestive heart failure.  I think that's treatable but not curable, but I'll need to do some research.  If I hear anything more, I'll post it here.

We are Christians and believe very much in the power of prayer. You may have heard of the study they did some years ago...there was a hospital and down the street, a church. They created two lists of people in this hospital, and gave one list to the church, asking them to pray for these people. On each list was only the person's first name and illness. The other list was not prayed for.
It ended up that the people on the "prayed for" list got better significantly  faster, more completely and more often, and required less medication than those on the "unprayed for" list. It is significant that there were several people on both lists who had the same first name and illness, but were separate people...and these people on the "prayed for" list still got better more than those on the "unprayed for" list.
This to me suggests that there is both force and intelligence in the answering of the prayers...
We have many many times had prayers answered in weird and miraculous ways, and want to encourage all to be selfish and ask for what you want and need, but be loving and ask for others wants and needs as well.
The moral of the story is...we're praying  for you and your situation!

If it helps encourage you any, I have asked for prayers several times on this site.  People have risen to the occasion each time and prayed for miracles and hopefully it will encourage you to know that their prayers have been answered.  In fact they are still being answered, even when some posted serious doubt that it could work out.  God is faithful and just.  I pray every day, several times a day for mercy and divine intervention and God shows Me every single day that He is in control.  Since this nightmare all started I have dozens of stories to share of His faithfulness.  This is not the place, but I just wanted to encourage you that asking for prayer here is a great idea, the people here really care, God listens and miracles happens.  Keep the faith.
