MadameMarque -> RE: Manliest Movie Quotes EVER. (7/6/2006 5:11:05 AM)

In this scene from "Bad Day at Black Rock,"* set in post-war '50's, a stranger comes into a small town, looking for his friend, a Japanese man, who came to live in Black Rock and has disappeared.

The town tough guys have tried to provoke the stranger into fighting, in order to have an excuse for getting rid of him, but can't seem to get him riled and he won't go away.

SMITH
...I believe a man is as big as
what he seeks. I believe you're a
big man, Mr. Macreedy.

MACREEDY
Flattery will get you nowhere.

SMITH
Why would a man like you be looking
for a lousy [racial slur] farmer?

MACREEDY
Maybe I'm not so big.

SMITH
Yes, you are.
(a beat; looking hard at Macreedy)
I believe that a man is as big as
the things that make him mad. Nobody
around here has been big enough to
make you mad.

MACREEDY
What makes you mad, Mr. Smith?

I always remember taking away from this, that it takes a lot to make a big man/woman angry, and if something or someone "small" in nature gets to me, I think of this, sometimes.

*(Screenplay by Don McGuire and Millard Kaufman.  Based on the story "Bad Day At Hondo" by Howard Breslin.)

"Oh, Baby, you're bleeeding!"
- "True Romance," screenplay by Quentin Tarentino

I love that movie. And after Doc tells him that, and Johnny realizes it's him, not Wyatt, Doc says "Why Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave." [>:]

Here's another gem from Tombstone:

Vermillion: You really look awful.
Doc: Not half as bad as I feel.
Vermillion: Then why the hell're you doin' this? You ought to be in bed.
Doc: Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Vermillion: Hell, I got lot's of friends
Doc: I don't.

The speech by Clint Eastwood when he runs thru town and sees Mr ElectricLightCompany (anybody? Morgan Freeman  remember that?)  and he says something like... "You bury him proper, or I will come back and kill you and your aunts and uncles and all your children......"

I am sure someone knows it exactly.

Level -> RE: Manliest Movie Quotes EVER. (7/6/2006 4:40:48 PM)

 Unforgiven, another classic [:D].

Bill (Clint Eastwood) Munny: Hell of a thing, killin' a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess he had it comin'.
Bill Munny:  We all got it comin', kid.

The Schofield Kid: I ain't never killed no one before that, Will.
Bill Munny:  Well, you sure killed the hell outta that guy

Bill Munny: All right now, I'm comin' out. Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down.

Will Geer (grampa walton) in Jerimiah Johnson:

A woman has a heart hard as rock, and I can find no track on it.....

Ron, does this sound right to your ears/memory?

Jeremiah Johnson: Y'ever get lonesome?

Bear Claw Chris Lapp: Fer what?

Jeremiah Johnson: Woman?

Bear Claw Chris Lapp: Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman's heart. I packed me a squaw for ten year, Pilgrim. Cheyenne, she were, and the meanest bitch that ever balled for beads. I lodge-poled her at Deadwood Creek, and traded her for a Hawken gun. But don't get me wrong; I loves the womens, I surely do. But I swear, a woman's breast is the hardest rock that the Almighty ever made on this earth, and I can find no sign on it.

Hope that's it, mein friend. [:)]

Not to derail, but that movie was a weak adapatation of a fascinating book called 'Crow Killer'...not for the faint of heart, or those easily offended by nonPC historical depictions.

The real John Johnson's life was way too much for Hollywood to handle.

Chronicles of Riddick, Vin Diesel is standing in the control room of the jail on Crematoria.. just the way he says "Because it was MY plan" sends little shivers down my spine. Could just be that I drool over any action movie involving that man..

TahoeSadist -> RE: Manliest Movie Quotes EVER. (7/7/2006 6:49:19 AM)

Edward Longshanks in Braveheart:
LS: "Archers!"
Commander: "But Sire, won't they hit our own men?"
LS: "Yes, but we'll hit theirs as well. We have reserves. Attack"
and:
"Arrows cost money, the dead cost nothing. Send in the reserves."

From Three Musketeers:
King Louis: You've failed.
Cardinal Richelieu: Oh, you're so naive. Things couldn't be more perfect if I planned them myself. The King of France dies at the hands of his own personal guard. Grief stricken, terrified, the hudled masses turn for comfort to their devout spiritual leader who, ever so humbly, assumes the throne. With the Queen by his side.
Queen Anne: I would rather die!
Cardinal Richelieu: That can be arranged!

Eric
