ORIGINAL: dollparts85 Very true. And considering I don't know even know one person who has truly recovered from an eating disorder...makes it hard to believe it's even possible. Maybe some day. But I'm content with how things are right now. It doesn't rule my life like it once did...it's just a small part of my daily routine. Kinda like pooping. Cept out a different place LOL Raises hand... I don't know if I have "truly recovered" as I said, it is like if you have an addiction, you just can't do some things, I'm an ex-smoker, I couldn't just buy a pack of cigs and then stop again. Same thing with food, I can skip the occasional meal but I can't make it a habit or I get really addicted to that light headed feeling and the bust of energy I get from going over the hunger barrier, a bit like a runner's high. But actually I can sit down and have a nice meal now with friends, without feeling guilty or counting calories and wondering how much exercises I have to do for it so I won't gain. If I'm getting hungry I can grab and eat an apple without compulsively checking the scales and wondering (more like panicking) if I will turn into Bubba the Hut. It's a much better quality of life, much more fun, I don't miss the fainting spells from not having eaten, the constantly obsessing about calories and thinking about food all the time because I was always hungry. Right now I have to look up the calorie content in things, roughly know some stuff as I put it into the livejournal ap, same with exercises. 20 years ago I could tell you the calorie content of everything under the sun, I could even tell you how toasted cotton wool tasted (revolting). Oh and if you are having skin problems, eating disorders magnify them. You'd be amazed how much your food intake has to do with your skin. Maybe I will get there eventually. I am a lot better now than I was. I'm thinking about having a protein shake and then a food item every day...maybe... I have hidradenitis suppurativa so it's not something that will ever go away and will get worse as I get older...but I'm sure if I had proper nutrition, that would help with healing some.
