Lol I'm now thinking of the old (80's I think) Martini slogan.

I do like an occasional beer, a real ale If available as opposed to some of the mass produced rubbish. Failing that I'm a Port man, with a good cheese board, the simple things in life

Hold on there, weren't you all just plotting a rebellion? It's vege-loaf for the lot of you, and warm water from the garden hose. Brie, stilton, ale...pfft. Leave all that on the D's table on your way out to police the yard.

>detonates the charge collapsing the 'secret' escape tunnel entrance before she can enter<.

I've read the Evil Overlord manual, young lady. Now go shovel the driveway with this teaspoon.

I have a nice bottle of Taylor's tawny (10yr old) decanted for this evening, now if you're talking single malts mine's a 12 yr old Cardhu with just a splash of room temp water.

I once had the MOST sublime port I've ever tasted, or will probably ever taste again.

I was away for a long weekend, and my husband (at the time) and I were well on our way to tipsy. We were at a little pub, on an adorable little side street in Annapolis, MD.

The bartender was a brilliant, funny man, and took a liking to us. When talk drifted to our favorite drink, port came up. He reached under the bar and pulled out a bottle.

I WISH I had NOT been tipsy. It was a rare, old tawny port...at $40 a glass.

It was the single most sublime glass of anything I'd ever tasted.

And I can't remember the name, the year...nothing.

It still drives me crazy!!!

I like Tawny Port, but why people insist eating it with something as horrible as stilton will always be a mystery to me

We don't have that, but part of our collection (hubby was successfully converted to a Single Malt lover, I civilized him)

It's an old picture, he expanded it somewhat...

When we met he told us (a bunch of Single Malt fans) he doesn't understand what the big deal is about, it's just booze to him, somebody handed him a snifter of very nice peaty malt, and he incoherently mumbled "I do understand, now I DO understand..."

The strange thing is that when I lived in Germany I could buy them cheaper and had much more choice (stuff you just can't get in the UK despite they are being made here), so whenever I'm back, I just tend to stock up. I found out that our nightmare lodger (squatter more like it) helped himself to the bottle of Lord of the Isles, for that alone he deserved to be turfed out...

I've done that a few times when I've gone to tasting sessions, still, a good excuse to go back the next time I suppose lol

I tried white port recently, very surprised how good it was, not good enough to replace my tawny mind you :-)

Since the staff here isn't really on top of things, I decided to confiscate an espresso machine...
