Using a heating pad or hot water bottle, as well as folded blankets/towels for support, was the only way I could travel or sit for longer periods. At events, I would seat myself near a wall or door so I could frequently stand up and stretch. Sometimes it took support from a walking stick to get myself up from the chair, but it took what it took. You can buy a stick that collapses into itself for storage under your chair/seat, and IMO they're 'hipper' than canes ;-). Another thing I did while waiting in offices like dentist/doctor was to fold the end of the blanket over the seat of the chair with the rest in a nice flat surface on the floor. I'd lie on that with my feet/legs elevated on the chair seat (covered by the blanket, of course). If I knew I would be there awhile, I'd bunch up a bit of the blanket under my neck to properly support it. This was the ONE posture I could completely relax in, pain-free. If you try this, be sure to slowly lower your legs at the end, turn onto your side for a few moments to let your blood flow re-calibrate, then sit up SLOWLY so as not to get dizzy, using your arm for support. Before getting into this posture, I thought it was polite to let anybody present know what I was doing. They were always sympathetic, and a few thought they should try it themselves.
