Lady16Lily -> What is your safe word? (7/16/2014 11:19:29 PM)

I'm interested in seeing what all of My fellow Dom/mes make Their subbie/slaves say. I make Mine say "Banana." Lol! subs/slaves are welcome to post as well.

crazyml -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/16/2014 11:27:03 PM)

Lol... I've used banana before!

abracadabra is another.

Nerdy moment - If you're into bondage, suspension etc, it's worth having a safe signal too just in case the sub can't talk

FieryOpal -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/16/2014 11:32:42 PM)

I go with a pretty standard green/yellow/red system. It's easy to remember and quite effective. You don't want to get so whacked-out with being cute or unique that you lose sight of the true purpose of having safe words.

It's also important to have safety signals. A few simple hand & foot signals should do the job. And then there's always plain ole keeping open lines of communication, for those who aren't absorbed in their "forced" CNC kinks.

The safe word I give to my ladies is: "Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu".

It's a real word. It's the name of a New Zealand hill (about 1,000 meters high) [:D]

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

Lady16Lily -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/16/2014 11:48:23 PM)

Haha! Is that the one from the movie "Euro Trip?" I was wondering if someone was going to say that!

DaddySatyr -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/16/2014 11:50:25 PM)

I learned it from a Maori I was once involved with.

Good advice, FieryOpal!

Lol, crazyml!

FYI, here's an insightful thread on "NO Safeword...??," which actually goes into the whole issue of having safe words between play partners: http://www.collarchat.com/m_4664369/tm.htm

Thanks, FieryOpal! You have been great! Very helpful!

Oddly enough, even though we officially use red/yellow/green, my sub hates saying red so she uses "Okay" through gritted teeth.

DesFIP -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/17/2014 7:02:01 AM)

Them having a safeword does not absolve you of responsibility of noticing things have gone wrong.

If you hit an emotional trigger they may well be unable to talk. Subspace also can cause people to go nonverbal.

Even if they can't talk, usually they can nod or shake their heads. So it is still incumbent upon you to ask them if they're okay or not.
Or simply to notice that they're crying or shaking and their body language indicates distress. At which point you should stop and end things. If afterwards they say they could have gone a little further, then you've learned that for next time.

It doesn't all have to be done at once.

I prefer "Eyjafjallajökull" (a volcano in Iceland) :D

So is this your way of saying that everything you do is 'okay' with your sub? [8D]

Seriously, though, I think there are subs who need to know that they shouldn't let their pride stand in the way of giving feedback, especially with a relatively new play partner Dominant-Top.
This isn't a contest for subbliest sub. As for verbalization & vocalization, I prefer for there to be plenty of it.

I once had a sub who lasted all of one day (after preliminary meets & greets) because he suddenly became mute when scening and would only answer "yes" and "no," which drove me bonkers. [:@] (He had otherwise been verbal in messaging and in our previous ordinary interactions.)

CreativeDominant -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/17/2014 7:47:48 AM)

I like yellow, red and green also. I use fingertap of I ask them and get no verbal response. And, I watch them...a lot.

Unless your Dark Stephen

Dark Stephen- "are you okay?" (Red)
sub- "NO" (means she's okay)

Dark Stephen- "are you not okay?" (not red)
sub- "No, I'm not okay" (she's fine) [&:]

Miyani -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/17/2014 9:10:26 AM)

Technically, my boy doesn't have a safeword (though he ALWAYS has the ability and right to let me know he needs a break, and makes use of that right when he needs to). However, we've joked that if he got one, it would likely be "For the Shire!"

MercTech -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/17/2014 3:37:54 PM)

Persimmon

I find them so detestable that it totally gets me out of the zone.

eliseobeys -> RE: What is your safe word? (7/17/2014 3:43:38 PM)

Ive yet to submit to anyone who insisted I use one.

I am not a big fan of them for a number of reasons, like when the dominant expects to use it as a crutch etc.

Also I personally find it almost impossible to conceive of using one effectively myself since any deeply humiliating or heavy session will almost always send me into autopilot mode and I stay there until things are over or I get snapped back into place so to speak.

That's very reasonable. But is a phonetic pronunciation provided or is part of the scene attaining the ability to figure out how to pronounce it correctly? Certainly, the latter is far more interesting, although it introduces new "difficulties" :)

I got one better, and use this: Prince's unpronounceable name
