Ok....I admit that for the sake of privacy I do not have a picture of myself on my profile, and because of that, I don't care if anyone else has a pic on their profile either. But I'll even take it a step further and say that I don't put a lot of importance on someone's looks. I've loved and had wonderful relationships with tall guys, short guys, fat guys, skinny guy, hairy guys, bald guys.....it really doesn't matter to me.

So this means that when I start to talk to someone, I am very rarely the first one to suggest that we exchange pictures.

With that being said....I just read the following in a Dominant's journal:

"I am actually surprise by the comments about my failure to post a picture and the expectation that I should; perhaps, I am simply wrong. The truth is that slaves should be ready to accept ownership from an unknown and unseen owner which is why I failed to post a picture. In other words, this amounts to a preliminary test. I am sorry if this offend, but is is reality!"

Now seriously.....even if you don't give a rat's ass about someone's appearance....would you become someone's slave sight unseen????

I have to say that I really have liked meeting people over the internet-- in forums where you chat prior to seeing photos. I find it very interesting starting to get to know someone prior to seeing what they look like. For me, looks are important, but they don't trump the mental and emotional connection that can be formed through chatting. I've met my past 2 SO's this way, and I have to say that they were both probably people that I would not have struck up a conversation with initially had it been in person. Of course, I thought that they were both handsome-- but I was looking more at the "whole package" I think when I first saw photos.

EDITED TO ADD: I wouldn't submit or be a slave to anyone before knowing whatever I could about them, including what they looked like.

I'm the same way....I like to have a conversation with someone without knowing what he looks like. I also think it is very interesting to get to know someone's personality before seeing them. Kind of reminds me of the old "Dating Game" where the bachelorette questioned the 3 bachelors hidden behind the wall and had to decide who she wanted to date without seeing what he looked like first. lol

BUT....for a slave to say she will submit to someone before she has seen him? That's just crazy.....at least it is to me.

That red-highlighted bit is the most idiotic crap I've read here in some time, and that's really saying something. That guy is a moron who badly needs to move out of his mother's basement.

The most interesting and compelling men I've known have not been the best-looking ones. But I need to know their physical self and presence before I make any decisions about them.

Yes, it is to me as well. I couldn't imagine submitting to anyone prior to meeting them and spending time with them. I mean, even if it were to be an "online only" thing-- I would want to see the whole package.

Well, when this dom talks about "The Truth", I guess he's talking about "his" truth, and yanno, given the wide range of kinks and preferences out there, part of me thinks "well, fair enough..."

Of course, another, bigger, part of me thinks "what a dick".

I've met several people without ever having seen a pic, as it happens, and on every occasion it worked out nicely - I only got up to hanky panky with one of them, but the others all turned out to be interesting people who were fun to have a coffee with.

Something else, two people could have a really good connection online, but once it goes offline, it could be a 180.. Plus, how are you supposed to know who you're meeting if you don't exchange pictures beforehand? Well unless you plan on meeting where no one else will be *shrug*

Oh sure... quite a few times in the past the "online" chemistry hasn't made it into real-world, but as often as not that's even after swapping pics!

And... tbh... meeting someone you've never seen before isn't actually that hard - walk into the coffee shop, ring her phone and hey presto!

So a slave should accept ownership from any Joe Blow who claims to be a Dom without seeing him and getting to know him. My thought on that is, it's time he pulls his head out of his ass.

I'm not a slave but as a submissive, I wouldn't submit or accept anyone as my Dom/Master until I know him well. Looks are not important to me but knowing the person is very important.

I do prefer to see a pic before a meeting in real life. It is usually my first clue about how truthful a man is being. The "Dom" in the OP's quote will have a tough road, in my opinion. I would not meet anyone before exchanging pictures, speaking on the phone, and possibly Skype or FaceTime, if travel is required to meet.
After that, it usually comes down to a chemistry thing. For me, attractiveness is subjective. I have found that drop dead hotties that make me stutter and stammer because they are sooooo freakin gorgeous, get LESS attractive if they end up being idiots. Or mean. Or just plain boring. In the reverse, fairly plain looking gents, that end up seducing my mind with wit, and confidence and whatever it is that makes me all hot and swoony, get MORE attractive.

Thank you Lord Master of all things wise, your reminder is much appreciated. I must admit I misplaced the rule book many years ago and since I'm as old as dirt, the rules have also escaped my once fine memory. I know that's not an excuse but hey, shit happens. Just in case I'm ever on the prowl for another Dom, I copied them, emailed them to myself and I will also have them tattooed on my belly written backwards so when I look in the mirror every day I'll be able to read them and maybe they'll sink in.
