That intruder made it to the East room inside the White House. Do you still think he shouldn't have been killed before he made it inside ? Or do you still think it's just another building and doesn't matter ?

He made it through 2 doors. He was still in the parts of the Mansion open to tours. And no matter what the President and First Family weren't present. I'm not confident the SS had the authority to shoot to kill in that circumstance. I really don't see the point of killing a troubled vet over a building.

While I completely agree that "shoot-to-kill" should not have been followed in this case, the lack of security at the White House is troubling.

We have had party crashers during the Obama Administration.

We had the White House hit by bullets.

Now we have a guy that made it into the building with one response, resulting in a "broken tackle." Five layers of security failed.

Maybe we need to have Anthony Schlegel, Ohio State University's Assistant Strength Coach, give some pointers on taking down a runner.

From the OP's link:
    quote:

Several former Secret Service officials said in interviews this week that they were surprised no officers fired at Gonzalez.

These former officials said Secret Service protocols have called for shooting an intruder who is close to crossing the threshold of the White House, as it might not be clear if the person is a serious threat.

“If they aren’t stopping and are on the threshold of the house, you have to use lethal force,” said Dan Emmett, a former Secret Service counterassault officer. “This would have been an easy shot and one that would have been entirely defensible.”

I accept that no one took a shot, in this case. Why wasn't that a response?
    quote:

The official said that at least part of the reason that the man managed to get so far was that he did not appear to be armed or carrying anything. In addition, the official said, first family members were not inside.

But, could he have been wearing a vest? The WaPo link has a very blurry mobile video that doesn't answer that question. Still. this is an incredibly poor response. He's very lucky he isn't dead.

Ordinary citizens don't jump the fence and rush the White House front door. These loonies need to be taken out.

Why do you feel that the mentally ill should be executed without trial?

The Secret Service has a job to protect the President. They did not do their job in this instance.

Since the president and his family were not there how would they be protecting them?{/b]

The Secret Service is not doing their job.

Given your published opinion of this president why do you care?

He is the President of the United States. Whoever that may be, they need to be protected.

It is very curious to me that the usual liberal posters don't seem to give a hoot that the Secret Service is doing a lousy job protecting the President an his family.

If the President or any members of the First Family had been present I'd have been fine with a lethal response. However since none were I'm also fine with not killing the troubled vet. I think the less killing the better.

The Secret Service should always shoot to kill in a situation like this. If anyone (especially a white Hispanic) kills THIS president, the race riots will go on for months, and the damage to the fabric of the nation will be irreparable

And imagine "President Biden"

Remember the black woman who they killed for driving erratically near the White House?

Shot her in the head

This guy was IN the White House

And its my understanding that some of the Obamas guests and relatives were in there

I have a theory about that, but it's a bit late to get rolling with it. Perhaps another time.

The dogs should have been released on his ass, if they weren't going to shoot, but it just staggers my imagination that the door couldn't have been automatically locked as soon as the fence crossing was detected.

She was driving her car at people. They shot her to stop her from hurting other people. This guy wasn't posing an imminent threat. And before you start claiming he could have had explosives remember this is the White House complex. They have the most sophisticated sensors for that sort of thing available.

And the Secret service doesn't protect random guests or relatives of protectees so even if what ever rumor you've heard is true it is irrelevant.

How does one interogate a dead man?

If anyone (especially a white Hispanic) kills THIS president, the race riots will go on for months, and the damage to the fabric of the nation will be irreparable

And if a white right wing asshole murders him what then?

And imagine "President Biden"

Imagine you with a iq above that of a stone.

He shouldn't be pleading anything. He should be dead. Also there would be no more fence jumpers.
