They don't? Do you really think those fire crews thought they could fight the fires in the WTC on 9/11?

If they knew the building was going to come down on them, dk, no

Being a professional in such fields doesn't automatically mean they are stupid or suicidal

And a fire is not a disease. Firemen are trained to properly handle such disasters, while ebola is an unknown that the inept clowns in charge of the CDC change the guidelines for on practically a daily basis

Here's how the critical care nurse I mentioned previously, kindly took the time to spell out her feelings on the matter:

quote:

When the first nurse in Texas became infected with Ebola, one of the first things that the CDC said was that it was the nurse's fault. She must not have used proper protocol for protection. When the 2nd nurse was possibly infected, many people blamed her for flying. The CDC did not even mention right away that the nurse checked with the CDC many times prior to flying. They just let her "hang" on her own, not backing her up at all. If a hazmat suit is required in order to treat that patient, then why didn't the CDC start advising hospitals to train it's employees on proper use just in case? It isn't something that can be trained properly in a day. It takes practice, it involves a buddy system. They went on about how we should not be worried about Ebola in the U.S. Out of 50 plus employees in our local critical care unit, only 1 nurse was even remotely interested in training how to take care of an Ebola patient. In the other 2 critical care units in the city, so far, not one of their nurses is willing to take part in the training. Right now, after much discussion amongst ourselves, we know that if for some reason we become infected, it would not surprise any of us if somehow the nurse will be "blamed". Somehow it will be all her fault for not practicing proper protocol, even if it was done; therefore, it would not fall under workman's comp.

I love my job. I can't imagine doing anything else for a living. At the same time, I have a family and children that I care deeply for. Why would I risk my health and my family with a disease that has a high mortality rate? I take care of patients with HIV, hepatitis and many other diseases and know how to practice proper precautions to take care of them; I am not worried at all about taking care of these patients. Ebola is so much more dangerous that I am not willing to risk it at all. In sixteen years, I have never been trained in hazmat. That's not a common thing we practice.

And yes, she does bring me meds if ever I need them.

And she does everything else she is told to do, as well...

She is a very good girl. [;)]

Seems obvious what's lacking is the proper training.

So properly train the nurses in the Ebola units, and let the ones who want to quit go work at Wal-Mart.

Its only been explained here a thousand times that the virus keeps finding its way through every barrier and protocol they try

So lets just make this easy, and properly train YOU for such a thankless, deadly job instead

Take the disease home to YOUR family

A little bit of sarcasm there, and yeah its a right wing source, but they are real CDC tweets

Exactly the opposite.

That's how a poor nation like Senegal manages to beat it.

Of course, they used science and common sense. That's going to be difficult for many Americans.

Senegal had only one case, a student from Guinea who recovered and returned to his home country, officials said...

...Senegal shares a 200-mile border with Guinea. So when an infected student brought the virus to Senegal in August, the country closed the border and also suspended air and sea contacts with the Ebola zone.

Nice try at pulling facts out of your ass, ken

Musicmystery -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 6:25:55 AM)

you...you....you mean the people who took care of the student didn't get sick and spread throughout the country as the "virus keeps finding its way through every barrier and protocol they try" ????

Imagine that.

Again, professor

They didn't take care of him

Reading comprehension has never been your forte, has it

Musicmystery -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 6:33:38 AM)

Actually it has. If you had bothered to read your own link, you'd have seen this about how Senegal and Nigeria defeated Ebola:

Public awareness campaigns

Nigeria and Senegal launched major public awareness campaigns to educate their citizens about Ebola, encourage the sick to seek treatment and dispel dangerous rumors.

In Nigeria, teams were dispatched to about 26,000 households near people who may have been exposed to the virus, the CDC said.

Senegal encouraged public cooperation by providing assistance to those who had come into contact with its patient in the form of money, food and counseling. The government also sought to protect their identities along with that of the patient.

“They didn’t turn them, if you will, into pariahs,” Pham said. “It’s the right thing to do, but also good policy.”

Seems they were not only treated, but also treated rather well.

And yet . . . no more Ebola in their countries.

HeartAndSoul31 -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 6:52:25 AM)

Ridiculous. Medical staff take an oath and not providing that care is negligent. If care is denied to patients, then they need to find a new career path.

Aylee -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 6:56:00 AM)

In regards to several of the cases, most noted, the one in NYC now, if the medical professionals can't understand and accept the meaning of isolation, why would we expect the general population to do so?

The U.S. hasn't, as a country, had any real experience with quarantine and disease in somewhere between two and three generations. (generations being 25 years or so..)

We don't *culturally* remember why breaking quarantine is very different from breaking curfew or sneaking out when grounded.

Musicmystery -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 6:57:22 AM)

Then Americans are not very bright. It's not a difficult concept.

HeartAndSoul31 -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 7:00:16 AM)

Health care workers for safety reasons, , should work ONLY with isolation areas of Ebola and absolutely in no other area, due to cross contamination dangers. Not giving care to patients is unacceptable and not even an option.

Hee hee. Well darling, here is a concept. We will plead stupidity if you ever need care. Because ya know we only care about ourselves, not you at all.

Tsk tsk.

Musicmystery -> RE: Withholding care (10/24/2014 7:27:21 AM)

1) I'm not your darling. Never will be.

2) It's in response to another poster. Sorry they didn't teach irony at your school.

3) Thanks for inventing a totally different message to attack than the one posted. You'll fit right into this forum's ridiculousness nicely.

4) The point remains -- hey, it's a serious disease, you need to honor quarantine, is not a difficult concept to grasp. I'm sure we can manage it without "cultural memory."

5) Learn to read before snarking. Tsk tsk.

6) Pay attention. Until you got your fur up, we were arguing the same point.

1) Should I call you Elk? or Moose?
2) Cant you tell I didn't go to school?
3) Your welcome.
4) I think you are right. I will go into isolation.
5) I am sorry, I am unable to define those big words.
6) Oh goody. Then we are on the same page. I am over the moon. New book different chapter.

Glad we got that all cleaned up.
