Bull... the link is there ...if you want it look... it is the same link you have been talking about... for the news stories do the same they are there... if you give a crap about knowing look.. if not I am not doing the work for you... the truth is there I don't give a crap whether you look for it or not.

If the information was hard to find I would do it... but its not.

Butch

Stop hiding behind your bland assertion and find the links you claim exist. For the most part, the majority of Muslims leaders worldwide spoke out against 9/11s horrific attacks.

Thanks for the links lucy.

There seems to be a paucity of actual evidence to support claims of widespread celebrations in the Muslim world following 9/11.

The evidence produced to date appears to rely heavily on a single piece of dubious footage showing "happy Palestinians" allegedly "celebrating' 9/11". I reviewed this evidence briefly in post #134 and found it fails to convince (to say the least). Against this the politifact link confirms widespread condemnation of 9/11 across the Arab/Muslim world. So while it seems likely that the horrors of 9/11 found favour in some isolated Muslim/Arab quarters, this support appears limited in extent and there appears to be no reason to suppose this support was widespread or representative.

Easy to see why kdsub is either unable or unwilling to post links supporting his claims. One is forced to wonder why some individuals posting here are so heavily invested in spreading these dubious claims. Possible explanations range from genuine error based in ignorance or misinformation through to raving Islamophobia.

That long derail meant that there was no discussion of the popular response of Sydney people to the siege - best exemplified by the #illridewithyou hashtag on Twitter.

Often Muslims using public transport have been singled out for abuse and sometimes violence following terrorist actions in the past. People used this hashtag to volunteer to ride with anyone who felt threatened. We wanted to reassure our Muslim community that they were part of us and abuse or violence towards them was unacceptable to us.

One of the reasons that motivated me and many of my friends to join in this movement was to deny the home grown bigots and right wing thugs the chance to attack Muslims en masse and whip up more hatred. For too many times these nasty types have seized the initiative following some terrorist outrage. They made such a din it was impossible for more moderate saner voices to be heard.bigots

We seemed to be successful at stopping them. The usual suspects - Rightwingers, shock jocks, etc - seemed unsure how to react to this popular response and for once were silent or muted in their words. It took them several days to work out how to complain or criticise this movement and even then those criticisms sounded contrived and hollow.

It was good to see that for once the voices of ordinary people - who want no part of prejudice and bigotry - speaking louder than the bigots. Can people see similar actions taking place in other locations? How best can we prevent the voices of bigotry dominating response to terrorism?

There is the fact that the #illridewithyou was based on a lie. But hey, it fits the narrative, right?

You might also take into consideration that there has been no increase in Muslim victims of crime following 9/11.

But again, it is the narrative that is important, not the truth.

"paucity of actual claims?"

here is one site that aggregated a large handful. it only took me just a minute to find it.

http://www.blackfive.net/main/2012/09/muslims-celebrated-the-sep-11-attacks.html

you will see the page takes first hand accounts from Germany, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iran and even Washington DC. Note in particular the documentary linked at the end. http://www.memrifilms.org/9-11-five-years-later.php

while im here---its interesting to note that the only thing liberals have in common with fundamental islam is their mutual hatred for America. They (the Muslims) are in stark disagreement with everything else you (the liberals) hold dear and if you found yourself living in a true Muslim state (which is their goal) you would be either oppressed, jailed, or executed for your beliefs and lifestyle.

If you are going to quote me, please do so accurately. I stated that there was a "paucity of actual evidence", not a "paucity of actual claims?", as appears in your post. There is a difference and in this particular context, that difference is significant.

The integrity of the links you supplied to support your claims leaves a lot to be desired. The people responsible for the second link you supplied MEMRI (http://www.memrifilms.org/9-11-five-years-later.php) are notorious as an Israeli Intelligence front and supplier of misinformation and dubious translations that favour Israeli interests and disadvantage those of Israel's enemies and perceived enemies, all at the expense of the truth. Check out this report (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/aug/12/worlddispatch.brianwhitaker) detailing MEMRI's shady structure, past and activities.

Even leaving that substantial reservation aside and, for the purposes of this discussion only, granting that the claims in your links have some merit, it is clear that the evidence from your links is mainly personal opinions, second hand accounts and other anecdotal evidence. I don't recall a single instance of a first hand account involving more than a handful of people. This out of a total of one and a half billion Muslims worldwide.

By any measure that amounts to a "paucity of actual evidence".

if you look closely, you will notice I didn't say "islam is responsible for honor killings." I said, that they predominantly occur in muslim cultures (which also takes care of your objection about them not being unique to islam---I didn't suggest they were).

ironically, this quote from one of your links supports what I am suggesting: "While there is no Quranic justification for honour killing, it is unfortunately true that many of the perpetrators believe themselves justified by their faith."

however, your professor of women's issues limited her comment to the Koran.

it may indeed be true, but the Koran does not represent the sum total of faith life for muslims. some of writings in the hadith collections speak to it, here's one for instance: "I fear that with the passage of time a person might say, ‘We do not find mention of stoning in the Book of Allah and thereby go astray by leaving out an obligation revealed by Allah. Verily, the stoning of a adulterer/ress is found in the Quraan and is the truth, if the witnesses are met or there is a pregnancy or confession."
