1. Shooting sprees are not rare in the United States.

2. Gun ownership in the United States is declining overall, but nearly a third of households still have a gun.

3. Active shooter events have become more common in recent years

4. Of the 12 deadliest shootings in the United States, six have happened from 2007 onward.

5. America is an unusually violent country. But we're not as violent as we used to be.

6. The South is the most violent region in the United States.

7. More guns tend to mean more homicide.

8. States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence.

9. Gun control, in general, has not been politically popular -- and its popularity has been declining lately.

10. While general gun control isn't that popular, particular policies are.

Did you include that if blacks shooting blacks are separated from our statistics then the US is way down on the list of violent countries?

cloudboy -> RE: Unidentified Man attacks Black Church in SC (6/19/2015 8:52:11 AM)

Nevermind....couldn't post what I wanted.

cloudboy -> RE: Unidentified Man attacks Black Church in SC (6/19/2015 8:57:41 AM)

84 percent of white homicide victims are killed by white people. Have you factored that into your thinking? (I'm using the term "thinking" loosely here.)

If we screened these homicides out, the overall figures would decline even more.

tweakabelle -> RE: Unidentified Man attacks Black Church in SC (6/19/2015 8:57:44 AM)

According to CNN:
"Dylann Roof admits he did it, two law enforcement officials said -- shooting and killing nine people he'd sat with for Bible study at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

But why? To start a race war, Roof told investigators, according to one of the officials.

CNN's Evan Perez and Wesley Bruer were the first to report Roof's confession. Others earlier gave a glimpse into his twisted motivation -- including at the time and site of the shooting, Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. There, a survivor told Sylvia Johnson that Roof answered one man's pleas to stop by saying, "No, you've raped our women, and you are taking over the country ... I have to do what I have to do."

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/06/19/us/charleston-church-shooting-main/index.html?sr=cnnitw

So we have an armed man deliberately targetting and terrorising civilians in order to achieve a political objective. That's pretty much the standard definition of a terrorist isn't it?

If the word 'terrorist' has any meaning, Roof was a terrorist, as much a terrorist as IS, Al Quada, Hamas and the Israeli Defence Force (IDF).

You really cant think of any differences between a lone madman and Islamists... ?

cloudboy -> RE: Unidentified Man attacks Black Church in SC (6/19/2015 9:01:56 AM)

This is as depraved as any massacre can be. If the victims at the Christian church were white and the perp were Muslim, Sanity would be more concerned and alarmed.

Domestic Terrorism doesn't really concern him.

He probably doesn't believe we can curb domestic terrorism, but somehow thinks we can curb it abroad. Each is a noble goal, but BUSH's "War on Terrorism" only made things worse.

Yes, as I'm not at all dramatic, you don't consider it thinking. Drama being such an important part of critical thinking. And, yes, I'm aware that 84% of white homicide victims are killed by whites. Now you may flounce.

"Depraved" meaning the act of someone who has been diagnosed with psychiatric disorders? Someone who is essentially insane?

Ever heard of tardive dyskinesia

It is a common side effect of certain psyche meds

The following symptoms can be signs of tardive dyskinesia: ...Protruding the tongue involuntarily.

Actually, it's very well established that more guns equals less crime.

Yep. Sanity is a bit hasty in labelling him a "lone madman". At this point we don't know if any others were involved or not, and Roof's depravity is consistent with that of a fanatic, not a lunatic. There are lot of unanswered questions at this point in time. Hopefully things will become clearer with time.

On the evidence available now, Roof is a terrorist, a domestic white far right racist terrorist.

Its normal for certain far left knuckle draggers here to obsess over me, try to make every thread about me

They have learned that they cannot beat me in an honorable debate so they go full troll more or less automatically. Daily, as a matter of course

Except I'll grant you males kill much more than females and am very willing to discuss it. In this country, well actually everywhere in the west, we're not allowed to discuss problems in minority communities. Even here, my reflex training said minority instead of black.

So just as is normal, you either miss the point or try and deflect it.

Now now little Tweaka. I know you want to hurt me so bad it makes you tremble. But, this is really a pathetic attempt. By the way, you lied when you said you'd ignore me.

HunterCA -> RE: Unidentified Man attacks Black Church in SC (6/19/2015 9:40:33 AM)

Here's what I believe.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/19/us/charleston-church-shooting.html?ref=todayspaper

quote:

At Morris Brown A.M.E. Church here, blacks, whites, Christians and Jews gathered to proclaim that a racist gunman would not divide a community already tested by the fatal police shooting in April of an unarmed African-American, Walter Scott.

While you knuckle daggers are trying to score a pathetic political point "all" of the people in charleston are gathered together as a unified group in anguish. Kinda makes you knuckle draggers upset it's not segregated mourning doesn't it?
