Methane gas from landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, ag uses, and potting soil manufacturing makes a nice alternative and renewable fuel source. I also believe it is cheaper than solar and nuclear plants to produce.

It isn't necessarily profit making but it does work.

Its not a renewable source of energy. Its a by product of existing problems and products.

Joe, In case you haven't noticed, methane is naturally occuring. Is the by-product of feces and plant digestion.

One example is using the out-gas from a composting toilet and pipe to a catalytic heater to keep the water trough in the barn from freezing. It isn't really high cost for basic materials. And a leaf pile can feed a composter for the winter if you live in an area with a lot of deciduous trees.

Gas trapping a municipal dump would be a lot more problematical than a closed bin composter for a farm or ranch.

IBM has a suggestion program. When I suggested they use the methane from their plant septics, they said, nice idea, they were already piping it into storage and using it.

Yes, overall this has been a great source of fuel that has been generally untapped and for the better part of a century. I understand that the Chinese are experimenting with tapping the methane from termite colonies.

That would make it a by product. Naturally occurring would be hydro or solar power.
