Breitbart claims that, and he hasn't been proven wrong again and again...

I have friends and family in Germany, you would think they'd mention something like that, especially if they are living in cities you mentioned? I'm still in touch with a few ex-colleagues , trust me, if Merkel would have really requested that it would have been the biggest scandal ever, especially since Merkel is not very well liked by the more left leaning media...

Seriously, if Breitbart (he's about as credible as Lush Rimbaugh) would tell me the sky is blue, I'd double check.

German is my 2nd language, English my 3rd, I'm very fluent in German and as I said, lots of friends and family there, yet no word of it, not from friends in Berlin, not from friends in Cologne, not from the ones in Hamburg, Stuttgart or Duesseldorf... Btw, something you might not know all those towns are pretty big media centers (Stuttgart possibly a bit less) and each of the towns is a capital of the Bundesland, with the media and (welcome to the 21st century) SOCIAL MEDIA, there is just NO WAY it could have been swept under the carpet. It's just simple reality.

Edited to add: Absolute BS that Breitbart was the first to report on it, but maybe Breitbart hasn't got a clue what the BBC is, or that actually almost all the major German media have bilingual websites...

it shouldn't be too much of a problem then to show a fair number of instances where what you are claiming has indeed been the case. could you please?

personal anecdotes and experience are not unimportant, and they are a part of an overall picture, but they do not overrule a news report, nor does the absence of confirmation from that source disprove, or even lend doubt to a news report.

the exact quote, which you are kinda misrepresenting, or maybe not reading carefully, was:

quote:

Breitbart London was the first English language news site to report on the Cologne sex attacks this week,

LadyConstanze -> RE: Feminists Condone PC Rape (1/7/2016 9:43:47 AM)

http://www.thelocal.de/20160104/refugees-blamed-for-mass-sexual-assault-in-cologne

One report, just a quick google, in English, you may notice the date on it....

Regarding Breitbart, just stuff I remember, top of my head, ACORN, there were quite a few where he edited videos to distort the truth...

So the question is do I trust people who were actually there or some loud idiot who's been proven untrustworthy again and again?

I don't doubt that something happened and I am all for getting at the bottom of it, but rational people who are living in countries that have functioning jurisdiction tend to ask for evidence first before they start condemning people who might be innocent.

I said it in another post, it does look like it is organized, but I doubt that it's refugees that are behind it, that would be similar to cutting off your nose to spite your face, it just doesn't make much sense, people who organize something like that don't do it on a whim, too much behind. The guilty ones should be punished and that requires the police doing a lot of work. Having worked for a very long time in the media, it's normal not to give every information out, come on, even people who don't work in the media know that the papers always keep some detail out, because it makes the work of the police easier when it comes to identifying which of the calls they get are prank calls and which of them are serious, that stuff is pretty important, imagine the time the police would waste otherwise with false leads, time the criminals gain...

bounty44 -> RE: Feminists Condone PC Rape (1/7/2016 9:56:47 AM)

videos that "distort truth" are matters of interpretation and differing opinion and are quite a far cry from "being proven wrong again and again."

there is no "breitbart" as in an individual person---its a news/commentarty organization with a conservative bent. if you friends/colleagues living in the area are actually involved law enforcement or journalism, then they have more credence. otherwise, its foolish to expect the average citizen to know more about certain issues than the people who are covering it as a story.

whats more, if you look at the article, their facts in the case here are being drawn from german references.

if one reads those german references though (was ich kann, du nicht) they (Stuttgarter Zeitung, Berliner Morgenpost, Spiegel) in fact do NOT support what Breitbart claims to be facts ...

Breitbart did some counting right, but of events that (emphasized in EVERY quoted article) had no connection to what happened in Cologne

LadyConstanze -> RE: Feminists Condone PC Rape (1/7/2016 10:23:30 AM)

Heavily edited videos to support a slant when the real video shows that what you claim is BS is distorting the truth

Actually it seems to me that they just more or less copied the German article and put a bit of their own slant on it.

I called up a friend who's still working for a very respected magazine who happens to be based in one of the cities where it happened, he said everybody is puzzled, however in the aftermath of the attacks, there were some revenge attacks on people perceived to be Muslims or refugees, the media was asked to not write a lot about it, the reason is to avoid people getting ideas and the rabble going out and beating everybody up who they think might look suspicious, basically to stop the far right from organizing a lynch mob like under Hitler when synagogues burned.

We briefly discussed who could be behind it, as we said it makes no sense that refugees would go through so much organization and do something like that, because it endangers their status, it seems fairly obvious that the only ones who have anything to gain from such attacks are interested in cutting off escapes for refugees or the right wingers who hate refugees...
Pretty logic, though in my book, it could be orchestrated by the extreme right, or it could be orchestrated by ISIS because they aren't interested that the refugees find places to go. Time will tell, but I am pretty sure that the police is more than busy at the moment.

For me it just makes no sense to attack the wrong people, it's not going to achieve anything, I want the people who orchestrated it punished just as hard as the people who took part in the crime. I hope the logical approach doesn't offend anybody.

Additionally, the attacks occurred near a predominantly muslim area, that has a history of violence against women.

I think you're off base on this one.

the attacks occured in the immediate vicinity of Cologne cathedral - did you have that one in mind?

I think you are misinformed on this one (only?)

Im so glad you ladies are here:) I have too much on my mind to get know the background of this situation.
I bow to your posts:)

PS...I wonder how many women (and men) have been attacked, violated and or assaulted by a bunch of soccer hooligans after a match in the surge of bodies that leave the stadiums??
.
yeah personal anecdote, i dont care how irrelevant it maybe, but it happens a lot more than is reported.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Feminists Condone PC Rape (1/7/2016 11:58:26 AM)

As for the soccer thing, you know I used to take a lot of trains, Munich, Hamburg and Stuttgart (editorial offices) and I damned quick learned to check when there were football games, you do not want to be stuck on a train or even waiting at a station with a bunch of drunk football fans, groping was the least that happened... Apparently a few beers reminded those guys of their good given right to grab any part on a girl they liked... Fun times...

Lucylastic -> RE: Feminists Condone PC Rape (1/7/2016 12:13:30 PM)

Given that I left the uk when I was 28, most of my experience of soccer idiots was growing up in a football town, and the change station from most points north of london to get to wembley, who come down early , stay over night in the town and travel up to wembley on game day. The town and pubs were inundated with liverpool, everton fans, Rangers and City fans and lancashire, yorkshire teams for rugby. Most weekends then of course we were playing our own games as well.
I went to my first local game when I was 7. I was a fan and used to go to matches, I got a job in my local pub selling pub food on those weekends at 16, and partied with soccer fans and rugby fans from all over the place.. up until I met my husband. .MUCH fun, until they got drunk and used the town as a riot route.
If you were in the crowd of fans leaving the game , you were liable to be groped, pushed, punched by a passing twunt pissed that his team lost.

I will stop there because the topic is the german situation and I have nothing of value to add.
Drunk people in crowds are dangerous.

Absolute bollocks.

I have been to matches all over England for years. Following my team.

I have seen a lot of fighting, including people getting stabbed (one in the neck, in London).

And England has a history of being a lot more lawless than Germany in terms of its working class.

And, I have never, ever, seen women being harassed on trains or anywhere else. So, no chance that happened in Germany.

Sure, obviously you were there, obviously you lived years in Germany...

You make it through a big train station full of drunk soccer fans as a woman and if you aren't groped, you possibly have 2 cops as body guards next to you, the only thing that's comparable is taking a train out of Munich around the Octoberfest. Because you think you change the country drunk assholes are going to change all of a sudden?

Football as in soccer seems to appeal to a certain mindset, not people I like to associate with. If their team loses, they're drunk and pissed off, if their team wins, they're drunk and think they are invincible. Why on earth would the police force be reinforced A LOT whenever there is a big football game? And why are there a ton of incidents...

But hey, you know best anyway, btw it so makes sense that you follow your team, what's the expression? Lager louts?

You're one of those who goes to Africa, comes back with a band on your wrist, and declares to all sundry your with the poor while retiring to middle class suburbia populated solely by snobs who never see anything but a white face.
