What football violence is actually about is pretty ritual with not a lot violence actually going on.

Lemme ask you this: "you talk about being shocked at the violence" - but did you actually see any violence? Or did you see people just being marched down the street by the police?

What actually happens with football violence is that you could have a mob of say 150. And a good hundred of those couldn't fight sleep, aren't interested in any violence and are more than happy to stay within the confines of a police escort. In that mob of say 150 you probably have around 20/30 who are actually there to fight and maybe a couple of shit heads who if they get the other lot on the back foot they'll take part and kick someone in the head when they no there's no chance of getting hurt. You have a few sadists in there who will stab someone given the opportunity.

The idea that football matches contain a lot of violent people and 'women being groped' was started by the Tories for two reasons.

Firstly, easy points scoring for the police - talk it up as a serious threat and then make arrest - because these people ain't hardened criminals - 99% don't have a conviction away from football - so they ain't well versed in escaping the clutches of the law. Set 'em up as a threat and then arrest them - makes it look like the police are doing a good job.

Secondly, the Tories hate anything working class. They did the same with the miners. Made the miners out to be crooks. The Tories set out to systematically destroy anything working class a long time back.

Seems a couple of our 'liberal' posters have bought the Tory line.

Believe me, more than half of those blokes you saw escorted down the street, while they may have been making noise, have probably never had a fight in their lives.

Oh, and police overtime on a Saturday - easy coin mate.

I assume you're talking about A mob, just the one??
Down here, you'll find that at every 100 yards or so on every street leading in/out of the stadium.
And yes, have actually seen the violence going on.
And yes, have had my wipers ripped off and windows/lights smashed by supporters on both sides while trying to get home and just happen to pass the stadium at the wrong time.
And those poor bastards that live in adjoining streets that can no longer get damage insurance because of constant claims of smashed windows and doors and wrecked cars.

Not a lot of violence?? It happens... regularly, despite police presence.
You must live in some quiet backwater NG coz it does happen a lot and at a lot of grounds.

there are women not only watching football matches (not in the telly but in real life) but even some who play football themselves - even in teams - even national football leagues, international tournaments

und ich meine echten Fußball, nicht diesen amerikanischen Witz - maybe the server you and I post messages is in the US though - it is called Internet, but you certainly know that

I did, I said some people are asshole class, which has nothing to do with whatever chip they have on their shoulder about their background, it's the class they create for themselves by their behaviour and actions.

This perceived class system in the 21st century is pretty ridiculous anyway, I always say "I work, so that must make me working class", what your parents or grandparents did for work is so freaking irrelevant, just as irrelevant as eye, hair or skin colour or where you happen to be born, not like anybody worked hard for their parents or grandparents social station...

You're still not talking about women being groped, which was my initial point.

I know all about the violence, believe me.

But most of it is ritual, and I can guarantee you that in that mob of 150 at least 100 are all front and no action.

And, it doesn't happen very much at all now because you get a four year stretch for hoying a punch at a football match which has deterred a lot of people.

I go to matches in London, at some of the more likely suspects, West Ham, Millwall, etc; and those two, two of the worst back in the day, would be lucky to pull 50 these days. Too much to lose.

Again, you've read too many newspapers.

I'm talking about what happens at my local grounds every time there is a local match on.
Our lady friend and an ex-colleague who lives within 300 yards of said stadium, gives us the gruesome details.
We happen to live less than 100 yards of the local (lower league) football team and it happens right here on my doorstep too!
At the local xmas friendly game, when it was all over and finished, there were several wrecked cars, a broken cemetery wall (car crashed into it), and two local women that got raped.
I also heard that one of the local bus drivers was assaulted by fans.

Not newsworthy for the papers but when the local constabulary come round asking if we had seen anything, that is reality at work.

My son's GF was raped last year.
She stabbed the guy with a school compass.
It's on her social services report (yes, I read some of it when she was here with her social worker).
Never made it to the local news or even the local papers.

[ETA: Wanna see the damage done to MY car after one of the local football matches??
Two sections of my wind deflectors broken in a scuffle outside my house!!
It'll cost over £1,000 to get it repaired. Yes, it was reported to the police.
My insurance covers riots but not passing football hooliganism.]

Not every little thing makes newsworthy reports.
It might be like that where you are in the wilds but in the towns and cities - shit happens that doesn't reach the news.

you call me a liar.. thats fine, but my personal experiences arent. Im purposefully not sharing what happened, but im talking about the seventies and 80s where rape was rarely reported on unless the victim was wealthy, gang raped, extremely hurt or left for dead.
you wont impune my experiences with your ignorance.

You've gone one step farther with the 'two women have been raped' line.
