SusanofO -> RE: From Dom to Master.... (7/18/2006 9:32:15 PM)

Maybe I am being too technically focussed here, but I always thought that if someone was a Master, that the other person (their partner) needed to be a slave, not a submissive, and that otherwise, the partner was, in fact, a Dominant and not a Master. There are tons of threads here on exactly what constitutes the difference between a submssive and a slave, but, I always thought a slave had: 1) Her Master's limits and 2) No real right to refuse a Master anything he asked. Whereas, a submissve has: Activity and a relationship with a Dominant within pre-arranged and negotiated boundaries and limits. So, perhaps (for me), calling someone Master would need to mean - I considered myself to be their slave. If they simply like their submissives and slaves to refer to them as Master (no matter whether that partner is a submissive or a slave), I suppose I could do that, too (as long as they knew I was a submssive, still). I am sure there are as many varied opinions on this as there are people. But this has been my understanding of these two terms, for myself, for many months now. - Susan
