This may not nessesarly be strictly a BSDM question, but how many doms like it
when their sub dresses up in a long sleeve shirt/blouse which is buttoned all the way to the neck with
a rather big shirt/blouse collar, and either long pants or a long floor length skirt while the dom wears more casual clothes such as
a t shirt and bermuda or cargo shorts? I am a sub and I find it a turn on when I have to be dressed up while everybody else
wears casuals. Interestingly enough, i had this desire/fetish long before I even hit puberty (it started with me having to wear
full length pajamas or a house coat done all the way up while everybody wore street clothes and sort of evolved from there).

This is probaly more of a question for a forum such as collarlovers, but i'd like to hear some input here.

I'm sure there would be some.
I prefer easy access clothes. Kinda the opposite of constrictive and formal.

funny thing was, for the most part I used to dress in non
formal/casual clothing most of the time, and only get dressed up when the urge to dress formal became overwhelming. Now I dress at least semi formal most of the time, and there is no desire left to go back to casuals.

Yes, most people would rather wear sweat pants and a t shirt, but for me, i dont feel right in anything less formal than a long floor length skirt, a blouse buttoned all the way up at the neck (i am wearing a denim blouse with a huge buttoned up 70s
style collar, but this is as casual as I will get) and 2 silk scarves done up in a fancy way under my collar and down the
front. :) I guess I am a bit of a throwback to Victorian and Edwardian times even though I am Gen-X (39) :)

Nothing wrong with that at all. I like wearing nice clothes too. Button up shirts, trousers... I even use suspenders regularly. Although... I did go to one of those self-wash carwashes the other day, and washed my car in my pyjamas @_@

I meant I like easy access clothes on women, but I have no doubt there would be guys happy to enforce the kind of dress code you're interested in. Sounds like youd make a pretty nice looking secretary ^_~

No, it's not unusual at all - lots of people are into 50's style or Victorian era dress.

It's extremely usual. no matter what kind of formal clothing it is you can think of it as an uniform you are required to wear while serving your Master.
I would say it's more common for the uniform a sub wears to be as sensual, revealing and provocative as possible but anything can be used as a uniform that the sub must wear.

like Crazyml mentions there's lots of people that are into 50's style or Victorian era dresses.

I'm one to wear slacks with a belt and either a shirt and tie or a polo shirt to school. Needless to say, I stick out like a sore thumb, but it isn't a matter of any fetish. It's a belief that people dress far too casually in too many situations where casual should not be the uniform of the day.

I will never understand a guy, taking his lady to a sit-down restaurant and showing up more poorly dressed than the wait staff.

Anyway, to the nitty-gritty of the post: I'll be brutally honest (and probably get myself in trouble) and say that I fondly remember an old "Dear Abby" quote: "A female should wear clothes tight enough to show she's a woman, but loose enough to show she's a lady"

As far as the covering up: I'm not really into that, but neither am I into having my ladies "on display" (except in certain situations). That said, I don't think I would object to indulging this kind of fetish, occasionally.

I second this. I wear pants about once every week or so, if that. (Not including wicked comfortable and totally sexy plaid flannel pajama pants, of course.) That was my own choice a year or so ago. Unless you are told not to dress that way, why not dress that way? The right person will find it appealing.

I like to make my sub dress very covered like you describe sometimes because I may have her tied or constrained a certain way under her clothes and only we know it. For me that is a lot of fun. Other times I like to make her dress very provocatively and be the center of attention in a given situation to which she cannot respond to the attention. Both are control over her in social settings.

Understandable. Quite normal. Being made to wear something different from what other women wear in any situation is normal for you and many other submissive women. Take, for example, the collar worn in public and being forced to wear it. Another is being forced to stand on the top deck of a two story house on a cold winter morning with nothing but a hot cup of coffee, high heels and your long hair to keep you warm; I know of a submissive woman who loves that but cannot do it unless forced.

I think I can see the dilemma. Take me as an example: my uniform looks like this:

Very low maintenance! On the other hand you want your dominant to make you work. I used to think that I should present myself to my master like I wanted to take him to the prom, nicely dressed, well groomed, with a whiff of cologne ... completely wrong! Point being, you can't choose what kind of effort you get to make.

Seems like two questions. There's the first about formal dress (personally, I adore formal, downright anachronistic dress for a girl).

Second, there's the contrast. Formal attire at an office might be close to the norm. Formal at home really has no audience beyond the One who dressed you. Formal at a backyard barbecue provides loads of conflict. It might be that its the Dominant's will that you become a focus of attention that you like so much, even as the outfit itself is less than comfortable and forces you to continually focus on how it feels. Backyards in summertime can be hot, hot places.

If you're going to wear something high-necked and longsleeved on order for something like that, you're either hiding the signs of obedience or you're being made to showcase and dwell on things. Both of those can be very good.

All masters have a dress code of one complexion or another.
I personally like the idea of outdoors and indoors dress codes to be different. So outdoors full length dress and high neckline. Whilst indoors a toga or nothing at all.
It is personal choice but do take the point that the master dictates the dress code not the slave. So how can you say you like to be forced to wear something you enjoy wearing?
I do get the context though about childhood stretching into adulthood experience and a wish to regain a time in the past.
