~FRing it~

While this isn't a thread about Awareness, I tend to view him along the same lines as Ishtar. Asshole doesn't mean unreasonable in my eyes either.

Back to the OP. He had taken over instructions as far as your diet went. You yourself said you agreed. He told you to eat airpopped popcorn. You want your oil corn, so you want to quibble over it and split hairs? How about doing it his way just because that's what he asked...and its no skin off your back to comply? It's not like he is telling you to sprinkle rat poison on your popcorn because it's healthier than non-rat poison laced popcorn.

satanscharmer -> RE: My New Dom Is Trying To Change My Eating Habits (3/3/2016 6:20:30 PM)

Fr

I hope Awareness feels the love. How did this thread turn into being about him, anyway?

Christ, this is about popcorn. Popcorn.
If it's that big of a deal to you, OP, by all means stand your ground. But if something so small, such as how a snack is prepared, carries that much importance then I can only imagine how many other times you'll take a stand. I believe in choosing battles wisely.

Theater popcorn for all!

Greta75 -> RE: My New Dom Is Trying To Change My Eating Habits (3/3/2016 7:17:30 PM)

Lol, talking about unreasonable Awareness behaviour, Kaliko just gave an example in dishwashing thread.

You know, unreasonable behaviour can just be intentionally being annoying sometimes, but does not cause harm.

Unreasonable = Absurd

UllrsIshtar -> RE: My New Dom Is Trying To Change My Eating Habits (3/3/2016 7:34:23 PM)

Not at all, that behavior wasn't in the slightest unreasonable.
In fact, she even lists his reason for it: he doesn't like the sink greasy and tied up with dirty dishes, and he knows from experience that, despite her best intentions, she's going to keep them there for a while.

Whether or not you agree with his reason is a while different matter, but he totally has a reason for it, and the reason makes sense. Though you may not care about the issue to the same degree he seems to, that doesn't make him unreasonable, just demanding.

Now if he'd be unreasonable about the whole issue, he could for example expect something ridiculous like: no dirty plate is to ever, not even for a moment, be in the sink, or on the counter top, and Kaliko is instead expected to carry a single plate from the dining room table, wash it immediately, dry it, put it away, and then go get the next plate. That would be unreasonable, because it would be senseless, and pointless.

The situation as it is just means that he's demanding, and cares about maintaining different standards than you would (or Kaliko would apparently). Nothing unreasonable about it. Just different from your personal preferences.

That sounds unreasonable to me, but perhaps, because I always soap wash and scrub my entire sink after I finish washing dishes in them. So sink with dirty plates in them doesn't matter, because sink gets scrub clean with dirty plates anyway. Like I got the opposite thing, I never put dirty plates on table top, as it's harder to wash the table tops, after the dirty plates touches them. Much easier to clean a sink to make it really free from grease than to clean a table top. I don't think his logic makes any sense. I think he was just being difficult on purpose. On top of that, what's the logic of preferring greasy table top to greasy sinks? Since his logic was that the sink will get grease if the plates touches them.

And she did say she was washing those dishes immediately in the sink.

I'm sure in the case of Kaliko and Awareness, because Awareness has a track record of being reasonable and sensible, as well as caring about making decisions that are actually beneficial for Kaliko, instead of making them purely on his own whim.

I think Kaliko digs Awareness being unreasonable :)

If that's the case, she's with the wrong dude, cause I don't think I've ever seen him be unreasonable.
An asshole, sure, but unreasonable (acting without reason/thought) nope.
Unreasonable has two meanings. One is indeed, "without reason", however the meaning which is more commonly used - and which applies in this case - is "beyond the limits of acceptability or fairness".

Just to give you an idea, sample synonyms for "unreasonable" include "difficult", "unhelpful", "disobliging", "contrary" and "uncooperative".

George Bernard Shaw once said - and I'm rather fond of this quote - "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

If a Dom wishes to mould a sub's behaviour - behaviour that she is perfectly happy with - being unreasonable is essential. The impetus to modify that behaviour comes from the Dom, not the sub. Stretching her boundaries, helping her grow requires you to be unreasonable and push her right out of her comfort zone.

So yes, I am unreasonable, however Greta is also correct. Kaliko likes the curmudgeonly type and she responded positively to a guy who told her in email, "Skype with me or fuck off" and who told her a couple of years later, "Right, that's it - no more grains".

I suspect it's partially because there's a certain blunt honesty to it. Many men try and masquerade as an idealised version of themselves by presenting a facade to women online, and indeed, in real life. The curmudgeon - the unreasonable man - effectively says, "Look, these are the terms of engagement. Choose."

Ultimately, though, being unreasonable wouldn't get me very far if I wasn't a positive influence in her life. No human being with an ounce of self-respect is going to continue in a situation which is detrimental to their health and happiness. And that goes double if they have children.

Part of this is because America has no decent fucking sinks.

In Australia, you have the sink and on either side you have two areas of stainless steel. One to stack the dishes in a dish drainer - this area is corrugated slightly and angles into the sink so the water drains away. The other area is to - gasp - stack dishes prior to washing them in the sink.

I've never seen such an arrangement in America - it drives me nuts.

Christ, this forum is kinky.

LadyPact -> RE: My New Dom Is Trying To Change My Eating Habits (3/4/2016 4:51:16 AM)

Except it wasn't. In the cute little conversation that Kaliko posted, he very specifically pointed out to her that, no, she leaves them there all of the time. So, even if *this* time she was going to do them right away, there are at least *some* times that they aren't done immediately. What he's telling her is that there are not two different rules for where the dishes will be prior to her washing them, because the times she doesn't wash them immediately, he's got a reason for not wanting them in the sink.

Coincidentally, I'm the same way. If a person is going to use just a dish or a glass, and not something that amounts to a whole load of dishes, it gets rinsed off and put on the counter to the left side of the sink. One, I don't want my sink having things in it when I need to go and use it. Two, anything that gets put into the sink, I just have to take out again, so I can fill the sink with water when it is time to do the dishes. Three, it allows me to organize the dishes in the order that I'm going to wash them. Since I have multiple reasons for not wanting them in the sink, the last thing it can be called is unreasonable.

So wouldn't oil popped popcorn be healthier?
No. The oil you're using is a soy/canola mix and both of those things are unhealthy.

I'd personally suggest using coconut oil.

I may be starting to fail to keep up with all of this. And I was doing so well!

Strangely I am getting a subliminal message, from deep in my conscience, to go and do the dishes.

Eat the cookie, don't eat the cookie, sorry popcorn, the choice is yours.

For sinks like that, you will see them in America. What you are describing is more the type that you will see in restaurants, where it's a high volume of dishes, and yes, they do flow left to right.

I sincerely wish I had kept a picture of my kitchen in Alaska. It would have driven you nuts.

I am going to wash LadyPact's dishes they way she wants them done so they get done.

and I'm enjoying this conversation about how healthy popcorn and popcorn oil is.

pop me some pop corn I'm enjoying the show!

oh wait isn't this how the oil situation appeared because of the whole popcorn situation?

Cool. I wasn't aware of that definition. I kept trying to picture you acting like a complete dumb-ass, and that wasn't working. [:D]

So yeah, by that definition, you are absolutely one of the most unreasonable men around.

Please don't ever change that. [;)]

That sounds like normal sinks, what we have here too.
That's so weird. Learning some new things here. I thought the 3 greats, UK, America and Australia, should have technically the same kinds of sink. Guess not.

I can't even imagine what an American sink is like.

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: My New Dom Is Trying To Change My Eating Habits (3/4/2016 7:47:44 PM)

Here's a crazy idea...Just wash the fuckers when they are dirty.
No stacking issues then

This is a standard kitchen sink in America:

Though undermount sinks, like this one, have been popular for a while now:
http://counter-form.com/img/undermount2.jpg

I've currently got an undermount like that, it's better than the top mounted because you at least have some drainage to the sink but it still sucks compared to the sinks with built in drain boards I'm used to from Europe. When I'm pouring my new concrete countertops, I'll be adding in a built in drain board on either side.

I can't imagine working with either sinks. I definitely love sinks with the way awareness says, long metal platform on both sides. Or either, my own sink is a one hell of a super giant long and deep sink. I have a divider that can make it like the two sink thingy but it's an add on, if I need it, then I use it.. I wanted that flexibility. I have an in built drying rack, above my sink anyway, so clean wet dishes can easily accessible go straight on the drying rack above the sink. Anyway, I designed my own kitchen, so it's just done where washing dishes is a breeze.

Like I can't imagine washing a giant chinese frying wok in those sinks in those pictures, it's too small!
