aa -> Online virtual life and BDSM (7/19/2006 10:06:32 PM)

I was wondering if any one knows about Second Life. It is an online game which lets participants to live in a virtual world.   To day I found the game on the web and I was thinking if any one has any experience about any BDSM activity in this game. I know there is an area in the game which called SIM and it is about adult materials like nudity, porn and…   I guess these kinds of games are good opportunity to drive a virtual life base on S/M relation.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (7/19/2006 10:34:49 PM)

My partners former roommates do kinky and gorean type stuff in their second life all the time.

bandit25 -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (7/20/2006 3:00:49 AM)

I hadn't heard of it before.

wandering4u -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (7/20/2006 3:29:16 AM)

Having only discovered Second Life in the last 5 weeks I have to say it again - SECOND LIFE = CRACK!

It's all consuming and insane and I love it.  I want to pack all my RL stuff up and go live on my private island sim forever.

Two thumbs up!

velvetears -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 10:32:30 AM)

i hear its addicting :-)  i tried to sign on after registering but i need a larger video card to be able to use it. A friend of mine set up camp there and she loves it. You can have a virtual job there, buy land, build houses, go to the mall and buy outfits, they have bdsm areas as well as gorean - in fact in the gorean areas you can be captured lol.

bayboundse -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 10:35:04 AM)

Sounds interesting is it pay to play?

Trampler -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 10:40:25 AM)

When I get my own computer and a better job, I will probably be spending a fair amount of my time there.

slaveluci -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 11:17:45 AM)

Some of the things I like most about SL are:

1) Content is 100% user created.  If you can think it you can build it.
2) Linden Labs (the owners) give full Intellectual Property Rights to the creator - if you build it it belongs to you and you can do whatever you want with it - which includes selling it if you want to.
3)  There's so much more than just shopping and gor (and I was surprised at the level of disregard goreans have in the eyes of the general population there - not bdsmers, just goreans).  I like to go to the racetrack with my cars and motorcycles early in the morning when the lag is low.  The car is also a hovercraft, flies and has shields and weapons.  I also drive them on the ocean floor of my sim when I'm too lazy to go to the track.  I participate in two medieval/ fantasy roleplay sims in which I am a dragon (and have my personally modified, one of a kind, dragon avator for same), there are RP sims for goreans, cyberpunks, fantasy (elves, drows, faes, knights, ladies, yada yada), war & weapons whores, and just about anything else you can imagine.
4)  Guys who can't dance a step love to go ballroom dancing in SL.  All they have to do is buy a tux (to the tune of about 1.50) and click a pose ball.  I'm sure you can find a freebie tux if you look around (try Yadni's).  It's gonna put arthur murray out of business and makes many ladies looking for that kind of romance very happy.
5)  The sex.  Interactive, responsive sex (when properly equipped).  It's insane the sex on this game.  There are animations, pose balls, scripted furniture, you name it - and pretty much everyone is screwing everyone else.  Can't get much safer sex than this.  (PS - Don't assume walking up to a stranger and saying "let's fuck" is going to get you anything but "orbited" into outter space so you have to restart your system.  Common courtesy still applies!)
6)  It has it's own very real market and economy.  The value of the Linden (the in world currency) fluctuates, there is a market to buy and sell lindens that works much like the stock market, there is real estate, commercial/ retail enterprises, entertainment industry, sex industry, anything you'd find in RL and many things you won't.  You can buy, own and sell your property (real estate or creations) and you can make and spend money there as you like - or you can play without ever spending a penny.

Be forewarned - you may go into it thinking you'll never spend money, but once there your feelings will change.  You'll want to look more realistic like everyone else (who paid for skins and shapes and clothes and toys).  You'll want to get rid of the stick-like stock animations and put on a sexy walk or three, you'll see a dress that flows in the wind and want one (yes, SL has an environment that includes sunrises, sunsets and wind).  Your hair will drive you crazy and you'll want some that flows or spikes.  You'll want jewelry that "blings" (occasional light flashes) when you walk.  You'll get tired of being human and want to try out that hedgehog avatar that rolls everywhere like Sonic, or you'll want to become a dragon and fly into the air spitting fire and destroying targets.  Someone will push you into orbit (although it's against TOS) and you'll want a shield to protect you from it happening again.  You'll see a nuclear war head you just have to have or want to leave a poof of butterflies behind when you teleport away.  My  neighbor built a volcano on his island that erupts every 10 minutes - it not only shoots fireballs but also easter island totum heads that land on surrounding islands and then skip across the island into the sea (you can ride them, if you like).

Everyone logs into SL saying they aren't going to spend money.  After a month everyone says "I can't believe the money I've spent here in the last month."

Consider yourself warned.

SoftKajira -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 1:04:42 PM)

LOL yeah.. i LOVE sl.. it rocks

velvetears -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 1:13:06 PM)

MizSuz, you've been bitten bad [:D]  my friend talks about SL all the time, and as much as i wanna go i am hesitant because i just can't devote that much time and i know i will be wanting to - so i will be torn lol.  Also to clarify when you say money - you mean virtual money not real money althugh thats an option as well from what i hear and my friend said you don't have to spend a lot - i think well under 100 a month - she has a wardrobe and shoes to put Amelda to shame lol.....and she has a job where she has to show up online at a certain time each day to make money - so to answer you babyboundse you can spend money and get better stuff or you can enter and play not spending a dime.  Like MizSuz says though - you're prolly going to wanna look as good as the others and be able to do the actions others can do - i think those pose balls cost don't they?

StellaByStarlite -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/2/2007 2:04:22 PM)

Why would you want to? Get out and live life.

CinatasForums -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/3/2007 6:42:14 AM)

Its just like any other online game, you need to be able to see it as a recreational device and no live there 24/7.  I found it to be rather poorly programmed.  The rendering engine was bass ackwards and the network programming was poorly done.  I was on it for a bit and met some nice people on there.  If you are a sub to females being either male or female check out "House of X" Personally I also found it fun when I could make things and sell them to people.  I wrote code like I do in real life and sold it on there.  The scripting language in there is very similar to other programming languages such as C/C++.  Personally though I would never spend a r/l dime on a game like that, WOW(World of Warcraft)  is much more addicting and honestly much better programmed, the Lindens made an effort when they tried to make the source code open source.  Well anyway sorry about my rant, yes you can spend real money in there and do quite alot with it, but imo, just take 30 minutes and learn to use the system and create whatever you want, not only is it a hell of alot cheaper as I found many things in there to be exhorbitently priced but then if someone likes it you can sell it to them for alot of money.  Hell I edited a script and changed about 5 lines to make it better and someone paided me 500L for doing practically nothing, and besides its a computer/technological society everyone should learn some aspect of programming :)

SirDominic -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/3/2007 10:31:11 AM)

I agree with Kalbar. These online games, be it Everquest, The Sims or this one are all considered harmless fun. I couldn't disagree more. People really do devote every waking minute on these things. Their lives are not what they want, so instead of going out and bettering their life, they retreat into a fantasy one where they can play out what they want and never have to risk anything.

This is not living, it is pseudo-living. The more you are hooked on these games, the more you need to get away from them.

Namaste, Sir Dominic

yenlui -> RE: Online virtual life and BDSM (5/3/2007 2:03:35 PM)

Talk about generalisation, SirDominic. For most players, it really is harmeless fun. Just because some do devote all time on something, doesn't mean it's dangerous. Those people would devote all time on something anyway, it's just happens to be a game.

Also to clarify when you say money - you mean virtual money not real money althugh thats an option as well from what i hear and my friend said you don't have to spend a lot

You purchase things with a currency called "Lindens" which you either earn (as you've suggested - with an inworld job or "camping") or you purchase them using real world dollars.  You can purchase them from Linden Labs themself or you can joing SLEXCHANGE (dot) com and get a bit better exchange rate.

I WISH the money i've spent in the last month was play money.  I'm currently building a shopping mall in a zen garden style and hope that folks will want to come and spend time just hanging out there, which will be good for the vendors that rent space in the mall to sell their wares.  I suppose my head will be down for a couple of weeks while I get the place built.

If you do decide to come in world hit me up and I'll show ya around a bit.

Be well.
