The moderators do not read the forums.
They (generally) respond to tickets.

i wasnt expecting the moderators to read the forum and get back to me, I was asking the forum users how to go about contacting them and/or the owner directly.

often they do but sometimes they don't respond to tickets---and they have yet to actually acknowledge, let alone even address, any of the questions I ask when I do report a post.

bounty44 No-one really knows. Administrative Announcements has been quiet for a very, very long time.
is it the fact some people on some threads completely ignore the topic and hurl insults and names at each other that is bothering you the most on here at the moment?
or do you have a rather long list for site improvements - most of us do,

I saw a few threads vanish this year but they were usually introduction threads. But there will be someone(s) in the background ensuring that all dubious, illegal content, does not gain a foothold. And that will be the primary focus, not the scammers, sock accounts, the vitriol of some answers on some threads, and all those nicked pictures. I did see one mod 4-8 weeks ago on here and the forums but I haven't seen him of late.

Actually thick skinned healty elephants are neither preditor nor prey.

I don't know how many moderators we have now; it seems like it might be just one.
If that is so it is my best guess that s/he would not have time to answer every ticket's queries personally and would only act on the ticket.

I stand corrected. You are absolutely right. Thank you for this correction and better definition. Boom.

If there is only one, they are definatly going to be overworked.

But then, the question is: how do you attract people to work (for free) for a website whose reputation has long been in the toilet and it appears as though the website is doing everything it can to cut costs (i.e.; it's circling the bowl)?

Part of the reason for the current reputation is problems like this.
They may have dug themselves a hole they can't get out of.

When I first joined this site ('06), the reputation already seemed to be running 50-50 (at least from the people I knew).

I wasn't here two weeks and I understood why. It was during the reign of terror (a moderator that was definitely friendly to the C³).

No, the trouble here is: for too long, this has been seen as the "private playground" of a select few and the people of whom they approve. The half of the people that warned/tried to dissuade me from this site had told me about that. You and I (and a few others) are just stubborn enough not to let the bastards grind us down.

What ? You think I am syubborn?
Me?
That is disapointing, I am not stubborn, I am strong willed.

those are good questions, and while I do indeed have lots of thoughts that could lead to suggestions as to how to make the place better, both on the forum side and the profile side, my main issue right now is the incessant personal insulting and harassing that a couple of the users are engaging in. peek back a few pages at a small collection of them I posted to see what I mean.

im here for conversation about things that matter to me and others, not juvenile insults devoid of substances, nor addled brain vulgarities. its contrary to the purpose of the forums, and destructive to its ends.

bamad...for people that amuse themselves here. SO WHAT.

IF THE HEAT IN THE KITCHEN ETC.

this is so not an apt analogy, but maybe a thoughtful look at it will prove instructive.

the idea of "if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" implies a criticism of someone working in the kitchen that cannot tolerate all the things that come part and parcel in the environment of the kitchen.

people calling others "a leprous whore" or "a special kind of retard protected by the government" isn't an acceptable part of the conversation process any more than is a monkey coming into the kitchen when youre coooking and flinging poo.

objecting to it, especially when its against the rules, cannot be washed away with the "kitchen/heat" sentiment.

that helps to explain why people like mnottertail and Thompson are allowed to stay.

I still don't think this shit is the conspiracy you all believe it is. And even if it were? What would it matter? Y'all take this shit so personally. You don't even know these folks in real life. No one has ever had a productive convo about their political differences on the Internet.

Give it up and admit y'all just wanna hurl insults and I think it'll be a lot more fun
